Rain spoiled the Saturday league programme, most games starting on time, but with many abandoned after tea.

Premier Division

Sheffield Collegiate’s game against Appleby Frodingham at Brumby Hall was the only game in the division to beat the weather. Put in to bat, the visitors made 262-5, thanks chiefly to 115 off 97 balls from Sheryaar Ali. Henry Eldred took 4-46 when the hosts replied, and they were all out for 189, Paras Ratnaparkehe contributing 55. Collegiate now lead the table by eight points. Their nearest challengers, Tickhill, were frustrated by the weather when their game was abandoned when they were 35-1 in the tenth over in reply to Wickersley Old Village’s 240-8 at the Brookfield Oval. Earlier, Mike Jepps followed up his hundred last week with 82 against his old club, and Ibrahim Safi made 63. Third-placed Wakefield Thornes made 252-8 against Whiston Parish Church at Field Lane, Safiullah Abrar (89) and James Rhodes (73) putting on 119 for the first wicket, then Kasim Hassan took 4-43 when the hosts lost seven wickets for 41 runs after reaching 204-1. The visitors were 25-1 in reply when the rain came. Champions Cleethorpes bowled Sprotbrough out for 164 after putting them in to bat at Melton Road, Josh Knapton taking 4-43, and Louis Richardson top-scored with 61 for the hosts, but rain prevented the visitors from starting their reply. Taylor Fell (55) and Harsha Rajapaksha (68) added 126 for Doncaster Town’s fourth wicket in their 233-9 against Hallam at Crimicar before the game was abandoned. Jordan Bethell’s 67 was the highlight of Whitley Hall’s 248-9 at home to Cawthorne, who were 25-1 in reply when that game too was abandoned.

Championship Division

The top two clubs both beat the weather; Ackworth securing a 53-run DLS win over Oughtibridge War Memorial after putting their visitors in to bat and bowling them out for 148, skipper Luke Townsend taking 4-38. The hosts were 53 ahead of the par score at 106-2 after 23 overs when rain stopped play. Curtley Louw took 4-23 to help Elsecar bowl Rockingham Colliery out for 81 after they were put in to bat at Hoyland Common, and the visitors raced to an eight-wicket win in the 14th over. They are now two points behind Ackworth and eight ahead of third-placed Barnsley Woolley Miners, for whom Ali Zaryab made 97 out of their 199 all out after they were asked to bat first by Upper Haugh at Wentworth Road. Samuel Thompson took 5-36 for the hosts as Barnsley lost their last four wickets for 23 runs, but rain prevented any play after tea. It was a similar story at Hatfield House Lane, where Manavkumar Dave took 6-58 to help Tickhill 2nds bowl Shiregreen out for 201 before the game was abandoned. Shafiullah Shinwari (70) and Daniel Craig (59) added 123 for Sheffield Collegiate 2nds’ seventh wicket to help them recover from 58-6 and reach 210-9 against Coal Aston at Abbeydale. The visitors were 70-1 in the 18th over in reply when the game was washed out. An unbeaten 46 from Adam Clarke lifted Aston Hall from 91-8 to 152-9 away to Doncaster Town 2nds, but his efforts were in vain as the game was abandoned after tea.

Division 1

Treeton and Warmsworth continue to lead the division, but the weather denied either the chance to strengthen their position. Joe Stickland’s 64 helped Treeton to 223 all out when his side were asked to bat first by Monk Bretton at the Castle Ground, and the hosts were 60-4 when the game was abandoned. Limar Pierce was the top scorer with 51 in Warmsworth’s 238-7 away to Conisbrough, and the hosts were 16-4 in reply when the rain came to their rescue. Wath were one of just two sides in the division to achieve a positive result; after bowling Wickersley Old Village 2nds out for 103 at Northfield Road they coasted to an eight-wicket win in 15 overs. Whitley Hall 2nds made very short work of Cawthorne 2nds at Dark Lane. After Jack Myers had taken 4-18 when they bowled their hosts out for 54, Whitley completed a nine-wicket win in the 11th over. Shahab Khan made 78 in Houghton Main’s 218 all out after they were put in to bat at home to West Bretton, for whom Callum Bailey took 4-60, but the game was then abandoned.
