Round-up of league & cup games played on 4 & 5 July

With the top three sides in the Premier Division all winning, there was no change at the top, but Ackworth’s position was strengthened at the top of the Championship Division following Barnsley’s defeat. Leaders Warmsworth and Sheffield Collegiate 3rds were both beaten in Divisions 1 and 2 respectively. Sheffield Centralians, Waverley 2nds and Sheffield University Staff 2nds all lead their divisions by 30 points or more. 

 

 

Leaders Sheffield Collegiate were grateful to opener Jack Timby for his unbeaten 109 off 144 balls that, with the support of Henry Eldred, helped them recover from 126-7 to 207-7 after they were put in to bat away to Sprotbrough, for whom Parteek Khasa took 6-29; the home side gave a good account of themselves throughout, but fell 32 short on 175-9 in reply. Second-placed Cleethorpes put Hallam in to bat at Chichester Road, and Tom Hunt’s 5-29 helped bowl them out for 135, William Coates being last out for 52; the Meggies then completed a six-wicket win in the 31st over. It was a similar story at Dark Lane, where Ikramullah Naseri took 4-29 when Cawthorne bowled Whiston Parish Church out for 140; opener Ben Simpson then made 74 in the hosts’ six-wicket win. Whitley Hall climbed back into the top four after Neil Longhurst (103 off 103 balls) was the main contributor to their 239 all out at home to Wickersley Old Village, for whom Sam Drabble and Hamzah Younis took four wickets apiece; in their reply, forties from Mike Jepps, Jordan Lowe and Younis kept the visitors in contention, but they fell agonisingly seven runs short on 228-8. Harsha Rajapaksha, promoted to open the innings by Doncaster Town, responded with 103 off 123 balls in their 194 all out against Wakefield Thornes at Field Lane; in reply the home side were all out for 130 and lost by 58 runs on the DLS method after a rain interruption. Skipper Jim Morgan (58) and Ronan Herrman (96) were the main contributors to Tickhill’s 266-8 after they were asked to bat first by Appleby Frodingham at the Brookfield Oval; but visiting skipper Alex Grimes then led his side to a five-wicket win with 112 off 137 balls. 

 

 

Dave Rodgers (106 off 122 balls) and Regan Sheahan (62) put on 136 in good time for Coal Aston’s second wicket at home to leaders Ackworth, after which Luke Townsend took four wickets to bring his side back into the game, and the home side were restricted to 236-9; Townsend then hit 114 off 115 balls at the top of the order, adding 104 for the third wicket with Jerome Bossr, and Ackworth completed a four-wicket win in the 41st over. Skipper Adam Birkinshaw (61) led a Sheffield Collegiate 2nds recovery from 93-5 to 195 all out at home to second-placed Barnsley Woolley Miners, for whom Zarmash Tarakhil took 4-49; prolific opener Ali Zaryab then made 102 off 119 balls when the visitors replied, but after the departure of skipper Boeta Beukes, he lacked support, and Barnsley were all out for 180, Tate Miller taking 4-48. Musa Altaf’s 4-24 helped Elsecar bowl Doncaster Town 2nds out for 116 at the Spinks ground after they were put in to bat; and the visitors then cruised to a five-wicket win. Muhammad Khan’s 89 was the backbone of Aston Hall’s 231-8 at home to Tickhill 2nds, and he then completed a match-winning performance with 4-45 when the visitors were bowled out for 187 in reply, Hernus Marais top-scoring with 53. Haris Khan made 81 out of Shiregreen’s 98-3 before Muhammad Khan (123 not out off 98 balls) and Hedar Rasool (50 not out) put together an unbroken stand of 182 for the fifth wicket to take them to 293-4; opener Vikas Dixit made 50 when Oughtibridge War Memorial replied, but Muhammad Rameez took 6-40 and they were all out for 114. Habil Arshad took 6-61 when Upper Haugh bowled Rockingham Colliery out for 168 after being asked to bat first at Hoyland Common, whilst Ben Dalton made 73 for the hosts; the visitors then completed a five-wicket win in the 46th over. 

