Here is this week’s round-up of information for YCSPL clubs.

Covid postponements

‘Average points’ are being calculated on a ‘week by week’ basis and the tables being shown on both our website and the Play-Cricket website are correct. The calculation is simply ‘points earned divided by total games’ (ie, all except those cancelled due to Covid). We will continue to publish updated and correct league tables each week. The cancellation of a game will not result in a club, or their opponents, either improving or worsening their position.
Normally a club would be expected to cancel the game in the lowest division they play in. However, these are clearly not ‘normal times’ and we know that some clubs are quite deliberately keeping their different team squads apart, in order to mitigate against the spread of infection. For this reason, we are allowing clubs to cancel the fixture that is most affected by infections.
We made a deliberate decision at the outset that we would not be too prescriptive in our Covid rules. We did not want to box ourselves into specific courses of action, rather to have the flexibility to respond to the ever-changing situation. The rules therefore allow leeway.

Cup competitions update

Last Sunday in the T20 Blast, Appleby Frodingham finished top of the table, and will represent the League in the Area Finals at Lincoln Lindum CC this coming Sunday 1 August.
The YCSPL T20 Blast finals will be held at Town Fields, Doncaster Town CC on Monday 30th August, when Barnsley Woolley Miners will play Elsecar followed by Appleby Frodingham against Cawthorne, after which the two winners will contest the final.
Last Sunday, Barnsley Woolley Miners 3rds and Penistone won through to the final of the Presidents Trophy, which will be played at Upper Haugh CC on Sunday 22 August (12 noon start).
This Sunday, Aston Hall will play their National T20 Plate Group Area Final against Notts & Arnold of the Bassetlaw League (Green Lane, 12 noon). We wish Aston Hall CC the very best of luck for the game.
The two semi-finals in the Mick Savage Trophy will also be played (1.30pm starts) – these are:
Rotherham Town v Wakefield Thornes 2nds
Sheffield Collegiate 3rds v Norton Oakes

Disciplinary sanctions

The disciplinary committee have listened to comments from clubs and committee members and decided to review the current system. They have discussed the disciplinary penalty points in some detail and believe the award of three disciplinary penalty points for Level 1 ‘warnings’ to be disproportionate. From now on, Level 1 ‘warnings’ will attract one disciplinary penalty point per ‘warning’. The Disciplinary Committee considers this a fairer and more reasonable sanction. The change was approved by the League Executive Board on 26 July 2021.
The three disciplinary penalty points awarded for Level 1 ‘warnings’ during the current season have been adjusted, backdated to the beginning of this season, to reflect the above change in policy. For clarity, the current automatic suspended ban of two weeks that is issued in respect of Level 1 ‘warnings’ remains in place.

Hall of Fame. In a recent bulletin we invited nominations from our clubs for the league ‘Hall of Fame’. This is to recognise individuals’ outstanding contributions and service to clubs in our league. We intend to induct six new members to the Hall of Fame at the end-of-season function. If your club would like to nominate anyone, please contact Graham Swallow with brief details.

Important message on Safe Hands for Premier Section clubs. The Safe Hands Management System must be completed and signed off by the YCB by 15 September for all Premier Division teams for the 2022 season. Any failure will result the loss of Clubmark and Premier League status. If clubs have any queries on this please contact Steve Ward

Injury reporting on club Play-Cricket websites. Clubs have the facility to record injuries on their Play-Cricket website. We encourage clubs to use this facility, because in addition to being a good place to store and access this information in the future, it will be used by the ECB for the wider good of the game. To do this, go to Site Administration, <Day to Day, <Members, <Injury Reporting, <Add Incident.  Please note that it does not replace the need to maintain a copy of any injuries recorded in the club accident report book.

League under-23s v MCC XI. The League under 23s side will play an MCC XI at Abbeydale next Thursday – 11.30 start. All are welcome! The side is to be selected on Saturday – please send any nominations to Andrew Tipple by 9.00 am Saturday.

National Village knock-out. The organisers have decided that Houghton Main’s quarter-final against Cheshire & Clwyd regional champions Alvenley must be played, and this will now take place at Middlecliffe Road this coming Sunday 1 August. We wish Houghton Main CC all the very best for this game!

Registration of juniors. It has recently come to light that several teams have played juniors without them being registered to play in the League. Admin rule 26: Juniors explains how to register a junior player. This is particularly important in the event of injury, which has recently occurred. It is important that ALL players are registered correctly so they are covered by club insurance.
