Round-up of league & cup games played on 27 & 28 June

The half-way stage in the league programme was reached with the league tables across the divisions showing teams pulling away at the top in some divisions, whereas in others, only a handful of points separate then promotion contenders, no more so than in Division 5, where 18 points separate the top seven. 

 

 

Abdul Faseeh (65) and Rubaiyat Abrar (53 not out) helped the leaders, Sheffield Collegiate, to a competitive 217-6 at home to top four contenders Whitley Hall. Collegiate seemed to be taking control when the visitors were 93-4 in reply, but Muhammad Ashraf (59) and Sam Chatterton (42) added 93 for the fifth wicket to put Whitley on top. But after Ashraf fell, Henry Eldred (4-31) led a fight-back by the home side, and Whitley fell eight short on 209-8. Second-placed Cleethorpes emphatically returned to winning ways; Tom Keast (179 off 134 balls) led the way, sharing in a second wicket stand of 158 with his skipper, Ian Mansfield (71), whilst Jordan Cook weighed in with 79 off 33 balls, as the visitors piled up a daunting 408-4. Joe Norbury made 56 in the Whiston Parish Church reply, but they were never in the hunt, and five bowlers took wickets as they were bowled out for 196. Mayank Mishra (70) and Abdul Qayoom (55) helped Wickersley Old Village to 228 all out at home to third-placed Cawthorne, for whom Mustafa Shinwari took 5-43. Liam Wiles (102 off 92 balls) then hit his second hundred in three weeks to lead his side to a three-wicket win with four overs left, whilst Mishra completed another final all-round game with 4-87. Sprotbrough are now just six points from ninth place after Nicky Graves (4-49) helped them restrict Doncaster Town to 167-9 at the Spinks Ground; the visitors were then in trouble at 123-8 in reply but skipper Dean Williamson saw them to an invaluable win with an unbeaten 33. Bottom side Hallam entertained fourth-placed Tickhill at Crimicar, where the visitors were indebted to Bilal Anjam (61) and Connor Fisher (90), who added 137 for the fifth wicket, to lift them from 43-4 and enable them to reach 216-7; the home side were then all out for 138 in reply. Liam Silvester (54) and Kieran Watson (49) put on 90 for Appleby Frodingham’s third wicket against Wakefield Thornes at Brumby Hall and they reached 185-5; James Rhodes (49) and Waqar Hussain (83) then added 107 for Thornes’ third wicket, and they completed a seven-wicket win in the 37th over. 

 

 

Leaders Ackworth bowled bottom side Rockingham Colliery out for 134, then skipper Luke Townsend (79) led them to a six-wicket win in the 35th over. Barnsley Woolley Miners’ Ali Zaryab is the League’s top run-scorer in league matches with 878, over 300 more than anyone else, and he made his fourth hundred of the season, 169 against Doncaster Town 2nds at Shaw Lane. He put on 213 for the first wicket with William Chapman (101) and 107 for the second with Lucas Slatter, as the home side posted an impressive 363-4; Max Heseltine then took 5-46 when the visitors were bowled out for 157 in reply, Alex Rudkin making 59 of those. Third and fourth met at the Al-Murad Stadium, where Arsalan Mir made 65 of Elsecar’s 168-8 against Aston Hall; Joe Denby then took 4-26 when the visitors were all out for 153 in reply. Coal Aston moved up to fourth place after coming out on top in a game where 558 runs were scored at the Brookfield Oval. Opener Jack Hall (104 off 111 balls) and Regan Shehan (75) put on 183 for the visitors’ second wicket in their imposing 281-6; but opener Peter Mawdley made an unbeaten 141 off 148 balls when Tickhill 2nds replied, and with Hernus Marais contributing 57, they were just four runs short on 277-6 at the end. Two of the bottom three met at Waterside Gardens, where Oughtibridge War Memorial gained a valuable win. The home side reached 188 all out, George Marks taking 4-57, but Sheffield Collegiate 2nds were all out for 115 in reply, despite 54 from Robbie McKenna. Imran Khan took 6-37 when Shiregreen bowled Upper Haugh out for 109 at Wentworth Road; then Haris Khan was 54 not out when the visitors completed a nine-wicket win. 