 

 

Leaders Warmsworth lost their unbeaten record to second-placed Wath at Common Lane, and their lead at the top is cut to two points. After they were put in to bat and lost two early wickets, Syed Shah (173 off 158 balls) and Samuel Bowden put on 142 for the third wicket in the visitors’ 275-6; six bowlers then took wickets when the home side were all out for 174 in reply. Third-placed Conisbrough put West Bretton in to bat at Park Road and had them in trouble at 113-9, with six wickets for Scott Lowe (6-78), before number nine Cameran Brampton (59) lifted them to 170 all out; the home side were then bowled out for 92 in reply. Skipper Chris Cobb (78) and Charlie Harrison (51 not out) were the main contributors to Wickersley Old Village 2nds’ 268-7 against Whitley Hall 2nds at the Beerpig Oval; Chris Verity then made 55 and Sam Woodcock 66, but the visitors were all out 13 short on 255, Harrison completing a fine game with 4-42. Flynn Walker (6-19) and Amir Shahzad (4-45) did the damage when Treeton bowled Cawthorne 2nds out for 95 at Northfield Lane; Gareth Davis then made 59 when the home side completed an eight-wicket win in the 18th over. Jason Mills took 4-18 when Frickley Colliery bowled Monk Bretton out for 176 at the Castle Ground, and Jordan Bowers then made an unbeaten 82 to help his side to a five-wicket win. Harry Pollard (89) and Joe Milner (86) put on 175 for Parkhead’s first wicket against Houghton Main in their formidable 307-7 at Middlecliffe Road, Teriq Worrell taking 6-89 for the home side; Asim Javed made 86 when Houghton replied, but Marcus Ardley took 4-52 and they were all out for 226. 

 

 

The are new leaders in the division after Norton Oakes took full advantage of a slip up by overnight leaders Collegiate. Oakes were bowled out for a modest 170 by Elsecar 2nds at the Al-Murad Stadium, Salman Iqbal taking 4-58; then Callum East (4-26) and Dan Baldwin (5-51) bowled the hosts out for 106 in reply. Sheffield Collegiate 3rds were asked to bat first at Penistone and were bowled out for 173; Charlie Armitage then made 84 when the home side completed a six-wicket win in 30 overs. There were four wickets for Harry Spence when bottom side Hallam 2nds put promotion challengers Thorpe Hesley & High Green in to bat at Crimicar and bowled them out for 247; but the home side were then all out for 137 in reply. Aamir Ashfaque took 4-32 for Norton Woodseats when they bowled Barnsley Woolley Miners 2nds out for 168; then Ronald Richards-Cairns and David Armitage both scored 56 when they put on 131 for the fourth wicket together, and the visitors kept themselves in the promotion chase with a five-wicket win. Harley Cushan (109 off 108 balls) helped relegation-threatened Wakefield Thornes 2nds to a very competitive 232-7 against Hatfield Town after they were put in to bat at Carr Side Lane; but Alec Elliott (83) and Joshua Hartfield (51 not out) then led the home side to a seven-wicket win. Ben Hyman (60) and Stanley Stewart were the main contributors to Millhouses Works’ 248-9 after they were asked to bat first by second-bottom Aston Hall 2nds at Millhouses Park; Lee Stewart (4-19) and Stanley Stewart (4-40) then helped Millhouses bowl their visitors out for 137 in reply. 

 

 

It is a case of ‘as you were’ at the top of the division with the top four all winning. Forties from Zac Trower and skipper Eliot Tye helped Coal Aston 2nds to 247-7 against bottom side Wath 2nds at Moor Road; Shaun Trower then took 5-3 in 16 balls when the home side were dismissed for 82 in reply. Joal Wake (100 off 89 balls) was the main man for Frecheville Community in their 230-7 against Sheffield United at the Hobson Bowl; Thomas Duffield then took 4-33 when they bowled their visitors out for 141 in reply. Darfield made 266 all out against Upper Haugh 2nds at Wentworth Road, Josh Care making 76 and Brooklyn Whitmill 66; whilst Andy Judge took 6-69 for the hosts; Nathan Kitchen then took 6-36 and Upper Haugh were all out for 98 in reply. Brad Gledhill (57) and George Deegan (80) were the main contributors to Higham’s 245-6 at home to Sprotbrough 2nds; skipper Thomas Langley made 116 off 100 balls at the top of the order when the visitors replied, sharing in a stand of 118 for the third wicket with Rocco Cook (64), but Deegan proved the matchwinner win 5-17 and they fell 11 short on 234 all out. Richard Taylor (55) and Ryan Mann (51) helped Worsbrough Bridge post 202 all out at home to Rockingham Colliery 2nds, for whom Benjamin Shore took 4-30; in reply, James Armitage made 67 at the top of the order for the Colliery but they ended on 164-8 and lost ground on the leading four sides. There was a tight finish at Waterside Gardens, where Shiregreen 2nds got a much-needed win but worsened Oughtibridge War Memorial 2nds’ relegation worries. Danish Rasheed made an important 69 for the visitors in their 208 all out, Zayan Khan taking 4-41 for the hosts; then Rasheed was the chief destroyer with 4-39 when Oughtibridge replied, and they were all out just four runs short for 204, despite Zaheer Mirza’s 75. 

