Safeguarding
The Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adultsat all levels. We acknowledge our duty of care and ensure our safeguarding practices reflect both our statutory responsibilities and best practice in the game. Our policy, procedures and practice incorporate the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) requirements as documented in the game’s ‘Safe Hands’ Policy and Safeguarding Adults Policy.
We firmly believe that everyone involved has the right to enjoy the game in an environment safe from abuse and harm of any kind. We recognise that a positive cricket experience is essential to the success of the game, and we prioritise developing the right environment for all those involved ahead of individual and/or club performance.

Important information on the recent Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) changes
Change for Volunteers (Paid Applicants are Unaffected)
What has Changed?
The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) has updated the process for volunteers renewing their DBS certificates.
Previously, volunteers just needed to confirm annually to the ECB that they were still in their role, which would automatically renew their DBS certificate. The DBS would then send a separate email to confirm that no further action was needed.
Now, the DBS requires everyone to log into their Update Service account each year to renew their subscription. If this isn’t done, their account will lapse. If that happens, the ECB will fail the check, and the individual will need to apply for a new DBS certificate as the DBS doesn’t allow reinstating a lapsed subscription.
What is the ECB Doing to Help?
The ECB is working with their supplier, Atlantic Data, to understand the changes and reduce any impact. To help, they’ve put these actions in place:
All on-screen messages and email communications will be updated by 20 January to clearly explain the steps volunteers need to take to renew their DBS and Update Service subscription;
They’ll send reminder emails to anyone due for renewal within 30 days, outlining the new process;
They will share this information with the wider cricket network; and
They will reach out to individuals whose subscriptions have lapsed since 1 January to help them apply for a new DBS, reducing the need for local applications.
What Does an Individual Need to Do?
Respond to the ECB’s email 30 days before their renewal date:
Consent and confirm their role, club, and contact details; and
Look for an email from dbs@ecb.disclosures.co.uk, titled “ECB DBS Expiry - Important Message - Action Required”.
Log in and renew their Update Service subscription 30 days before their renewal:
Look for an email from donotreply@dbs.gov.uk, titled “FYI: Action required to renew your Update Service subscription”.
If you have any questions about an individual’s DBS status, contact the ECB Customer Support team via the HELPCENTRE
