Preview of games to be played on 18 & 19 June

 

Leaders Tickhill, with six wins in their last seven games, go to Cawthorne, who ended a six-match losing run when they beat Barnsley Woolley Miners last Saturday. Second-placed Appleby Frodingham, who suffered only their second defeat of the season last week, play a Lincolnshire derby against Cleethorpes at Chichester Road for the first time since 2018. Cleethorpes made a bright start to the season, but have now won only once in their last five; they will want to redress that, and put one over on their old rivals on their own ground. Wakefield Thornes are in third place, 12 points behind the leaders, and they are at home to Whitley Hall, who are just four points behind them in the top four. The teams have enjoyed differing fortunes in recent weeks – Whitley lost to Whiston last week after winning four on the trot, whilst Thornes win over Collegiate last Saturday ended a three-match losing run. At the other end of the table, there are only six points between bottom side Whiston Parish Church and Elsecar, who are the visitors to Church Fields tomorrow. Both sides have won only once in their last three, and both will want the points to try to pull out of the relegation zone. Doncaster Town moved up to fifth with their sixth win in seven last week, and they host Barnsley Woolley Miners, who seemed to have turned the corner before losing to Cawthorne last week, and will want to beat their old foes in order to keep away from the relegation zone. Finally, there is a mid-table clash between Treeton and Sheffield Collegiate at Washfield Road – a game that was won by the home side last year. 

 

 

Leaders Aston Hall make the trip up the M1 to play Barnsley Woolley Miners 2nds at Shaw Lane; form would point to an away win, but the home side are capable of making big scores. Similarly, Hallam, who remain joint-second despite losing two of their last three, host Green Moor, who are bottom of the table, but have some dangerous batsmen. Level with Hallam are Wickersley Old Village, and they appear to have the hardest task of the top three with a visit to Houghton Main; Wickersley have won their last six games, and Houghton Main were also going well until losing to Conisbrough last week. This should be a hard-fought encounter. Another good game is expected at Park Road, where Conisbrough host Wath. Neither side has been consistent this season, but both are capable of beating anyone in the division. Shiregreen have made a good start to the season and sit comfortably in the top half – they visit Rockingham Colliery, who ended a four-match losing run with a win at Sprotbrough last week. In the final game, two sides with only one win since the start of May, Sprotbrough and Sheffield Collegiate 2nds, meet at Abbeydale. 

 

 

Doncaster Town 2nds hit the 100-point mark last weekend, and they are sitting pretty at the top of Division 1. This weekend they face a tough test, however, with a visit to joint third-placed Upper Haugh. Sandwiched in between the two sides, in the second promotion place, Darfield will play away at bottom side Oughtibridge War Memorial, looking to strengthen their position. Both Upper Haugh and Whitley Hall 2nds are 14 points away from the promotion places, and the latter have a home game against Wakefield Thornes 2nds, just below them in fifth place. Elsewhere, second-bottom play third-bottom as Warmsworth play at Sheffield Collegiate 3rds, in a crucial relegation tussle. The other games of the weekend see mid-table battles as Rotherham Town host Sheffield United and South Kirkby entertain Coal Aston. 

 

 

It is second versus third in Division 2 this weekend as Treeton 2nds look to leapfrog Ackworth into the second promotion spot. Top side Wickersley Old Village 2nds will look to stay on their perch with a win at home to Norton Woodseats in fourth. At the opposite end of the table, the bottom two face each other, as Caribbean Sports travel to Monk Bretton in a crucial fixture. Thorpe Hesley & High Green, who occupy the final relegation spot, travel to mid-table Aston Hall 2nds. Elsewhere, Norton Oakes will entertain Hatfield Town, while Hallam 2nds travel to Penistone. 

 

 

Elsecar 2nds still, remarkably, hold a 100% record in Division 3, with their latest fixture coming at home to basement side, Whiston Parish Church 2nds. Tickhill 2nds are some 22 points behind the leaders in second place, and they play host to second-bottom Worsbrough Bridge. Parkhead are in third, two points behind Tickhill, and they visit mid-table Bradfield Village Fellowship. At the other end of the table, Oughtibridge 2nds are currently battling with Thorncliffe & Wentworth to keep out of the final relegation spot; they have a trip to play fourth-placed Sprotbrough 2nds, whilst Thorncliffe have an away game at Moor Road against Wath 2nds. Elsewhere, Kexborough will host Frecheville Community in mid-table. 