 

 

The real winners at the top were Whiston Forge, who took advantage of defeats for the two sides above them to move to the top. Owen Struggles (6-24) and Matthew Beevers (4-26) bowled Treeton 2nds out for 56 and set up an eight-wicket win for the home side at Guilthwaite Hill. Thorncliffe & Wentworth made 202-7 away to Ackworth 2nds, but the home side’s opener Dave Harris then made an unbeaten 96 to steer them to a seven-wicket win. Thava Nig (5-18) and Suthaharan Nadesapillai (5-17) bowled Sheffield University Staff out for 35 and Kexborough completed a ten-wicket win in the fifth over. Stocksbridge moved up to third place with a crushing win over bottom side Barnsley Woolley Miners 3rds at Woolley, and eight points separate the top four. Skipper Andrew Hirst (146 off 133 balls) and James Tevendale (65 not out) were to the fore in the visitors' daunting 348-4, then Andrew Hibbert (4-51) and Joe Hibbert (5-21) bowled Barnsley out for 103 in reply. Bradfield Village Fellowship bowled relegation-threatened Doncaster Town 3rds out for 169 at Blaxton on their way to a three-wicket win. Another side in the bottom three, Sheffield Caribbean, were bowled out for 102 at home to Pledwick, for whom James Eastlake took 6-19; George Butterfield then made 50 in the visitors’ seven-wicket win. 

 

 

Leaders Wombwell Main returned to winning ways after last week’s set-back, coming out on top in a high-scoring encounter with their nearest challengers Silkstone United at the I-Source Stadium. Elliot Mann (119 not out off 137 balls) and Thomas Goldsby-West (120 in 118 balls) put on 225 for the home side’s second wicket in their 290-2; then skipper Lee White (94) and William Clegg (82 not out) led Silkstone’s valiant response, but they fell short on 263-4. Hatfield Town 2nds took advantage of Silkstone’s defeat when they chased down a highly-competitive 261-5 by Hallam 3rds at Sandygate. David Adams (113 off 115 balls) and Narender Manohar (54 not out off 24) were the main men for Hallam; then, after they lost three early wickets, Wiqas Sikander (112 off 115 balls) led the visitors to a four-wicket win. Sheffield Collegiate 4ths moved up a place by beating Warmsworth 2nds at Abbeydale after the experienced Charlie Wall was 97 not out in the home side’s 201-5; then another seasoned campaigner, Nadeem Khan, took 5-13 when Warmsworth were all out for 91 in reply. Maltby Miners Welfare were all out for 158 at home to Waverley, for whom Hariharan Beskar made 75 in their five-wicket win. Jack Durkan and Paul Rooke (59) put on 111 for Penistone 2nds’ first wicket in their 199-9 against luckless Barnby Dun at Glass Park; then Paul Dalton took 6-10 when the home side were all out for 83 in reply. Jordan Hanson took 4-39 for Thorpe Hesley & High Green 2nds when they bowled Millhouses Works 2nds out for 155 at Smithywood Road; then Iain MacDonald (80 not out) and Chris Fisher (59 not out) had an unbroken second wicket stand of 144 in their side’s nine-wicket win. 