 

 

James Loveridge (63) and Kyle Humphrys (103 off 86 balls) put on 121 for the third wicket when leaders Warmsworth piled up 335-6 against West Bretton at Common Lane; then Lewis Brown took 4-38 when the visitors were all out for 155 in reply. Wath kept up the pace in second place after Treeton had posted a very competitive 256-6 at Moor Road, with Gareth Davis making 53 and Joe Stickland 73 not out; then opener Jason van Dyk made 103 off 113 balls, sharing in a second-wicket stand of 188 with Syed Shah (98) as the home side completed an eight-wicket win with three overs to spare. Adam Rollin (78 not out) helped Frickley Colliery to 179-8 at home to Conisbrough; then skipper Joe Farmer (76) and Samuel Grant (77) put on 113 for the third wicket to ease the visitors to a six-wicket win in the 38th over. Chris Siddall (86) and James Ahmed put of 129 for Whitley Hall 2nds’ first wicket, then James Smith hit an unbeaten 71 in their 258-7 against Monk Bretton at Baxter Field; then Jack Myers took 4-18 when the visitors were bowled out for 61 in reply. Joe Milner’s 87 was the backbone of Parkhead’s 206 at home to bottom side Wickersley Old Village 2nds, for whom Connor Snelgrove took 6-46; Nathan Taylor made 58 when the visitors replied, but Dilshan Sukumar took 5-57 and they were all out for 180. Cawthorne 2nds were 132-6 when skipper Spence Wiles was out for 54 at home to Houghton Main, but Charlie Parkin’s 72 lifted them to 241-9; Asim Javed made 121 off 109 balls and received good support from Akash Rawal (54) but Ryan Gibson took 5-33 and the visitors were all out for 221. 

 

 

Michael Goodchild (51) and skipper Ben Fielding (64) helped leaders Sheffield Collegiate 3rds to 231-6 at home to Elsecar 2nds; then 15-year-old Joseph Kemp made 93 when the visitors replied, and they finished just five runs short on 226-7, Fielding completing a match-winning performance with 4-54. Norton Oakes moved up to third by beating the side immediately below them at the start, Barnsley Woolley Miners 2nds, at Oakes Park. Niqobile Sibanda (77) and skipper Joshua Cross (50) helped the home side to 224 all out, whilst Lewis Wilkinson took 4-60 for Barnsley; Harrison Hayes (50) and skipper Mark Wilkinson (56) provided the resistance when the visitors replied, but they were all out for 167. Norton Woodseats, second at the start of play, were 94-9 at home to Hatfield Town, but number ten James Speck (52) gave them something to bowl at, and they were all out for 164, Aiden Coulbeck taking 5-24; however, the visitors then completed a six-wicket win in 33 overs. Penistone made 212-6 at home to second-bottom Aston Hall 2nds, then opener Jamie Ingham (66) set the visitors on their way to a much-needed three-wicket win. Thorpe Hesley & High Green were 71-7 at home to Millhouses Works before Ashley Reynolds (57) helped them reach 176 all out, with Eddie Raper taking 4-44; then Oliver Law took 4-42 when the visitors replied, and they were all out three runs short, despite 59 from opener Kieren O’Sullivan. Harley Cushan (55) and Jack Machin (57 not out) were the main contributors to Wakefield Thornes 2nds’ 217-7 at home to bottom side Hallam 2nds, for whom Jamie Stone took 4-54; Stone then made 58 at the top of the order, and with Edward Haynes contributing 56, Hallam completed a five-wicket win with five overs to spare. 

