2022 YCSPL fixtures

The full fixture list for the 2022 YCSPL season will be released at 6pm today. 

 

The opening day of the season is Saturday 16 April, when Premier Division champions Appleby Frodingham will open their defence of their title at home to Barnsley Woolley Miners. Cleethorpes, on their return to Premier League cricket, face a tough trip to last season’s third-placed side, Treeton; whilst fellow returnees Whiston Parish Church are at home to a Cawthorne side that struggled against relegation last year, despite having league-record run-scorer Taruwar Kohli in their ranks. 

 

In the Championship Division, promotees Green Moor and Shiregreen are at home to last season’s third-placed side, Houghton Main, and last season's strugglers Sprotbrough respectively; whilst relegated Hallam visit Barnsley 2nds and Wickersley Old Village go to Wath. Two of Division 1’s promoted sides, Coal Aston and Doncaster 2nds, are at home – Coal Aston to relegated Warmsworth and Doncaster to Rotherham; whilst fellow-promotees Sheffield Collegiate 3rds visit Wakefield Thornes 2nds – the Abbeydale club mow having sides in all three top divisions. 

 

In Division 2, new clubs Ackworth and Hatfield Town are at home to Monk Bretton, who narrowly missed out on promotion last year, and Aston Hall 2nds; whilst promoted Penistone go to Norton Woodseats and Caribbean Sports are at home to Thorpe Hesley & High Green. Division 3’s promoted sides, Parkhead and Bradfield, have home games against Tickhill 2nds and Kexborough respectively. 

 

Division 4’s newly-promoted clubs Handsworth and Whiston Forge both face away trips, to relegated clubs Rockingham 2nds and Maltby respectively; whilst new club Stocksbridge face a similar challenge at Silkstone. In Division 5, newly-promoted Wombwell and Doncaster 3rds both face away trips, Wombwell to a Norton Oakes 2nds side that was reprieved from relegation, and Doncaster to nearby relegated Fishlake. New club Sheffield University Staff visit relegated Mexborough. 

 

In Division 6, both promoted clubs, Sprotborough 3rds and Whitley Hall 3rds, are at home on the first day, although the latter game is one of a small number that are subject to rearrangement. In Division 7, Frecheville 2nds, who were unlucky to miss out on promotion last year, start their campaign with a trip to Eden Grove, who will be keen to put last season’s difficulties behind them. Last season’s Division 8 champions start with a home game against Millhouses 2nds. 

 

As there are 11 clubs in Division 8, there is a ‘bye week’ for one club each weekend, and Doncaster Town 4ths take first turn. In Division 9, the ten teams play five of the others home and away, and play four three times to generate 22 fixtures each.