 

 

Muhammed Khan (4-27) and Atif Qayyum (5-18) bowled Conisbrough 2nds out for 78 at Olive Grove, and runaway leaders Sheffield Centralians duly completed an eight-wicket win. Matthew Brown took 6-43 for Whitley Hall 3rds when they bowled Parkhead 2nds out for 193 at Ecclesall Road, but although Ben Gillott made 76 in the visitors’ reply, Owen Morris took 5-39 and they were all out seven short on 186, Parkhead hanging on to second place from Fishlake on ‘games won’. Fishlake prevailed in a similarly close encounter; Charlie Metcalfe (86) and Tim Elliot (50) helped them post 210-7 against Green Moor at Hill Top, but after Curtis Coles (97) and Satvir Singh (53) had put on 100 for the fourth wicket in the home side’s reply, player-of-the-match Metcalfe took 4-30 and they were all out for 202. Whiston Parish Church 2nds bowled out Sheffield Caribbean 2nds for 175 at Church Fields, then skipper Scott Wilson (77) and Joseph Gaffney (79 not out) had a 136-run second-wicket partnership that took them within sight of their eight-wicket win. Khalil Khan (51) held Sheffield United 2nds’ early order together at home to Wadworth, before Muhammad Khan (56) and Shahid Hussain (67) put on 104 for their fourth wicket to help them post 224 all out, James Needham taking 4-45 for the visitors; then Wadworth fell well short on 143-7 in reply. Hasan Ali took 4-42 when Scholes & Harley bowled bottom side Handsworth out for 130 at Oliver’s Mount; then opener Mark Newbould (64) helped the visitors edge to a two-wicket win. 

 

 

The top two met at Bracken Moor, where Higham 2nds made 185-9, opener James Lawson making 52 and James Hague taking 6-53 for Stocksbridge 2nds; then a succession of twenties and one thirty helped the leaders extend their advantage at the top to 28 points, with a three-wicket win. Wombwell Main 2nds are third, and they restricted Mexborough Athletic to 168-6 at the Beecroft Estates Ground, Bradley Sharp making 96 for the home side; then Tom James (78 not out) helped the visitors to a six-wicket win. Harry Tudor took three wickets for no runs in his seven balls for lowly Adwick-le-Street when they bowled out Darfield 2nds for 104 at School Street; then Liam Bishop (60 not out) led the visitors to a ten-wicket win. Houghton Main 2nds were 113-9 against Bradfield Village Fellowship 2nds at the Sands, Tim Pierce taking 5-23, before a 56-run last-wicket partnership between Isaac Ling and Terry Barrass lifted them to 169 all out; then Gulagha Sadiq took 4-40 when Bradfield were all out for 134 in reply. 

 

 

There was a big win for leaders Sheffield Medics when they played Sheffield Transport at Meadowhead. Skipper Arun Urs (53) was again the top scorer in Medics’ 223-9, Chris Johnson taking 6-55 for the home side; then six bowlers shared the wickets when Transport were all out for 61 in reply. Zahid Momand took 4-20 when Allama Iqbal bowled Sheffield Superkings out for 85 at Graves Park, and skipper Sajid Ali was unbeaten on 57 when the home side completed a nine-wicket win. Manu Seethan (6-20) helped The Chronicles England to bowl bottom side Wickersley Old Village 3rds out for 133, but they then were made to work hard for their two-wicket win. Skipper William Sammons (86) and Noman Iqbal (105 off 88 balls) had a 177-run third-wicket partnership in Norton Woodseats 2nds’ 237-6 at home to Sheffield Centralians 2nds; Sujitkumar Nair (50) then played a lone hand when Centralians replied, and they were all out for 115. Josh Lester took 4-32 and Wayne Base 4-4 when Coal Aston 3rds bowled Brookhouse out for 91 at Rose Lane, and the visitors completed a six-wicket win in the 15th over. 

