Officials’ survey

When the players’ survey was published, we received requests for a survey to obtain views from scorers and umpires. This has now been produced and published. It can be accessed at officials survey. The survey will be open until Friday 19 August.

Player survey

The survey is now closed and the main initial findings are published on the League website. The next steps are to analyse all the comments made, identify actions to be taken, and formulate proposals for consideration at the AGM. The Premier Section captains’ meeting will be part of this process. We will continue to keep you fully informed.

Premier Section captains’ meeting

There will be a Premier Section captains’ meeting on Wednesday 10 August. This is to discuss the findings from the player survey, and to seek views from captains about the way forward on some of the key issues. The meeting will be held in the tea room at the Al-Murad Stadium, Elsecar CC at 7.30pm. If your captain cannot attend, please arrange for a senior player from your team to attend in his place.

Pride of Cricket awards

The Cricketer Magazine are currently working with LV= Insurance on this year’s Pride of Cricket Awards, which celebrates the amazing and often unsung work that goes on up and down the country in clubs, villages and schools – the exceptional efforts of members of the cricket community in the UK, from schoolchildren to professionals, club groundsmen to social media creatives.

They are looking for nominations across six categories for the 2022 awards – Club Hero, Young Hero, Fundraising Hero, Community Hero and Media Hero, as well as the overall Pride of Cricket Award recognising the lifetime contribution of an individual to the game of cricket, won last year by our own Steve Fletcher of Whitley Hall CC. The winner of each category will receive a pair of tickets to next year’s Ashes.

Nominations can be made here – entries may be made until midday on September 1st.

Safeguarding

If any club or match official has any safeguarding issues, including reports of incidents or requests for advice, these should be directed to Lindsay Pepper at safeguarding.manager@ycspl.co.uk until further notice.

T20 Blast area finals

We congratulate Doncaster Town on topping the T20 Blast Group Stage table, and so becoming the YCSPL representatives in the ECB Vitality T20 Blast area finals at Wollaton CC in Nottinghamshire on Sunday 7 August. Doncaster will play Sleaford in the area semi-final, and we wish them the very best of luck.

Use of saliva

Please ensure that all your players are aware of Law 41.3, which specifies that saliva must not be used on the ball which also precludes fielders eating sugary sweets to alter their saliva to apply to the ball. Using saliva will be treated the same way as any other unfair methods of changing the condition of the ball.