 

 

The top two met at Stonelow, where Frecheville Community were bowled out for 182, Louis Fairest making 67 at the top of the order and Edward Rabjohn taking 4-35 for visitors Coal Aston 2nds; Shahzad Hussain then made 67 as Coal Aston completed a four-wicket win that takes them level with Frecheville at the top. Third-placed Darfield had a big win over bottom side Wath 2nds at School Street; Josh Barrick (69) and Ashley Potter (110 off 98 balls) helped the home side post a formidable 294-8; then Saman Kursheed took 6-18 when the visitors were bowled out for 97 in reply, despite 50 from opener Jonathan Plater. Higham lost ground on the leading group after they were restricted to 160-6 against second-bottom Sheffield United at Bawtry Road, and the hosts completed a three-wicket win. James Armitage (81) and Ekambir Singh (93) put on 174 for Rockingham Colliery 2nds’ second wicket in their 254-6 at home to Upper Haugh 2nds; they then bowled their visitors out for 153, despite Abdul Zahab’s 68. Thomas Langley (50) and Elizabeth Fidler got Sprotbrough 2nds off to a good start with an opening stand of 93, and they reached 198-9 at home to Oughtibridge War Memorial 2nds, who then completed a three-wicket win, with William Clegg making 51. Callum Bentley (78) and Richard Taylor (59) were the main run-scorers for Worsbrough Bridge in their 230 all out against Shiregreen 2nds at Hatfield House Lane; Liam Levitt (4-53) and Ryan Mann (5-21) then bowled the home side out for 144 in reply. 

 

 

There was a crushing win for leaders Thorncliffe & Wentworth over Sheffield Caribbean at Lound Side, where skipper Connor Brunt (50) and Jason Clark (75) got the home side off to a fine start with an opening stand of 107 on their way to 259-8, Waqas Mahroof taking 4-57 for the visitors; five bowlers then shared the wickets when Caribbean were all out for 64 in reply. Sheffield University Staff kept up the pressure on the leaders when they bowled bottom side Barnsley Woolley Miners 3rds out for 52 and completed a nine-wicket win in the 11th over. James Eastlake and Aaron Sleight both contributed fifties when Pledwick were bowled out for 200 at home to third-placed Whiston Forge; but when the visitors replied, Harrison Struggles led the way with 73 and they edged to a one-wicket win with nine balls left, despite Owen Leith’s 5-43. Not for the first time, Dave Harris (52) and Alex Clemo (53) were the top-scorers in Ackworth 2nds' 169-8 against Stocksbridge at Bracken Moor; Jack Murfin then made an unbeaten 75 to guide the home side to a seven-wicket win. Mark Dickinson made 82 for Doncaster Town 3rds away to Treeton 2nds, but his side were all out for 173; Steve Foster (49) and James Hobson (62 not out) then led the hosts to an eight-wicket win. Bradfield Village Fellowship were all out for 114 at home to Kexborough, who completed a seven-wicket win in the 32nd over. 

 

 

Leaders Wombwell Main were well beaten on their visit to Totley, where Waverley made 183 all out, Sajid Hussain contributing 55, whilst Mark Mustill-Hope took 4-72; Vishnu das Devadas then took 4-20 when the visitors were all out for 88 in reply. Silkstone United narrowed the gap to the leaders to six points with a comfortable win over bottom club Barnby Dun at Barnsley Road. Joseph Atkinson (67) led the way in United’s 207 all out, then Finlay Allen recorded 7-3-8-5 when the visitors were all out for 80 in reply. Two points further back are Hatfield Town 2nds, who bowled Maltby Miners Welfare out for 65, with four wickets each for Alex Brown and James Copley; then completed a seven-wicket win inside ten overs. Sheffield Collegiate 4ths were second at the start but dropped two places after being restricted to 152-9 by Penistone 2nds at Queen Street; Richard Mathewson was unbeaten on 67 for the visitors, but opener Jack Durkan (74) then led Penistone to a six-wicket win. Chris Fisher (50) was the top-scorer in Thorpe Hesley & High Green 2nds 219-6 against Warmsworth 2nds at Common Lane; then Kelvin Defty (79) set the home side on their way to a five-wicket win. Andy Belfield took 6-25 when Millhouses Works 2nds bowled Hallam 3rds out for 97 at Millhouses Park, and the hosts completed an eight-wicket win in the 28th over. 

