The Sheffield-based Weston Park Cancer Charity provides a range of free services, advice, therapies and support for people, to help them and their families live with cancer. They also raise funds to support pioneering research and clinical trials.

A few months ago, two stalwarts of the Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League, Graham Swallow and Terry Bentham, who themselves have suffered from cancer, decided to try and raise some funds for Weston Park. They hoped to raise £1,000 and are now delighted to confirm that, with the generous help of all those who contributed, they have recently handed a cheque for £1,100 to Darren Hayes, the Business Development Manager at Weston Park Cancer Charity.

Graham composed a 32-page booklet of Terry Bentham’s weekly blogs, which they sold for £5 per copy, in addition to which the pair organised a raffle. There are now only just a couple of the entertaining volumes left for purchase! On their fund-raising success, thanking all those who contributed, Graham said, “We could not have done this without your kindness and we are extremely grateful.”

Thankfully, Terry has now been given the all clear after his treatment, and is combining his work as a YCSPL League Ambassador with litter-picking in the area of his home and, of course, managing a few laps around various local cricket grounds! Graham also continues to provide invaluable voluntary service to the YCSPL as LEB and Senior Section secretary, and we are delighted to hear that his treatment is continuing to ‘keep things under control’.
