Round-up of League & Cup games played on 15 & 16 August

As a result of Saturday’s games, our congratulations go to Ackworth, Warmsworth, Sheffield Centralians, Waverley 2nds and Sheffield University Staff 2nds on achieving promotion for 2027. 

 

 

Sheffield Collegiate suffered their first defeat of the season when they lost their last seven wickets for 35 and fell 34 short of their 203 target to beat Doncaster Town. Earlier, Andrew Parkin-Coates (51) and Taylor Fell (61) had added 104 for the home side’s third wicket in their 202-7; then forties from Jack Timby and Sheryaar Ali put Collegiate in a good position before Rory Daburger and Harsha Rajapaksha initiated a collapse with three wickets each. Collegiate are still 22 points ahead of Cleethorpes, who had the better of a low-scoring game at Field Lane; Josh Knapton took 7-35 when Wakefield Thornes were bowled out for 97; then the visitors were indebted to an unbeaten 40 from Jordan Cook to get them over the line with four wickets and 17 overs to spare. Tickhill moved up into third place with a straightforward win over bottom side Whiston Parish Church at the Brookfield Oval; Bilal Afzal top-scored for the visitors when they were bowled out for 187, then an unbeaten 87 from Connor Fisher took Tickhill to a five-wicket win with 13 overs to spare. Cawthorne, third at the start, slipped to defeat away to relegation-battlers Sprotbrough after Nicky Graves took 5-39 to restrict them to 200-8 after being put in to bat; Sprotborough looked in trouble at 89-7 in reply, Kabir Kohli taking 4-55, but Parteek Khasa (77*) and Daniel Wright (46) added 97 for the eighth wicket to set up an invaluable two-wicket win for their side. Fellow relegation battlers Hallam put up a spirited fight against Whitley Hall at Crimicar but their task proved just too much. James Moorhouse (67), Matt Cartwright (54) and Neil Longhurst (65) gave the visitors a great start after being put in to bat, and they posted 262-7; Andre Bradford (102 off 126 balls) led Hallam’s reply, but Muhammad Ashraf took 4-76 and they ended 17 short on 245-8. Appleby Frodingham skipper Alex Grimes (127 off 140) was another centurion, helping his side to a great start against Wickersley Old Village, sharing an opening stand of 157 with Liam Sylvester (72); in response to the hosts’ 266-3, the visitors were all out for 190, with 61 from Gareth Purshouse, and five wickets for Kieran Lindley to add to his 48 with the bat. 

 

 

Leaders Ackworth confirmed their anticipated promotion with a comprehensive win at home to lowly Doncaster Town 2nds. Dale Longfield (4-26) and Luke Townsend (4-22) helped bowl the visitors out for 70, before Ackworth raced to a nine-wicket win in the eleventh over. Second-placed Barnsley Woolley Miners had an equally convincing win, at Waterside Gardens, where they bowled bottom side Oughtibridge War Memorial out for 80, and William Chapman was then unbeaten on 47 in a ten-wicket win completed inside ten overs. Elsecar lost ground in third after being bowled out for 131 by Upper Haugh at Wentworth Road; Parvez Asghar took 5-19 for the hosts, who were 53-6 in reply before Habil Arshad and Leo Irwin made unbeaten thirties to take their side to a four-wicket win. Aston Hall missed the chance to move up to third, despite the fact that Muhammad Khan (108 off 154) and Declan Ward (56) put them in a good position with a third-wicket stand of 135 against Sheffield Collegiate 2nds at Abbeydale; Louie Owens led the hosts’ response to Aston’s 234-8 with 101 off 123 balls and Benjamin Carrington helped him add 116 for the third wicket in Collegiate’s three-wicket win. Of the three teams pursuing the leaders, Shiregreen are probably the form side; Omar Shinwari took 5-53 to help them bowl Coal Aston out for 168, then forties from Manavkumar Dave and Mohammad Khan saw them to a three-wicket win. Four wickets each from William Dooling and Lasith Lakshan helped relegation battlers Rockingham Colliery bowl out Tickhill 2nds for 83; Ben Dalton was then unbeaten on 47 in their ten-wicket win. 

 

 

