All connected with the Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League were deeply saddened to learn yesterday of the passing of 'Mr Whitley Hall', Steve Fletcher, after a long illness.
Steve was last year honoured with induction into the YCSPL 'Hall of Fame', and won the inaugural LV=Insurance 'Pride of Cricket award, in recognition of over 50 years' service to the Whitley Hall CC and South Yorkshire cricket in general.
Over the years, Steve, who had held every possible position at the club, became a familiar, cheerful and welcoming face at Baxter Field. He was a dedicated 'one-club man' of a kind now becoming increasingly rare, and will be sorely missed. Steve is survived by his wife Denise and son Alex.
