Doncaster’s Joe Lumb win

We congratulate the Doncaster team that won the Yorkshire Joe Lumb competition for under 17s at Doncaster Town last Sunday. Having managed to qualify for the semi-finals despite three of their five group matches being abandoned, they beat the Nidderdale League by eight wickets in the semi-final, then beat the Halifax Junior League Representative XI in the final at Doncaster Town CC. Put in to bat, Doncaster reached 201 for 6 in 50 overs, Nathaniel Wilkes of Tickhill top-scoring with 65. In reply, Halifax were 136 all out, Wilkes claiming three wickets to round off a fine personal performance – as well as winning the best bowling award throughout the competition. It is Doncaster’s first Joe Lumb competition win since being the first winners in 1961.