Another expected promotion was confirmed when leaders Warmsworth completed a comfortable win over Monk Bretton at the Castle Ground; James Loveridge (85) and Kyle Humphrys (80) added 121 for the third wicket in the visitors’ 271-8, and they bowled Monk Bretton out for 171 in reply, of which Jenson Hayes contributed 60. Second-placed Wath have a 26-point cushion between themselves and the third side, Whitley Hall 2nds, after beating Houghton Main at Middlecliff Lane. Syed Shah (107 off 111 balls) led the visitors to 262-7; Shadab Khan then made 73 in Houghton’s reply, but they were all out for 216, Shah completing a brilliant all-round performance with 5-42. Skipper Sam Chatterton made 64 in Whitley Hall 2nds’ 226 all out at home to Frickley Colliery, for whom Jordan Bowers took 4-24; Ibrahim Shakil then took 4-29 when the visitors were all out for 117 in reply. George Charnock hit 80 off 79 balls for Cawthorne 2nds in their 211 all out at home to Conisbrough; Harry Airstone then took 5-53 and the visitors were all out nine short on 202. Nazam Mohammed (68) and Adil Nasim (73) added 115 for the third wicket in Parkhead’s 281 all out at home to West Bretton, for whom Callum Bailey took 6-68; Chris Turner took 6-28 when the visitors replied, and they were all out for 132. Opener Haider Raja carried his bat for an unbeaten 73 in Wickersley Old Village 2nds’ 168 all out at home to Treeton; long-serving opener Steve Foster then made 75 in the visitors’ three-wicket win. 

 

 

Leaders Norton Oakes edged to a three-wicket win in their local derby with Norton Woodseats at Oakes Park, after bowling their visitors out for 147, out of which James Eyre was the game's top scorer with 43. Thorpe Hesley & High Green lost ground on the leaders and are now 18 points behind after four wickets each from Jack Meek and Ben Askey saw them bowled out for 151 at Queen Street; Anthony Godley (47) then led Penistone to a seven-wicket win and they are now just two points adrift of Thorpe Hesley, who occupy the second promotion place. A further two points behind are Sheffield Collegiate 3rds, who beat relegation battlers Wakefield Thornes 2nds at Abbeydale. Harley Cushan (58) and Jonathan Scott were the main run-scorers in Thornes’ 176 all out, whilst Ben Fielding took 4-39; Daniel Craig (75*) then spearheaded Collegiate’s seven wicket win. Luke Cockburn took 4-46 for Hatfield Town when they bowled out another struggling side, Aston Hall 2nds, for 185; Joshua Hartfield (77*) and skipper David Barrett (66*) then took Hatfield to a seven-wicket win with an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 151. Skipper Callum Johnson made 64 in Elsecar 2nds’ 172-9 at home to Millhouses Works, for whom Stanley Stewart took 6-41; Works were 39-5 in reply before Callum Sampson (55) turned the game around, and they gained a one-wicket win, thanks to an unbroken last-wicket stand of 46 between Samuel Bird and Joseph Thake. Ollie Chapman Stott (66) was the main contributor to Barnsley Woolley Miners 2nds’ 193 all out at home to bottom side Hallam 2nds, for whom Humphrey Emery took 5-54; Jack Unwin (60) and Emery (53) put on 93 for the visitors’ third wicket, but their side fell just two runs short on 191 all out in their reply. 

 

 

Fifties from William Ross and skipper Richard Mintoft took leaders Coal Aston 2nds to 232 all out at home to Shiregreen 2nds; Sam Hudson then took 6-32 and the visitors were all out for 163 in reply, despite late defiance from skipper Afzaal Ahmed (50 off 29 balls). Andrew Lintin took 4-38 when second-placed Frecheville Community were all out for 159 at home to Upper Haugh 2nds, Joal Wake top-scoring with 47; then Adam Buckle (6-50) and Mat Dexter (4-11) bowled the visitors out for 89 in reply. Frecheville are now 20 points behind the leaders but ten ahead of Darfield, who were well beaten by Oughtibridge War Memorial 2nds at School Street. Skipper Richard Everitt made 61 at the top of the order in the visitors’ 190 all out, whilst Saman Kursheed took 4-63; then Sam Patel took 4-11 when Darfield lost their last six wickets for 17 and were all out for 127 in reply. Callum Bentley (68) and Joe McLee (50) helped Worsbrough Bridge to 186-9 against Higham at Royd Lane; then Ryan Bagshaw hit an unbeaten 78 to take his side to a five-wicket win. There were four wickets apiece for Zakariya Farouk and Alan Lockwoood when Rockingham Colliery 2nds bowled relegated Wath 2nds out for 110; Ekambir Singh was then unbeaten on 51 in the Colliery’s eight-wicket win. Sheffield United came out on top in a game between two relegation battlers at Bawtry Road; Khurram Shahzad took 4-39 when Sprotbrough 2nds were bowled out for 170, despite Rocco Cook’s 73; then Asjad Shah made 79 in United’s four-wicket win. 

