Round-up of league & cup games played on 25 & 26 July

 

Sheffield Collegiate overwhelmed relegation-battlers Whiston Parish Church at Abbeydale after Jack Timby (138 off 124 balls) and Abdul Faseeh (92) had put on 228 for the home side’s first wicket in their 316-8; Jamie Carrington then took 6-32 when Whiston were bowled out for 118, Bhargav Merai top-scoring with 67. Collegiate are now one of four teams in the whole league that remain unbeaten. An unbroken ninth-wicket stand of 94 between David Mansfield (99 not out) and Josh Knapton lifted second-placed Cleethorpes from 149-8 to 243-8 against Doncaster Town at the Spinks ground; Harry Clewett then took 4-59 when the home side were bowled out for 205 in reply, with James Ward making 54. Ikramullah Naseri (57) held the top order together for third-placed Cawthorne at Brumby Hall, then forties from skipper Archie Greaves and Ibrahim Safi took the visitors to 270-9; Kieran Lindley made 69 in Appleby Frodingham’s reply, but they were all out for 174. Muhammad Ashraf (65) led Whitley Hall to 259-8 away to Tickhill, for whom Paddy Turner took 4-43; Connor Fisher then made a brilliant unbeaten 137 off 136 balls to take his side to a five-wicket win with two balls to spare. James Rhodes made an unbeaten 157 off 173 balls in Wakefield Thornes’ 286-5 at home to Sprotbrough; Joe Toole (64) and Thomas Langley (58 not out) both made spirited contributions in the visitors reply, but they finished 45 short on 241-8. Mayank Mishra (50) and Abdul Qayoom (49) helped Wickersley Old Village post 225 all out against Hallam at Crimicar, Neev Joshi taking 4-54; rain then reduced the home side’s target to 119 off 22 overs, which they achieved with seven wickets and four balls to spare, Andre Bradford making an unbeaten 49. 

 

 

Jerome Bossr (96) and Shingi Masakadza (71) put on 135 for the third wicket to help leaders Ackworth to 260-7 at home to third-placed Elsecar; in reply Arsalan Mir (82) and Tanzeel Ali (57) put on 118 for the fourth wicket to put the visitors in the driving seat at 193-3, but Dale Longfield (5-65) then bowled his side to a 14-run win. Ali Zaryab’s seventh hundred of the season (156 off 145 balls), including a second-wicket partnership of 167 with his skipper Boeta Beukes (60), took second-placed Barnsley Woolley Miners to a formidable 320-5 at home to Tickhill 2nds; Lucas Slatter (5-38) and Max Heseltine (4-51) then bowled the visitors out for 201 in reply. Josh Coulson took 4-24 when Aston Hall bowled Upper Haugh out for 113 at Wentworth Road; Nathan Ward then made 63 in the visitors’ nine-wicket win. Matthew Tyas made 69 for Sheffield Collegiate 2nds in their 208 all out against Shiregreen at Hatfield House Lane, and then took 4-22 when the hosts were bowled out for 105 in reply. Dave Rodgers (60) and Regan Sheahan (156 not out off 147 balls) put on 132 for the first wicket to help Coal Aston to post a daunting 341-4 away to Oughtibridge War Memorial; Sheahan took four wickets when the home side replied, but despite 54 from opener Michael Brown and positive contributions from the lower order, they ended 50 short on 291-9 in reply. Paul Cummins took 5-33 to help Rockingham Colliery bowl Doncaster Town 2nds out for 124 at Hoyland Common; the home side were then indebted to Lasith Lakshan’s 61 for their four-wicket win. 

 

 

Zeeshan Ahmad took 5-58 for Parkhead against Warmsworth when they bowled the leaders out for 248 at Ecclesall Road; facing a revised target of 160 in 32 overs, the home side then fell 27 short on 132-5. Second-placed Wath were bowled out for 122 away to Frickley Colliery, for whom Jake Taberner took 4-52; the home side then eased to a six-wicket win in the 28th over. Despite their defeat, Wath still hold a 26-point advantage over third-placed Whitley Hall 2nds, who bowled Treeton out for 215 at Baxter Field, despite 98 from Steve Foster, whilst home skipper Jack Myers took 6-35; James Ahmed (63) and Lewis Wroe (79 not out) then steered the hosts to an eight-wicket win, putting on 138 for the second wicket together. Shadab Khan made 69 for Houghton Main when they were bowled out for 187 at home to Conisbrough, for whom Samuel Grant took 6-47; skipper Joe Farmer (59) and Mathew Lowe (55) then put on 100 for the second wicket to set the visitors on their way to a five-wicket win. Haider Raja (63) and skipper Chris Cobb (75) got Wickersley Old Village 2nds off to a fine start at home to Monk Bretton with an opening stand of 151, after which there were four run outs, and they closed on 279-7; in reply, Joshua van Oudsthoorn (66), Chris Schofield (66) and Jaspreet Singh (50) laid the foundation for the visitors’ one-wicket win with four balls to spare. Skipper Spencer Wiles (84) provided the backbone of Cawthorne 2nds' 197 all out at home to West Bretton, for whom Chris Reece took 4-44; Harry Airstone then took 4-32 when the visitors were dismissed for 129 in reply. 

