The Viking Cricket Cup programme last Sunday was badly hit by the weather, with play possible in only four of the day's eight second-round ties.
Where there was play, Callum Higgins (87), Kashif Naveed (78) and Tanzeel Ali (60) took Elsecar to an imposing 277-8 in their 40 overs against Scarborough. Rain brought a premature end to the home side's innings in the eleventh over at 91-4, giving Elsecar a 25-run win on the DLS method. The other two YCSPL sides in action did not enjoy similar success. Cup-holders Appleby Frodingham fielded a weakened side at Clifton Park, where York racked up an almost insurmountable 335-5, and, chasing a revised target of 312 in 36 overs, the Steelmen were bowled out for 180. Next door, Treeton were bowled out for 130 by Clifton Alliance, who then proceeded to a DLS revised target of 103 in 22 overs, with three overs and seven wickets to spare. Elsewhere, Sheriff Hutton Bridge comfortably beat Yorkshire Premier League champions Castleford.
Of the remaining second-round ties, Barnsley Woolley Miners v Whiston Parish Church will be played this Sunday, 12th June; Cawthorne v Woodhouse Grange and Sheffield Collegiate v Harrogate will be played on Sunday 19th June; and the Wakefield Thornes v Driffield game will be played on Sunday 3rd July.
The draw for quarter-final ties, to be played on Sunday 3rd July is:
Barnsley Woolley Miners or Whiston Parish Church v York
Clifton Alliance v Sheffield Collegiate or Harrogate
Sheriff Hutton Bridge v Elsecar
Wakefield Thornes or Driffield v Cawthorne or Woodhouse Grange (10th July)
Last Sunday also saw the second round of the Billy Oates Memorial Trophy. Thorpe Hesley & High Green 2nds beat Sprotbrough 3rds on a bowl-out, and Adwick-le-Street conceded against Upper Haugh 3rds. Mexborough Athletic 2nds had beaten Caribbean Sports 2nds on 22 May.
The revised quarter-final draw, with games to be played on Sunday 26 June, is:
Penistone 2nds v Upper Haugh 3rds
Stocksbridge 2nds v Ackworth 2nds
Thorpe Hesley & High Green v Doncaster Town 4ths
