Round-up of league & cup games played on 20 & 21 June

More good weather enabled another full programme of league and cup games over a busy weekend. Sheffield Collegiate strengthened their lead at the top of the Premier Division as the opening Saturday’s games were reversed. 

 

 

Waqar Hussain (57) top-scored in Wakefield Thornes’ 205-9 at home to leaders Sheffield Collegiate, who were then steered to a four-wicket win by Abdul Faseeh (69) and Ben Mason (82), who shared a fourth wicket stand of 119, and Collegiate are now 18 points clear at the top. Second-placed Cleethorpes lost ground on the leaders after being put in to bat by their nearest challengers, Cawthorne, at Dark Lane. Kabir Kohli took 4-67 when the visitors were bowled out for 218, Alex Osmond their top-scorer with 49. Cawthorne then recovered from 54-4 with a fifth-wicket stand of 113 between Joseph Heyes (50) and Kade Fletcher (73 not out), and they won with ten overs to spare; Josh Knapton (5-55) took all five wickets that fell. Ross Diver (87) and Connor Fisher (49 not out) were the top run-scorers in Tickhill’s 235-6 against Doncaster Town at the Brookfield Oval; Liam Johnson then took 4-45 when the visitors were bowled out for 160 in reply. Level with Tickhill in fourth place are Whitley Hall, who restricted visitors Whiston Parish Church to 196-7 at Baxter Field, Bhargav Merai making 50 and Mark Cummins 61 not out; in reply, James Moorhouse (67) and Matt Cartwright (59) put on an opening stand of 116 in the home side’s eight-wicket win. Mayank Mishra (63) and Hamzah Younis (50) helped Wickersley Old Village reach 201 all out against Sprotbrough at Melton Road, Parteek Khasa taking 5-40 for the hosts; then Ibrahim Safi took 4-25 when Sprotbrough were all out for 137 in reply. Matt Morland contributed a vital 49 in Appleby Frodingham’s 192 all out at home to bottom side Hallam, for whom Arjith Ravi took 4-40; and the visitors then fell just ten short in reply, despite Andre Bradford’s 85. 

 

 

Leaders Ackworth slipped to a surprise defeat away to Upper Haugh. Bilal Hanif (73) and Connor Sanderson (58) put on 108 for the home side’s fourth wicket in their 240-5; then there were four wickets each for Parvez Asghar and Habil Arshad when Ackworth were all out for 187 in reply. After skipper Luke Townsend (62) and Sam Swindin had put on 103 for the visitors’ first wicket, seven wickets fell for 23 as they collapsed to 126-7. Second-placed Barnsley Woolley Miners took full advantage of Ackworth’s slip-up by winning away at Shiregreen, thus narrowing the gap to the leaders to four points. Ali Zaryab (57) top-scored in the visitors’ 174 all out, Muhammad Rameez taking 4-25; then Boeta Beukes followed up his first innings 44 with 5-30 and Shiregreen were all out for 116 in reply. Elsecar, in third place, had a convincing win over Sheffield Collegiate 2nds at Abbeydale. Chasing their hosts’ 166-7, Elsecar reached their target with seven wickets and 16 overs to spare, thanks largely to Tom Bradley’s 80. Fifties from Stan Ashton and Ollie Wainwright helped Aston Hall to 294-7 against Coal Aston at Green Lane, and the visitors fell 29 short on 265 all out in reply, Daniel Hemingway top-scoring with 51. Hernus Marais took 4-43 for Tickhill 2nds when they bowled Doncaster Town 2nds out for 152 at the Spinks ground; then opener James Waller put his side on the road to a six-wicket win with 64. Rockingham Colliery gained their first win of the season when they played Oughtibridge War Memorial at Hoyland Common. Jory Bannister (86) and Lewis Upton (50) added 96 for the Colliery’s fourth wicket in their 242-7; and they bowled their visitors out for 179 in reply. 

 

 