 

 

Thomas Eyre (84) and skipper James Thompson (150 not out off 115 balls) put on 176 for the second wicket in leaders Norton Oakes’ formidable 322-3 against Millhouses Works at Oakes Park; Callum East then took 4-47 when the visitors were bowled out for 149 in reply. Thorpe Hesley & High Green kept pace eight points behind in second after bowling Norton Woodseats out for 223 at Matthews Lane, Jordan Hanson taking 4-61 and Blake Stocks making 66 for the home side; opener Keegan Thiele then made an unbeaten 120 off 127 balls to lead his side to a two-wicket win, whilst Rahimullah Khil took 5-52 for Woodseats. Jack Dixon (74) and Ben Fielding (60) helped Sheffield Collegiate 3rds to post 239-5 at home to Hallam 2nds, for whom skipper Sam Yellops was unbeaten on 56 when his side were bowled out for 202 in reply, Fielding taking 5-70 to keep Collegiate firmly in the promotion race in third. Penistone made 191-7 at home to Hatfield Town, for whom Joseph Dixon took 4-66; Charlie Armitage then took 4-45 when the visitors replied, and they finished 17 short on 174-8. Thorston Morkel (75) top-scored for Elsecar 2nds in their 250-6 at home to Barnsley Woolley Miners 2nds; Ollie Chapman Stott (54) and Isaac Wilkes (63 not out) provided most resistance when the visitors replied, but they finished 54 short on 196-8. Harley Cushan (73) was in the runs again for Wakefield Thornes 2nds when they were all out for 182 against Aston Hall 2nds, for whom Tom Coulson took 4-28; skipper Mark Barnard made 46 at the top of the order in Aston Hall’s reply, but when he was sixth out at 95 the end came swiftly and they were all out for 110. 

 

Division 3 

 

Leaders Coal Aston 2nds were indebted to Shahzad Hussain (96 not out) when they reached 186-6 against Worsbrough Bridge at Stonelow; Eliot Tye then took 5-25 when the visitors were restricted to 153-8 in reply. Wilfred Brooke (53) was the top-scorer in Higham’s 182 all out against second-placed Frecheville Community at the Hobson Bowl; then Brad Gledhill (5-34) and Gareth Kilburn (5-39) bowled the home side out for 134 in reply. Darfield’s Nathan Kitchen (5-45) and Jordan Clayton (4-34) bowled Shiregreen 2nds out for 85 at School Street; and the hosts then completed an eight-wicket win that takes them level on points with Frecheville in second. David Plummer took 6-41 for Upper Haugh 2nds when they bowled Sheffield United out for 145 at Bawtry Road; but Muhammad Naseem then took 5-29 for the home side and Upper Haugh were all out for 115 in reply. Zakariya Farouk took 4-40 for Rockingham Colliery 2nds when they bowled Sprotbrough 2nds out for 221 at Melton Road; but his side were all out for 114 in reply. Bottom side Wath 2nds were bowled out for 49 by Oughtibridge War Memorial 2nds at Moor Road, Muhammad Ali taking 4-19, and the visitors duly completed a ten-wicket win in quick time. 

 

 

A resounding win for leaders Whiston Forge helped them maintain their two-point advantage at the top; Harrison Struggles (50) and Owen Struggles (119 not out off 100 balls) leading them to 255-9 at home to Barnsley Woolley Miners 3rds, for whom Ahmed Mohammadi took 4-65, then Mark Traquair took 7-23 when the visitors were bowled out for 63 in reply. Second-placed Thorncliffe & Wentworth saw off fellow promotion-contenders Sheffield University Staff at Warminster Road after Shaik Azeez took 5-45 to help bowl the home side out for 181; Jason Clark (50), supported by forties from Kamran Younis and Hummad Younis, then took Thorncliffe to a five-wicket win. Stocksbridge returned to winning ways after restricting Pledwick to 138-8, of which Liam Ineson made 66, then completed a four-wicket win, that leaves them on level points with Thorncliffe. Treeton 2nds made 182-9 at home to Ackworth 2nds, for whom Karl Buxton took 4-31; then forties from Dave Harris, Alex Clemo and Kevin Booth took the visitors to a five-wicket win, that keeps them in touch with the three leading clubs. Suthaharan Nadesapillai took 4-35 and Neil Hinchliffe 4-26 to help Kexborough bowl Doncaster Town 3rds out for 128 at Blaxton; Bavasuthan Selvanayagam was then 45 not out when his side completed a five-wicket win that keeps them level with Ackworth. 

