Clubs' bulletin no 1 - 6 January

Happy New Year

The YCSPL League Executive Board would like to wish all club players, officials and followers all the very best for 2023 and the new season ahead.

An Evening with Jeff Thompson

Length Does Matter, a cricket podcast hosted by club cricketer Jonny Hayes and Chris Rushworth (Durham CCC and Warwickshire CCC) are arranging a series of evening sessions with Jeff Thomson, the former Australia fast bowler. They are looking for clubs that would be interested in hosting a session, to include a pie & pea supper or similar, and which can be used as fund-raisers for your club. They will be the last shows that ‘Thommo’ will be performing in here in the UK, and will be recorded for the Podcast. The sessions will be in June or July this year, and if your club is interested in hosting one, please contact Jonny Hayes on 07368 361590

Scorers’ courses

There are Roadshows currently organised at Doncaster Town CC on Sunday 8 January, and at Whitley Hall CC on Sunday January 22. These are taster sessions that cover both book and electronic scoring. The sessions are free of charge and additional ones can also be arranged at your club. These are ideal for anyone is interested in scoring, especially juniors. Steve Ward has also arranged a Club Scorer course, which is a two-day course, and covers manual book-scoring – this will be at Whiston Parish Church CC over the weekend of 18 and 19 February. Steve has also arranged two separate courses to cover laptop scoring, on Saturday 4 February and Saturday 4 March, both at Whiston PCCC.

In the 2022 season, 84.94% of the games under the League’s banner were scored electronically, which is a fantastic achievement, but it is important that scorers understand the basics of scoring before they score electronically, hence the book-scoring courses. To book any of these courses, please click on the links above, or for the Whitley Hall course, please contact Steve Ward (07919 241148).