 

 

Bailey Hopkins (115 off 81 balls) and skipper Luke Malone (78) led Frickley Colliery 2nds to a formidable 324-8 at home to Hallam 4ths; Ffinlo Dyde (50) and Jas Singh (99 not out) got the visitors to 112-1 in reply, but the task was too great, and they finished on a respectable 203-5. Eden Madras Parklands remain two points behind the leaders after bowling out Upper Haugh 3rds for 116 and then edging to a two-wicket win in the 27th over. Third-placed West Bretton 2nds slipped to a second successive defeat when Monk Bretton 2nds posted 203-7 at Park Lane and the home side were all out for 171 in reply, Andy Taylor and Colin Deakin taking four wickets each. David Cocliff recorded 10-2-19-8 when Pledwick 2nds bowled Worsbrough Bridge 2nds out for 71 at Pledwick Well; then Tarun Narula (47 not out) led them to a nine-wicket win. 

 

 

Leaders Waverley 2nds increased their lead at the top to 40 points after they restricted Sheffield Transport 2nds to 105-7; Belgin Thomas then hit an unbeaten 50 in their nine-wicket win. Callum Pearce took 4-41 when Thorncliffe & Wentworth 2nds bowled third-placed Sheffield Spartans out for 162 at Lound Side; then Kamran Ditta took 4-12 to help the visitors to bowl their hosts out for 132 in reply. Skipper Edward Ide made 56 in Hallam 5ths’ 127-8 against Norton Oakes 2nds at Oakes Park, but the home side eased to a seven-wicket win in the 22nd over. Junaid Khan (85) and Shahfaisal Safi (51 not out) were chiefly responsible for Handsworth 2nds’s 254-9 against Sheffield Collegiate 5ths at Castle Dyke; Collegiate skipper Joshua Gillgrass (138 off 66 balls) then powered his side to a two-wicket win, sharing in a 165-run second wicket partnership with opener Charlie Machon (49). 

On Sunday, De la Salle made 154-7 against Elsecar 3rds at the Al-Murad Stadium, but when the home side replied, opener Alfie Gibson made 64, sharing in a fourth wicket stand of 86 with Oliver Mottram, to help his side to a three-wicket win that leaves them in second place, ten points ahead of Spartans. 

 

 

Leaders Sheffield University Staff 2nds bowled bottom side Wath 3rds out for 72 at Warminster Road; then completed a seven-wicket win inside 14 overs. Three sides are now level in second place, 30 points behind the leaders. The first of these, Kexborough 2nds, bowled Silkstone United 2nds out for 51, Dale Shillito taking 4-13; then cantered to a nine-wicket win in the eighth over. Fishlake 2nds are the second of these, despite losing for the second week running, when they made a modest 155-9 at home to Eden Madras Parklands 2nds, skipper John Kemp contributing 65 and Jamie Bunn taking 6-48 for the visitors; Eden Madras then completed a six-wicket win in the 34th over. Ben Whitehouse (107 not out off 79 balls) and Fred Baker (102 off 118 balls) put on 209 for third wicket for the last of the three, Dearne, in their formidable 276-6 against Sprotbrough 4ths at Furlong Road; six bowlers then shared the wickets when the visitors were 150-9 in reply. Mexborough Athletic 2nds were bowled out for 149 by Higham 3rds at Thurgoland, Jamil Hussain making 59 and William Watt taking 6-38 for the home side; Billy Allen then made an unbeaten 90 when Higham replied, and they won by eight wickets. 

 

 

The top two met at Stonelow, where Whiston Forge 2nds closed the gap to leaders Coal Aston 4ths after Adam Booth made 74 in their 178-9, Prashan Rasanjaya taking 4-25 for the hosts; then Mark Daly took 7-37 when Coal Aston replied, and they were all out for 125. Ashley Statham (96) and skipper Denis Smith (109 off 104 balls) put on 201 for Oughtibridge War Memorial 3rds’ first wicket in their competitive 258-4 against third-placed Tickhill 2nds at Wentworth; forties from Jacob and William Mortimore then helped the visitors to a three-wicket win. Sheffield University Staff 3rds dropped out of the top three when, after bowling De la Salle 2nds out for 155 at Beauchief, they were all out for 125 in reply, Michael Eaton taking 4-24. Opener Mike Rose made 71 in Richmond‘s 168 all out against Hallam 6ths at Birkdale; and the home side were 103-9 in reply. Lee Ford’s 70 was the backbone of Frecheville Community 2nds’ 199-8 away to Scholes & Harley 2nds, for whom Oliver Lister took 5-31; the home side were then all out for 114 in reply.