 

 

Henry Skelton (5-64) and Matthew Tonks (5-27) bowled Thorpe Hesley & High Green 2nds out for 146 at Smithywood Road, and Daniel Ravenscroft (50) and Elliot Mann (53) set leaders Wombwell Main on their way to a six-wicket win with an opening stand of 113, that keeps them 14 points clear at the top. Sajid Hussain (61) and Vishnu Ajith (55) helped second-placed Waverley to 239 all out at home to Penistone 2nds; then Amrithesh Uppumtharamel (5-27) and Vishnu das Devadas (4-18) bowled them to a 124-run win. Six points further back are Hatfield Town 2nds, who bowled Sheffield Collegiate 4ths out for 97, Shehzad Hussain taking 4-22; then completed a seven-wicket win in the 23rd over. Silkstone United made a fine start to their game with Warmsworth 2nds at Common Lane when Joseph Atkinson (54) and William Clegg (79) put on 111 for their second wicket, but after that, Oliver Wolsey took 5-62 and they were all out for 191; opener Kevin Pearson then made 63 for the home side, and they completed a three-wicket win, despite the efforts of Lee White (4-40). Agneya Kaushal (77) led Hallam 3rds to 177-9 against Maltby Miners Welfare at Sandygate, then Aashman Arora (5-55) and Narender Manohar (5-40) combined to bowl the visitors out for 148 in reply. Simon White took 5-25 for Barnby Dun to help them bowl Millhouses Works 2nds out for 166 at Millhouses Park, then opener Ben Salter (87 not out) and Ajay Budana (48 not out), with an unbroken fifth wicket stand of 108 after they had been 60-4, led the visitors to their first win of the season. 

 

 

Atif Qayyum (4-21) helped unbeaten leaders Sheffield Centralians to bowl bottom side Handsworth out for 121 at Olive Grove; Amjid Khan (66 not out) then led them to a six-wicket win. 36 points adrift of the leaders are Parkhead 2nds, for whom Nazam Mohammed made 69 on their way to 209-8 against Conisbrough 2nds at Park Lane, Adam Winder taking 4-60 for the home side; then Toby Humphries made 50 in reply but they were all out for 147. Harry Poskitt (61) helped Fishlake to 200-7 away to Scholes & Harley, who were all out for 161 in reply. Fishlake are still in contention for promotion, ten points behind Parkhead. Curtis Coles (73 not out) and Satvir Singh (102 off 67 balls) rescued Green Moor from 56-4 with a fifth-wicket stand of 160 and they totalled 250-7 away to Sheffield Caribbean 2nds, for whom Raheem Abbas took 4-43; the home side were then all out for 155 in reply. Khalil Khan (59) and an unbroken last wicket partnership of 43 between Badiul Jamil and Tawqeer Hussain took Sheffield United 2nds to 209-9 away to Whiston Parish Church 2nds; Basharat Ali (59) and Yaya Ahmad (106 off 98 balls) then added 103 for the second wicket in the home side’s seven-wicket win. 

 

 

Leaders Stocksbridge 2nds returned to winning ways with a straightforward win over Darfield 2nds at Bracken Moor; Rowan Brearley took 4-23 when the visitors were bowled out for 87, Joel Wilkinson playing a lone hand with 48, then the leaders completed a nine-wicket win in the 16th over. Joint-second Higham 2nds put last week’s defeat behind them after Alex Jervis took 4-17 to help them bowl Doncaster Town 4ths out for 128; then Jak Rennison made 56 in their three-wicket win. Wombwell Main 2nds are level with Higham, 26 points behind the leaders, and they bowled Houghton Main 2nds out for 174 before forties from opener Keith Lambert and Adam Wallace steered them to a two-wicket win, Mujeburahman Safi taking 4-45 for Houghton. Rockingham Colliery 3rds were bowled out for 88 away to Mexborough Athletic, Ryan Linney recording 7-4-6-4; but Athletic did not have matters all their own way in completing a four-wicket win. Opener Leah Holland made an unbeaten 68 in Bradfield Village Fellowship 2nds’ 136 all out against Adwick-le-Street; then forties from skipper Matthew Eades and Matthew Cumpsty took Adwick to a seven-wicket win. 

