Welcome to Ahmad Shaaf Khan

The YCSPL look forward to welcoming Ahmad Shaaf Khan, a highly-rated young Australian umpire who will be with us for just over two and half months to gain experience of umpiring in an English Premier League.
Ahmad (26) was born in Pakistan but moved to Perth in Australia in 2011 as a high-school student. He graduated from university with a Bachelor of Business Management degree, and currently works for Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA), administering their Premier Cricket competition and providing operational support at all levels of professional cricket, from domestic to international matches and ICC events in Perth.
Ahmad has been umpiring for about 12 years now, seven of which have been at the Senior Premier Cricket level in Western Australia. In the 2023-24 season, he was selected for the State Umpire Panel in Western Australia, and has since umpired women’s domestic cricket, national age group championships, the Women's Big Bash League (on-field) and the Big Bash League as fourth umpire.
Cricket is Ahmad’s main interest, and he runs one of the biggest multicultural community cricket competitions in Perth, designed to provide cricketing opportunities during the winter months as well as acting as a bridge to connect the newly-arriving migrants and students into the Perth community as a whole.
Outside cricket, Ahmad played a bit of football when growing up – and used to follow a well-known English team from afar – we won’t prejudice anyone’s views by mentioning which! He is interested in current affairs and news around the world, follows global financial and trade markets, even dabbling a bit in stock-trading for enjoyment. A bit of a ‘foodie’, he likes to try different cuisines with family & friends, and enjoys a bit of TV and the occasional movie.
He arrived in London on 21st May, will arrive in Sheffield tomorrow, and will be in the UK until 7th August. During his stay, Ahmad will be looking for any and all opportunities to umpire as much cricket as possible, and hopes to have some time to do some of the usual tourism activities here and there along the way.
We hope that Ahmad will enjoy his stay, that he might bring a bit of Aussie-type weather with him, and that he has some good cricket to umpire in the YCSPL.
