The Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League is saddened to hear the news of the passing of Penistone Cricket Club stalwart Steve Reid, after a long illness. Steve was a great worker not only for the Penistone club, but for South Yorkshire cricket in general.
Steve was formerly a dedicated and inspirational chairman of Penistone CC; as club groundsman he worked tirelessly on the thankless task of getting the ground ready for the season and preparing pitches throughout the season; he was head coach at the club, qualified at ECB level 2, and played a massive role in helping young cricketers at the club on their journeys from All Stars through to the first team; and he was well-known to many across South Yorkshire as a popular member of the SYSCL umpires panel.
Amongst the myriad of achievements to which he had helped the club over in recent seasons were Clubmark accreditation; funding for a new outfield drainage system; updating the clubhouse, with a new kitchen; installing a new car park; and renewing most of its ground machinery.
His legacy is a club that is growing in strength from the foundations he helped build, and that now faces a bright future.
Steve Reid will be sorely missed by Penistone CC and all those who knew him. We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