 

 

Leaders Sheffield Medics maintained their 32-point advantage at the top of the division when they bowled Sheffield Centralians 2nds out for 64, Sarmad Masood taking 4-17, and then completed a seven-wicket win in the 18th over. Second-placed Coal Aston 3rds made 142 all out at home to Wickersley Old Village 3rds, Tom Joshi taking 4-36, and the visitors were all out for 94 in reply. Allama Iqbal made 138 all out away to Sheffield Transport, with Rohith Thirunganahalli taking 4-37; the home side were then all out for 114 in reply. Forties from Ashok Nagamanickam and Pavan Gannerla helped Sheffield Superkings to 121 all out against The Chronicles England, who were then all out for 85 in reply, Guhan Marimuthu taking 6-34. Nandha Krishnamoorthy’s 83 helped Norton Woodseats 2nds post 178-6 away to Brookhouse; then Jhangir Ahmed took 5-33 when the home side were all out for 90 in reply. 

 

 

Frickley Colliery 2nds and Eden Madras Parklands are still separated by just two points at the top of the division, and they are 30 clear of the rest. The former bowled Sprotbrough 3rds out for 31, Corey Hawkesworth taking 6-16, then beat them by ten wickets. Eden Madras racked up 293-5 away to bottom side Worsbrough Bridge 2nds, with Lokesh Ramakrishna making 117 off 125 balls and Peter Rayan and Ajai Sugumaran each contributing 47; Alan Littlewood made 66 in Bridge’s reply, but they fell well short on 156-9. Aaron Sleight (93) and Jacob Barnes (50) put on 151 for the first wicket when Pledwick 2nds made 182-3 away to third-placed West Bretton 2nds, for whom Curtis Gates made 73 when they completed a seven-wicket win. Monk Bretton 2nds bowled Hallam 4ths out for 92 at the Castle Ground on their way to an eight-wicket win in the 26th over. Barnsley Woolley Miners 4ths conceded against Upper Haugh 3rds. 

 

 

Mohammed Ayaz made 42 in Sheffield Spartans’ 174 all out at home to Hallam 5ths, for whom Nic Wheen took 4-38; and the visitors were all out for 77 in reply. Josh Thompson took 4-21 when De la Salle were restricted to 95-6 at home to Norton Oakes 2nds, for whom Rob Drinkwater made an unbeaten 48 in their six-wicket win. Sheffield Collegiate 5ths conceded to Elsecar 3rds. On Sunday, Thorncliffe & Wentworth 2nds made 181 all out against De la Salle at Lound Side; Matthew Shuttleworth (101 of 104 balls) then guided the visitors to a two-wicket win. 

 

 

Leaders Sheffield University Staff 2nds remain unbeaten; their latest win coming away to Fishlake 2nds, joint second at start of play, against whom they made 178-3 with skipper Ciaran Hanvey unbeaten on 55. The Staff then bowled their hosts out for 148, with the only real resistance coming from Jude Hubbard (57). Dearne remain very much in the promotion frame after their win over Silkstone United 2nds at Barnsley Road; Scott Hardman (50) and John Buckle (46) guided the visitors to 226-9, then they restricted their hosts to 194-7, of which Thomas Winter made 59. Eden Madras Parklands 2nds bowled Mexborough Athletic 2nds out for 72, Jamie Bunn taking 5-15; then completing a five-wicket win in the 17th over. Wath 3rds conceded against second-placed Kexborough 2nds and Sprotbrough 4ths conceded to Higham 3rds. 

 

 

Skipper Cameron McLean made 55 for leaders Whiston Forge 2nds in their 134 all out at home to Richmond, for whom Sainath Gunderapu took 4-21; Andy Smith then took 4-21 when the visitors were all out for 50 in reply. Second-placed Coal Aston 4ths are now 20 points behind the leaders after slipping to defeat against Sheffield University Staff 3rds at Great Longstone. Anthevan Marchio top-scored with 41 in the Staff’s 183-9, then skipper Andrew Liptrot made 61 in the visitors’ reply, but they fell well short of their target on 112-9. Opener Ben Shirt Clarkson made 124 off 117 balls to help Frecheville Community 2nds to 263-5 against Tickhill 3rds at Worksop College; Lucas Young (105 not out off 116 balls) and skipper James Mortimore (68 not out) put on an unbroken 138 for the fourth wicket when the visitors replied, but they fell 61 short on 202-3. Zoubin Jackson took 4-17 when Hallam 6ths bowled Scholes & Harley 2nds out for 108 at Birkdale School; then an unbeaten 50 from Sean White took Hallam to a five-wicket win.