Four wickets each from Jake Marshall and Kyle Humphrys helped unbeaten leaders Warmsworth bowl Treeton out for 136 at Common Lane; then Liam Cottam made 52 in the home side’s seven-wicket win. Second-placed Wath had a very impressive win over their nearest challengers, Conisbrough, for whom skipper Joe Farmer top-scored with 56 at the top of the order in their 184-9, Syed Shah taking 4-47 for the visitors; then Jason van Dyk (106 not out off 109 balls) and Shah (73 not out) shared an unbroken second wicket stand of 185 and Wath won with nine wickets and 17 overs to spare. Rehan Khan took 4-11 for Whitley Hall 2nds when they bowled Houghton Main out for 119 at Middlecliffe Lane; then Alex Littlewood made an unbeaten 60 in the visitors’ seven-wicket win. Ashley Clayton (55) and Chris Schofield (111) put on 109 for Monk Bretton’s second wicket in their 318-7 against West Bretton at the Castle Ground, Kyle Clayton taking 5-80 for the visitors; then Steven Honeyman took 8-43 when the visitors were bowled out for 125 in reply. Second-to-bottom Parkhead were 147-7 at home to Cawthorne 2nds when Mubasher Ali (86 not out) and Chris Millard put on an unbroken stand of 105 to lift them to 252-7; Zeeshan Ahmed then took 4-53 when the visitors were bowled out for 208 in reply. Frickley Colliery bowled bottom side Wickersley Old Village 2nds out for 155 at the Beerpig Oval, Jake Taberner taking 4-52; then Jordan Bowers then made an unbeaten 73 off 50 balls when the visitors completed a six-wicket win. 

 

 

Six points cover the top four sides, after leaders Norton Woodseats were beaten at the Al-Murad Stadium. Oliver Blackburn made 50 in Elsecar 2nds’ 187-9, with Blake Stocks and Tomas Travis taking four wickets each; then Richard Stump took 5-35 when the visitors were all out for 140 in reply. Luke Proffitt made 50 for second-placed Sheffield Collegiate 3rds when they were all out for 150 at home to Aston Hall 2nds; but the visitors were then all out for 103 in reply and Collegiate returned to the top. In joint third place are Norton Oakes, who squeezed home in a tight game at Penistone. Replying to the home side’s 150 all out, Oakes had to rely on their last pair to get them over the line, with 12 needed when they came together, Chris Walmsley taking 4-16 for Penistone. Forties from openers Andrew Clayton and Freddie Egginton gave joint-third Barnsley Woolley Miners 2nds a good start on their way to 259-7 at home Wakefield Thornes 2nds, for whom Kamran Hussain took 4-55; then opener Harley Cushan made 68 when the visitors replied, but they fell 91 short on 178 all out. Ashley Reynolds’ 4-28 helped Thorpe Hesley & High Green bowl Hatfield Town out for 129 at Carr Side Lane; then opener Haroon Zafar made 50 in the home side’s seven-wicket win. Nathaniel Dingle took 4-37 for bottom side Hallam 2nds when they bowled Millhouses Works out for 125 at Crimicar; then John O’Sullivan took 4-42 to help the visitors complete a seven-run win. 

 

 

Frecheville Community now lead the division by ten points after a comprehensive win over Sprotbrough 2nds at the Hobson Bowl. Daniel Kempton (68) and Ashan Lakmal (111 off 92 balls) put on 140 for the hosts’ second wicket in their 290-3; then David Ratcliffe took 4-29 when the visitors were bowled out for 96 in reply. Previous leaders Coal Aston 2nds had Darfield 119-7 at Stonelow, then skipper Jordan Watson (62) lifted his side to 191 all out; there were then four wickets each for Nathan Kitchen and Ashley Potter when Coal Aston were all out for 104 in reply. Higham kept themselves in the promotion hunt when they bowled Shiregreen 2nds out for 144 at Royd Lane; then Glen Burden (86 not out) and Paul Wroe took them to a ten-wicket win. Andrew Lintin took 6-55 for Upper Haugh 2nds to help them bowl Worsbrough Bridge out for 168 at the Warm Roofs ground; then the visitors completed a four-wicket win in just 27 overs. Rockingham Colliery 2nds bowled Oughtibridge War Memorial 2nds out for 191 at Waterside Gardens, opener Joseph Boyden (58) top-scoring for the hosts; then William King (65) set the Colliery on their way to a six-wicket win. The bottom two met at Moor Road, where Junaid Abbas (60) and skipper Zabe Javed (61) gave Sheffield United a good start with an opening stand of 112, and Harris Golrez weighed in with 58 as they posted 244-7 against Wath 2nds; Jonathan Plater and Joe Wainwright then both made 60 when Wath replied, but they ended 36 short on 208-7. 