 

 

Sheffield Centralians have the biggest lead at the top of any division, 36 points, after their latest win, over Sheffield Caribbean 2nds at the Common. Fifties from Gulfraz Khan and Amjid Khan helped the visitors reach 243 all out; then Awais Ahmad made 63 at the top of the order for Caribbean, and with five scores of twenty-plus down the order, they made the visitors work for their win, finishing 22 short on 221-9, Atif Qayyum taking 4-43. Parkhead 2nds came out on top in the battle of the second and third clubs at Pinfold Lane. The visitors were 100-3 before three wickets fell for six runs, but Kai Ellison’s unbeaten 40 took them to 167-7, Jonathan Holmes taking 5-57; Charlie Metcalfe made 52 for Fishlake in reply, but Ian Davis (4-26) took the last four wickets to fall, and they ended 14 short on 153-9. Fishlake and Parkhead are level on 96 points, with Whiston Parish Church 2nds just four further back after beating Whitley Hall 3rds at Hill Top. Replying to Whitley’s 208-8, Shabaz Qadeer hit an unbeaten 109 off 87 balls as the visitors completed a five-wicket win. Wadworth have moved into the top half; Dylan Sisman (96) and James Needham (55) putting on 106 for the third wicket in their impressive 234-6 at home to Green Moor; and there were four wickets each for Needham and Addison Senior when the visitors were all out for 175 in reply. Skipper Tom Humphries made 70 in Conisbrough 2nds' 195 all out against bottom side Handsworth, for whom Fida Mohammad took 6-33; Charlie Tippett then took 5-36 when Handsworth were all out for 166 in reply, opener Hamza Bhutta top-scoring with 62. Scholes & Harley made 232-7 at home to Sheffield United 2nds, who were all out for 150 in reply, despite 56 from skipper Shahid Hussain. 

 

 

Leaders Stocksbridge 2nds were gifted 12 points when Doncaster Town 4ths conceded their game. Higham 2nds lost ground when they were bowled out for 115 at home to Mexborough Athletic, for whom Lee Jeffries took 4-10; then Darren Snow (51 not out) and Gareth Hughes had an unbroken third wicket partnership of 102 in Athletic’s eight-wicket win. Rockingham Colliery 3rds also lost an opportunity to close the gap to the top two when opener Kye Jay Kitching (102 off 99 balls) led Houghton Main 2nds to 251-6; then Gulaga Singh took 4-21 and the Colliery were 152-8 in reply. Billy Smith took 4-21 when Wombwell Main 2nds bowled Darfield 2nds out for 127 at the I-Source Stadium, and the home side cantered to a six-wicket win in the 25th over. Skipper Craig Shepherd made 60 out of Bradfield Village Fellowship 2nds’ 140 all out at home to Adwick-le-Street, and Arun Stafford took 5-32 when the visitors were all out for 88 in reply. 

 

 

Sheffield Medics have now moved 26 points clear at the top after comfortably beating Brookhouse at Baslow. Jayan Mehotra (77) and Arun Urs (64) led the way in Medics’ 277-9, and the visitors were all out for 131 in reply. Second met third, with Allama Iqbal leapfrogging their opponents after Zahid Momand took 5-29 to help them bowl Coal Aston 3rds out for 75 at Stonelow; and despite Josh Lester recording 5-3-9-4, the visitors completed a six-wicket win in the 16th over. Sheffield Superkings were bowled out for 141 at home to The Chronicles England, Albin Manuel taking 5-36; but the visitors were all out for 128 in reply. Mayank Ghalot took 5-37 when Sheffield Transport were bowled out for 149 at Olive Grove; Sheffield Centralians 2nds then edged to a one-wicket win with four overs left. Bottom side Wickersley Old Village 3rds made 163 all out against Norton Woodseats 2nds at Brookhouse, thanks mainly to opener Joe Yellott’s 81; Oliver Milnes then took 4-34 when the visitors were dismissed for 111 in reply. 

