22 May - a preview

We can only hope that the current wet weather abates sufficiently to allow more cricket than the last two Saturdays, although some games are already in doubt as we write.
In the Premier Division, where two points separate the top four, two of these sides, Appleby Frodingham and Barnsley Woolley Miners, meet at Brumby Hall in the match-of-the-day. Joint-third Treeton travel to Cawthorne, who have only one win in their five games, despite boasting the division’s top run-scorer to date in Taruwar Kohli. Unbeaten joint-leaders Wakefield Thornes are scheduled to visit the Burrows Oval to play Wickersley, with two wins and two defeats in their five games so far. Hallam and Elsecar will hope for their first wins at home to Tickhill and at Whitley Hall respectively.
In the Championship, free-scoring leaders Whiston Parish Church could extend their eight-point lead at the top with a win over Barnsley 2nds at Shaw Lane, but that will not be a foregone conclusion given the home side’s recent win over Cleethorpes. If Whiston slip up, second-placed Houghton Main could overhaul them with a win at Oughtibridge. Cleethorpes will be hoping that top wicket-taker Alex Osmond will continue his early season form and help them get their promotion bid back on track at Sprotbrough. Sheffield Collegiate 2nds, in fourth place, will fancy their chances at home to winless Conisbrough, whilst bottom side Rockingham Colliery will hope to get off the mark when they visit Aston Hall.
In Division 1, not a single game was completed last weekend in a complete washout. Top of the table Shiregreen face seventh-placed Whitley Hall 2nds, as they look to add to their unbeaten start. There is also an interesting clash at the top of the division as third-placed Upper Haugh play host to Hallam 2nds who lie in fifth place. Down at the bottom it is ninth versus eleventh as South Kirkby travel to Darfield looking for their first win of the season. Bottom side Aston Hall 2nds, also looking for their first win, face Treeton 2nds who lie in eigth position.
Division 2 leaders Doncaster Town 2nds travel to fourth-placed Coal Aston, hoping to keep up their unbeaten start to campaign. Joint-leaders Monk Bretton are also on the road travelling to early strugglers Thorncliffe, who have only completed one game so far this season. Monk Bretton are also hoping to stay unbeaten. Norton Oakes and Norton Woodseats look to pick up their first win of the season as they play Sheffield Collegiate 3rds and Frecheville Community, respectively. Other fixtures in the division include Elsecar 2nds playing host to Thorpe Hesley & High Green, which could see the away side put pressure on the two front runners with a win. Worsbrough Bridge are playing at home to Wickersley Old Village 2nds with both teams sitting comfortably in mid table for the time being.
Three teams have maintained unbeaten records in Division 3. Caribbean Sports face Wath 2nds, Kexborough face Barnsley Woolley Miners 3rds, and Penistone face Whiston Parish Church 2nds, all looking for their fourth wins of the season. Whiston host Penistone looking for their first win of the year in what could be one of their toughest games yet. The other team without a win in the division, Oughtibridge 2nds, face Silkstone United, looking to become the second team to defeat them this season. Game of the day could come with eighth playing ninth as Rockingham Colliery 2nds host Maltby Miners Welfare, with both teams looking for their second victories of the year.
In Division 4, with no games being completed since May 1st, hopefully we can start getting some results. There are two front runners in the division with Bradfield Village Fellowship and Sheffield Collegiate 4ths both making unbeaten starts to the season. Collegiate will host mid table Shiregreen 2nds whilst Bradfield have a bye week that Collegiate will be looking to take advantage of. Third placed Higham travel to Hallam 3rds with Higham batsmen Andrew Wood looking to add to the 244 runs he has made this season. Early strugglers Fishlake are looking to bounce back from 3 defeats as they are back in action after their bye week last weekend. They host Cawthorne 2nds on Saturday and Adwick-Le-Street on Sunday. Adwick-Le-Street are also in action on Saturday as they travel to mid-table Parkhead. Other games in the division include Millhouse Works home to Hampole & Skelbrooke and Mexborough Athletic taking on Barnsley Woolley Miners 4ths, who look to push up the table.
Only one team have won all their games in Division 5, Coal Aston 2nds, who travel to Handsworth Junior Sporting Club looking to continue their record. Top-of-the-table Norton Oakes 2nds play Penistone 2nds, who lie in fifth, looking to stay top after a rain interrupted weekend last time out, although Coal Aston do have a game in hand in second. Bottom team Rotherham 2nds host fourth-placed Upper Haugh 2nds looking for their first win to try and climb off the bottom. The only other team without a win, Conisbrough 2nds, host the team one place above them, Kilnhurst Colliery, as eleventh play tenth in an important clash.
In Division 6, Brookhouse look to build on their crushing victory last weekend against Wentworth as they play Green Moor Sports Club. Doncaster 3rds look to use close the gap on leaders Wombwell Main as they host bottom side Wentworth with three points separating the two sides with a game in hand. Wombwell Main play at home to fifth placed Handsworth Junior Sporting Club 2nds in which could be a tricky encounter for the hosts with Handsworth looking good with the bat early on last weekend. Third placed Wickersley Old Village 3rds looking to place pressure on the top two as they play Millhouses Works 2nds. Sheffield United 2nds play Thorncliffe 2nds with United looking to add to their two wins this season. Caribbean Sports 2nds have a no game this weekend.
One of the only results of last weekend was reached in Division 7, as Doncaster Town 4ths beat Scholes by 25 runs. Doncaster face Wath 3rds this weekend looking to carry on the momentum against the team starting the weekend at the bottom of the table. Scholes travel to Harley as twelfth plays eleventh. There are three unbeaten teams in the division. Top of the table Whitley Hall 3rds do not play, giving Frecheville Community 2nds and Sprotbrough 3rds a chance to leapfrog them with their games in hand. Second-placed Frecheville travel to eighth-placed Dearne while third-placed Sprotbrough host sixth-placed Silkstone United 2nds.
Like many other divisions, two teams are getting away at the top of Division 8. Monk Bretton 2nds and Mexborough Athletic are first and second respectively with a three points difference and Mexborough having a game in hand. This weekend, Monk Bretton look to extend their lead as they host third placed Brookhouse 2nds in a tough fixture for both sides. Mexborough are also playing at home to Eden Grove Parklands 2nds. Elsewhere in the division, Strugglers Brodsworth Main 3rds who are on -3 points after conceding three games, play at home to Wombwell Main 2nds who have suffered due to called off games. Second bottom Adwick-Le Street 2nds play Rockingham Colliery 3rds as they look to add to their one game that they have played this season. Whereas Rockingham Colliery 4ths are on the road to Whiston Forge 2nds. Upper Haugh 3rds look to add to their two wins from four games as they play host to Sheffield United 3rds. Kexborough 2nds have a weekend off.