 

 

Safiullah Ahmadzai made 55 for bottom side Barnsley Woolley Miners 3rds in their 185-7 against leaders Thorncliffe & Wentworth at Woolley; then visiting skipper Connor Brunt was unbeaten on 86, adding an unbroken 105-run second wicket partnership with Liam Page, when Thorncliffe completed a nine-wicket win. Sheffield University Staff are six points behind the leaders, and they made a daunting 326-4 against Doncaster Town 3rds at Blaxton, Sabeethan Kasagasingham (91) and Sam Kular (63) leading the way; the home side were then all out for 151 in reply. Two further points behind are Whiston Forge, who had a much narrower win, this over Bradfield Village Fellowship at Guilthwaite Hill. Skipper Liam Hague (57) led the visitors to 160 all out; then Forge edged home by two wickets with three overs to spare. Fourth-placed Stocksbridge are still in the promotion hunt, and they had Kexborough 64-8 before Rob Mynett helped them up to 172 all out with an unbeaten 66; Neil Hinchliffe then took 4-39 but Stocksbridge got home with three wickets and three overs left. An unbeaten 123 off 133 balls from opener Dave Harris, who shared in a third wicket stand of 117 with Alex Clemo (61), saw Ackworth 2nds post 250-4 at home to Sheffield Caribbean, who were all out for 126 in reply, Arran Taylor taking 4-15. Dom Greenwood took 5-22 for Pledwick when they bowled Treeton 2nds out for 100 at Washfield Lane, and the visitors completed a four-wicket win with eight overs remaining. 

 

 

Leaders Wombwell Main made 217-8 at home to Penistone 2nds, opener Kev Linney top-scoring with 49, and the visitors reached 174-8 in reply, skipper Marcus Hoyland contributing 50. Second-placed Sheffield Collegiate 4ths made quick work of bottom side Barnby Dun at Glass Park, bowling them out for 46 and knocking off the required runs for no loss in 14 overs. Opener Oliver Quinn made 53 for Maltby Miners Welfare in their 146-5 against third-placed Silkstone United at Muglet Lane; then Daniel Walker (102 not out off 88 balls) led the visitors to a four-wicket win. Hatfield Town 2nds drop a place to fourth after they were bowled out for 119 by Thorpe Hesley & High Green 2nds at Smithywood Road, Alex Sunderland taking 4-32; then an unbeaten 42 from Chris Fisher took Thorpe Hesley to a five-wicket win after they had been 31-4. Jude Joseph (53) and Sajid Hussain (85) helped Waverley to 241 all out against Hallam 3rds at Sandygate, and the home side were all out for 150 in reply. Sanket Amin made 58 in Warmsworth 2nds’ 199 all out away to Millhouses Works 2nds, for whom Ted Murray took 4-61; then the hosts were all out for 118 in reply. 

 

 

Adeeb Khan (49) helped unbeaten leaders Sheffield Centralians to make a competitive 171 after being 82-5, Kai Brown taking 4-22 for visitors Scholes & Harley; then Atif Qayyum took 5-32 and Scholes were all out for 66. Second-placed Fishlake bowled Sheffield United 2nds out for 123 at Bawtry Road; then an unbeaten 73 from Harry Poskitt steered the visitors to an eight-wicket win, but they are still 30 points behind Centralians. Parkhead 2nds dropped further behind after being bowled out for 133 by Green Moor at Hill Top Lane, Satvir Singh taking 4-30; opener Scott Jones then made 54 and Green Moor completed a four-wicket win. Shadab Ahmed took 4-11 when Whiston Parish Church 2nds bowled Conisbrough 2nds out for 116 at Church Fields; then forties from Scott Wilson and Basharat Ali at the top of the order helped the home side to an eight-wicket win. Addison Senior (50) and James Needham (72 not out) were in the runs for Wadworth in their 191-3; Needham (4-26) and Gareth Hobson (5-49) then bowled bottom club Handsworth out for 81 in reply. Sheffield Caribbean 2nds restricted Whitley Hall 3rds to 128-9 and beat them by six wickets. 

 

 

Leaders Stocksbridge 2nds preserved their eight-point lead at the top after making 197-8 at home to Wombwell Main 2nds; Rowan Cogger then took 4-27 and the visitors were all out for 136 in reply. Higham 2nds kept pace with the leaders after Richard Heeley’s 54 helped them to 158-9 against Rockingham Colliery 3rds at Stainborough; opener Adam Cummins made 52 in the Colliery’s reply, but Steven Vickers took 5-29 and they fell 19 short on 139-7. Jonathan Guest took 6-41 for Mexborough Athletic, who bowled Adwick-le-Street out for 97 at the Beecroft Estates ground, and they completed a seven-wicket win in the 26th over. Darfield 2nds conceded to Houghton Main 2nds; and Doncaster Town 4ths conceded to Bradfield Village Fellowship 2nds. 