 

 

Millhouses Works are now twelve points clear at the top of Division 4; and they play host the Sheffield Collegiate 4ths. Below Millhouses, six clubs are separated by 12 points. Cawthorne 2nds lost last weekend to drop out of the promotion places and they will hope to bounce back this time around with a win at Higham, who are just six points below them in fifth. Stocksbridge currently occupy second place, and they travel to Handsworth JSC looking to consolidate their position. At the bottom, basement team Whiston Forge have a home game against Silkstone United in ninth, whilst second-bottom Shiregreen 2nds play seventh-placed Rockingham Colliery 2nds at home. Maltby Miners Welfare occupy the final spot, they will entertain Barnsley Woolley Miners 3rds, one of the six clubs battling for second place. 

 

 

Wombwell Main were another team to hit the 100-point mark at the top of Division 5 last weekend, and they have a trip to Darfield 2nds in mid-table. In second place, Upper Haugh 2nds also have an away trip as they go to Sandygate to play third-bottom Hallam 3rds; whilst third-placed Fishlake are at home to second-bottom Mexborough Athletic. Doncaster Town 3rds are just six points behind Fishlake and in fourth place, and they host Rotherham Town 2nds, one place and 18 points below them. Norton Oakes 2nds remain bottom and without a win, and they travel to Sheffield University Staff in ninth. Elsewhere, there is a mid-table clash between Coal Aston 2nds and Conisbrough 2nds at Stonelow. 

 

 

The top game in Division 6 comes at Bawtry Road, where leaders Sheffield United host second-placed Penistone 2nds in a fascinating top-of-the-table clash. Thorpe Hesley & High Green 2nds are level on points with Penistone and will hope to capitalise on the guaranteed dropping of points above them, by winning their home game with ninth-placed Handsworth 2nds. By coincidence, Penistone will face Handsworth on Sunday. Caribbean Sports 2nds and Barnsley Woolley Miners 4ths are well adrift of Handsworth in the bottom two places; Caribbean have a home game against Whitley Hall 3rds while Barnsley have the weekend off. Elsewhere, two fairly well-matched ties see Green Moor 2nds play host to Sprotbrough 3rds and Bradfield Village Fellowship 2nds travel to Wickersley Old Village 3rds. 

 

 

There is an interesting clash at the top of Division 7 tomorrow, as Brookhouse, who also still retain their 100% record, welcome third-placed Ackworth 2nds. Sandwiched in between the two, Higham 2nds have a trip to winless Thorncliffe & Wentworth 2nds. Mexborough Athletic 2nds have the chance to move out of the relegation places if they can win at home to Millhouses Works 2nds, who sit just two points ahead of them. The other two fixtures of the weekend will see Frecheville Community 2nds at home to Harley and Eden Grove Parklands away at Warmsworth 2nds. 

 

 

It is first versus third this weekend in Division 8, as Doncaster Town 4ths look to move closer to the promotion places with a win away at league leaders Hatfield Town 2nds. Meanwhile, second-placed Stocksbridge 2nds will entertain fifth-placed Houghton Main 2nds, who are by no means out of the promotion hunt. There is a battle of the bottom two, where Fishlake 2nds have have the chance to narrow the 14-point gap between themselves and Dearne, whom they will play at Goldthorpe. Two teams with different aims will meet at Worsbrough, where Scholes need the points to stay out of the relegation zone, and Worsbrough Bridge 2nds are looking to move into the promotion places. Elsewhere, Silkstone United 2nds will host Rockingham Colliery 3rds in a mid-table clash. 

 

 

First also play third in Division 9, where Whiston Forge 2nds travel to Adwick-le-Street, looking to keep a firm grasp on their place at the top. A loss will hand an opportunity to Upper Haugh 3rds, who sit eight points behind in second and host the winless Sheffield United 3rds. United's fellow strugglers, Eden Grove Parklands 2nds and Rockingham Colliery 4ths, both have home fixtures against two mid-table sides in Kexborough 2nds and Hampole & Skelbrooke respectively. On Sunday, Brookhouse 2nds will travel to Wombwell Main 2nds to wrap up the weekend’s fixtures.