 

 

 

David Plummer’s 51 was crucial when Upper Haugh 3rds posted 155-9 against previously-unbeaten Frickley Colliery 2nds at Hooton Pagnell; Callum Plummer then took 4-38 when the visitors were all out for 121 in reply. Eden Madras Parklands narrowed the gap to the leaders to two points when, after bowling Worsbrough Bridge 2nds out for 115 at the Warm Roofs ground, Raja Aslam taking 5-22, they completed a six-wicket win in 23 overs, largely thanks to Ithikash Arum (71 not out off 46 balls). West Bretton 2nds missed the chance to narrow the gap to the top two when they were bowled out for 157 by Hallam 4ths at Sandygate, Matt Cadell taking 4-12; then opener Jon Maiden (53) set Hallam on their way to a five-wicket win. Reece Marsh made a valuable 48 for Sprotbrough 4ths and they reached 164 all out against Monk Bretton 2nds at the Castle Ground; William Braithwaite (4-33) and Harry Gateley (5-35) then bowled the home side out for 78 in reply. Barnsley Woolley Miners 4ths conceded to Pledwick 2nds. 

 

 

Waverley 2nds lead the division by 32 points after beating Hallam 5ths at Birkdale School; after restricting their hosts to 118-9, Waverley eased to a six-wicket win in the 21st over. Thorncliffe & Wentworth 2nds bowled Handsworth 2nds out for 145 at Oliver’s Mount, then skipper Aaron Wittaker hit an unbeaten 66 to take the visitors to a four-wicket win that moves them to within six points of Spartans in second. Norton Oakes 2nds bowled De la Salle out for 133 at Beauchief; then reached their target with two wickets and three balls to spare. Elsecar 3rds conceded to Sheffield Spartans and Sheffield Collegiate 5ths conceded to Sheffield Transport 2nds. 

 

 

Leaders Sheffield University Staff 2nds had a big win over Mexborough Athletic 2nds at the Beecroft Estates ground. Alasdair Campbell (98 not out) and skipper Ciaran Hanvey (148 off 84 balls) had a third-wicket partnership of 213 in their 304-4; then Chris Stride took 4-17 when they bowled Athletic out for 171 in reply. Second-placed Fishlake 2nds lost ground on the leaders when they were narrowly beaten by their nearest challengers Kexborough 2nds at Bence Lane. James Stoddart (52) and Finlay Shillito (59) helped the hosts to 160-9; then, with Thomas Green taking 4-25, the visitors looked beaten at 124-9 in reply, but an unbroken last wicket stand on 34 between Jude Hubbard and Keith Bee took Fishlake to within three runs of victory, on 158-9. Dearne bowled Eden Madras Parklands 2nds out for 127, Fred Baker taking 4-27; then Ben Whitehouse (63) took the visitors to within sight of victory at 119-5, but four wickets then fell for six runs and the last pair were left to score the three runs needed to win. Jack Dunning (50) top-scored in Silkstone United 2nds’ 145-9, then five bowlers took wickets when they bowled out bottom side Wath 3rds for 72 in reply. Sprotbrough 4ths conceded to Higham 3rds. 

 

 

Leaders Coal Aston 4ths bowled out their nearest challengers, Sheffield University Staff 3rds, for 147 at Great Longstone, despite Fred Fox’s 52; then skipper Tom Crown led the way to their five-wicket win. Whiston Forge 2nds are now up to second place; Cade Darwin (58) and Daniel Rose (93) putting on 114 for their second wicket in their 248-7 at home to Scholes & Harley 2nds, then Joshua Daly took 4-12 when the visitors were bowled out for 88 in reply. Jacob Mortimore made an unbeaten 85 in Tickhill 2nds’ 192-8 against Hallam 6ths at Birkdale School, and Harry Ogley took 4-10 when the home side were all out for 115 in reply. John Grayson’s 169 at the top of the order was crucial for Oughtibridge War Memorial 3rds, who were all out for 169; and they then bowled out Frecheville Community 2nds for 150 in reply, Isa Rasool taking 4-23 and Louis Hutchinson 5-20, whilst Lee Ford was unbeaten on 54 for Frecheville.