 

 

Sheffield Medics preserved their 18-point lead at the top by comfortably beating Norton Woodseats 2nds at Matthews Lane; opener Devraj Sarma (82) got the visitors off to a good start and Arun Urs, with an unbeaten 53, took them to 205-4, before Hafiz Umar (5-38) got to work and helped bowl the home side out for 119 in reply. Second-placed Coal Aston 3rds kept pace with the narrowest possible win over Sheffield Transport at Meadowhead. William Ross took 5-12 when the hosts made 104-8 in their 40 overs; then Coal Aston owed their one-wicket win off the last ball to Stan Bingley, who made 27 at number nine. Zahid Momand took 4-17 for Allama Iqbal when they bowled Wickersley Old Village 3rds out for 54 and beat them by six wickets. Forties from Jamie Elliott and Fida Hussain helped Brookhouse to 212 all out against Sheffield Superkings, who were bowled out for 136 in reply. Sheffield Centralians 2nds made 139-8 away to for The Chronicles England, for whom skipper Justus George then made 51 to help them to a two-wicket win. 

 

 

Leaders Frickley Colliery 2nds made it ten out of ten at home to Monk Bretton 2nds, whom they bowled out for 47, Jack Horobin taking 5-10, and they then completed a nine-wicket win in the eleventh over. Eden Madras Parklands maintained pace with the leaders when they entertained Hallam 4ths at Parklands, where Laurie Wildman made 49 in the visitors’ 165-7; then Jonathan Prescott took 4-35 when Parklands replied, but they were led to a four-wicket win by Lee Chandran (55 not out). Chris Reece took 5-31 when West Bretton 2nds bowled Barnsley Woolley Miners 4ths out for 148 at Park Lane; then John Hubery was 66 not out when the home side completed a six-wicket win. Upper Haugh 3rds recovered from 41-6 to reach 190-8 away to Pledwick 2nds, thanks to Calvin Plummer (70 not out); the hosts were then all out for 76 in reply, Plummer completing a fine all-round game by taking the last four wickets at a personal cost of one run in 15 balls. 

 

 

Unbeaten leaders Waverley 2nds march on with skipper Midhum Moham contributing 61 to their 210-9 at home to Handsworth 2nds, who were all out for 103 in reply. Forties from Waqar Husain and Malik Azam set fourth-placed Sheffield Spartans on their way to a formidable 241-7, Aqeel Ahmad weighing in with an unbeaten 66; then skipper Joshua Gillgrass made 123 when Sheffield Collegiate 5ths replied, but Shabir Ali returned 6-3-7-5 and Collegiate fell 17 short on 224 all out. Brothers Ben (81) and Adam (96) Thorpe put on 186 for Norton Oakes 2nds’ fourth wicket in their 277-7 at home to Sheffield Transport 2nds, who were all out for 93 in reply. 

 

 

Unbeaten leaders Sheffield University Staff 2nds bowled Kexborough 2nds out for 68, then eased to an eight-wicket win in 18 overs. 12 points behind the leaders are Fishlake 2nds, for whom Jude Hubbard took 6-10 and Simon Waites 4-10 when they bowled Sprotbrough 4ths out for 31 at Pinfold Lane; the hosts then cruised to a nine-wicket win in four overs. Ben Whitehouse (66) led the way for Dearne when they made 237-7 against Mexborough Athletic 2nds at Furlong Road; Agam Gill was 50 not out when Athletic replied, but Archie Gamwell took 4-38 and they were all out for 141. Higham 3rds bowled Wath 3rds out for 64 at Thurgoland; then they completed an eight wicket win in 17 overs. 

 

 

Coal Aston 4ths maintained 16-point lead at the top after beating Frecheville Community 2nds at Stonelow. Lenny Sunderland made 95 in the home side’s 188-9; then James Sinclair took 4-20 when Frecheville were bowled out for 118 in reply. Srikar Pattipati top-scored with 54 in Sheffield University Staff 3rds’ 199-9 against Hallam 6ths at Birkdale School; then Parag Wate took 4-31 when the home side were all out for 115 in reply. Daniel Rose was unbeaten on 50 in Whiston Forge 2nds’ 198-4 against De la Salle 2nds at Beauchief, and Michael Raleigh took 4-14 to help the visitors restrict De la Salle out to 109-9 in reply. Risbah Verma (66) was the main contributor to Richmond’s 222-9 against Oughtibridge War Memorial 3rds at Wentworth; Benjamin Tyers made 68 when the home side replied, but they finished 25 short on 197-7. 

On Sunday, Isa Rasool took 4-16 for Oughtibridge War Memorial 3rds when they bowled De la Salle 2nds out for 162 at Wentworth, Phil Hall contributing 54 for the visitors; then forties from Marcus Burley and Abubakr Rasool took Oughtibridge to an eight-wicket win in the 24th over.
