Clubs' bulletin no 19 of 2022 - 9 September
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
All YCSPL games should go ahead as scheduled this weekend, but we would expect that, at all games, a minute’s silence, or other suitable tribute, should take place as a mark of respect for HM Queen Elizabeth II.
AGM reminder
All clubs are reminded of the arrangements for the League AGM. This will be held at the Phoenix Sports & Social Club, Pavilion Lane, Brinsworth, Rotherham S60 5PA, on Monday 14 November (7.00pm). Any proposals from clubs for changes to League rules or playing conditions, or nominations for board or committee positions, must be received by the LEB secretary, Graham Swallow, by Friday 29 September, in accordance with paragraph 17 of the League constitution. The agenda, accounts and details of all nominations and proposals will be circulated to clubs in week commencing 17 October.
Clubmark
Once the current round of Clubmark accreditations is finalised, 91% of YCSPL teams will belong to Clubmark-accredited clubs, which is a great achievement. Congratulations to all.
Garry Keyworth award for services to scoring
As the season draws to a close, the South Yorkshire branch of the ECB ACO are looking for nominations for this award.
• has your scorer served your club for many years?
• have they been scoring along time (not necessarily at your club)?
• what else about your scorer makes them special?
Nominations (with a short description why you think they deserve this award ) must be sent by email before 24th September 2022 to the branch secretary. The nominations will then be considered by the branch committee and the winner will be announced at the 2022 AGM.
Hall of Fame
A reminder that at the League presentation dinner in November, we would like to induct more members into our League Hall of Fame. Is there anyone at your club who has given exceptional service to the club or to South Yorkshire cricket in general over a number of years, and who you think deserves to be in our Hall of Fame? If so, please drop an email with details of the person and what they have done to Roger Pugh by the end of September.
Play-Cricket
A number of our clubs are showing incorrect or incomplete information in the ‘about us’ sections of their Play-Cricket sites, in particular around club officials. These need to be brought up-to-date by 31 October – please ensure that this information is checked and corrected where necessary. Please also ensure that your club secretary and treasurer have admin rights on P-C and check the play-cricket account regularly – this is important because we use P-C for many administrative tasks including cricket ball orders, presentation dinner payments, subscriptions and fines.
Promotion and relegation
The relegation of South Kirkby Colliery in Division 1 was confirmed last weekend, and under the rules of the Yorkshire Cricket pyramid system they will return to the Pontefract & District Cricket League in 2023 season. We wish them well for the future.
As a result of this, without positive adjustment to the promotion and relegation criteria, we would be left with 11 teams in Division 2 for the 2023 season. The Senior Section committee has therefore agreed the following;
• the tenth-placed teams in Divisions 2 and 3 will no longer be relegated
• the third-placed teams in Divisions 5 and 6 will now be promoted
• the ninth-placed teams in Divisions 6 and 7 will no longer be relegated
This will leave all divisions from the Premier Division to Division 6 inclusive with 12 teams each, and Divisions 7 to 9 with 11 teams each (subject to any winter withdrawals).
Yorkshire Premier Leagues championship play-offs
Our League champions, Appleby Frodingham will again be representing the League in the play-offs on Saturday. They will be at home to North Yorkshire & South Durham League champions Middlesbrough. The game at Brumby Hall will start at 11.00am, and we wish the Steelmen all the very best of luck!