 

 

Stocksbridge lost top spot when they slipped to defeat at Washfield Lane after posting 236 all out against Treeton 2nds, Joe Hibbert top-scoring with 45 and Jack Ward taking 4-55; Robbie Broomhead then swept the hosts to a six-wicket win with a brilliant unbeaten 123 off 136 balls. Whiston Forge were 78-9 at home to fellow promotion challengers Thorncliffe & Wentworth before Owen Struggles (59*) and Josh Cooke added 80 for the last wicket to take them to 158 all out; Struggles then completed a top all-round performance with 4-25 when the visitors were bowled out for 59 in reply, and Forge returned to the top of the table. Alex Clemo (103 off 119 balls) and Arran Taylor (70) propelled Ackworth 2nds to 249-7 away to Kexborough, for whom Matty Bowering took four wickets; Karl Buxton then took 4-51 and the hosts were all out for 187 in reply, to move Ackworth up to third. Sheffield University Staff are still in the promotion hunt after a win over relegation-threatened Bradfield Village Fellowship at the Sands; replying to the hosts’ 159-8 the visitors were 5-3, then 42-4, but Bhavika Koliyabandara (54) pulled the Staff back into the game and they edged to a three-wicket win. Two sides in the relegation zone met at Blaxton, where Mark Lockwood helped Doncaster Town 3rds to 201-4, and Joe Horrocks took 4-35 when Sheffield Caribbean were bowled out for 161 in reply. Chris Stott and Liam Margison made fifties for relegated Barnsley Woolley Miners 3rds in their 201 away to Pledwick, for whom Harry Lynch took 5-47; the hosts were then dismissed for 161 in reply. 

 

 

Ben Reeves took 5-24 for leaders Wombwell Main when they bowled Warmsworth 2nds out for 106 on their way to a seven-wicket win that maintains their 14-point lead at the top. Second-placed Waverley were bowled out for 119 away to third side Hatfield Town 2nds, Shehzad Hussain taking 4-27; Jerin Varghese then recorded 8-2-6-6-8 when Hatfield were bowled out for 83 in reply. Promotion hopefuls Penistone 2nds were bowled out for 169 by Thorpe Hesley & High Green 2nds at Smithywood Road, only Marcus Hoyland offering much resistance with 66; Iain MacDonald (67) and Chris Fisher (52*) then set up the home side’s seven-wicket win. Opener Harry Spence made a fine 81 for Hallam 3rds against Sheffield Collegiate 4ths at Sandygate, Jack Longley taking 4-21 for the visitors, who then completed a six-wicket win with fifties from Charlie Wall and Richard Mathewson. Silkstone United bowled Millhouses Works 2nds out for 126 at Millhouses Park, with Callum Gray taking 4-27; the visitors then struggled against a six-man attack in reply, but edged over the line by one wicket. Husnain Malik (51) top-scored for Maltby Miners Welfare in their 251 all out at home to relegated Barnby Dun, for whom Githin Kurian took 4-53; and the visitors were then bowled out for 130 in reply. 

 

 

Leaders Sheffield Centralians confirmed their promotion by beating nearest challengers Parkhead 2nds after being 28-4 when put in to bat, but Rabnawaz Khan (65) helped them to reach 142 all out; they then bowled Parkhead out for 118 in reply, Harrison Vinall providing most resistance with 46. Scott Jones’ 89 was the backbone of Green Moor’s 235-8 away to Handsworth, who were all out for 126 in reply, James Christopherson taking 4-26 to keep his side in contention 12 points behind Parkhead. Fishlake kept their slim promotion hopes alive with a comprehensive win over Whiston Parish Church 2nds at Church Fields; Jacob Meehan (109 off 124 balls) took the visitors to 243-7, and they then bowled Whiston out for 126 in reply. Khalid Rehman hit 140 off 95 balls in Sheffield Caribbean 2nds’ 264-8 at home to Wadworth, who were all out for 126 in reply, Rehmann again the star of the show with 5-23. Two clubs battling relegation met at Park Road, where Scholes & Harley were bowled out for 166 by Conisbrough 2nds, Mark Newbould making 71 whilst Tom Humphries took 4-23; Jake Panting then took 6-16 when the home side were bowled out for 94 in reply. Joshua Dobson made 63 in bottom side Whitley Hall 3rds’ 176-7 against Sheffield United 2nds at Green Moor, then Khalil Khan (64) led the visitors to a seven-wicket win in quick time. On Sunday, Wadworth kept their noses above the relegation zone by beating Whitley Hall 3rds at Baxter Field; Josh Singleton made 52 in the hosts’ 172-8, then Addison Senior (72*) led Wadworth to a seven-wicket win. 

 

 

Leaders Stocksbridge 2nds were given a fright by Houghton Main 2nds at Bracken Moor; after they had bowled their visitors out for 127, they lost eight wickets before knocking off the required runs. Second-placed Higham 2nds made 175 all out at home to Adwick-le-Street before Alex Jervis took 8-19 to bowl the visitors out for 53 in reply. Mick Bocking top-scored with 48 in Bradfield Village Fellowship 2nds’ 147-8 against Rockingham Colliery 3rds at Stainborough; James Andrews (54) and skipper Ryan Whitehouse (42) then saw their side to a comfortable seven-wicket win. Doncaster Town 4ths conceded to Mexborough Athletic. On Sunday, Stocksbridge 2nds stretched their lead at the top to 36 points when forties from Matthew Price and Oliver Perry helped them to 198-7 against Rockingham Colliery 3rds at Hoyland Common, and they bowled their hosts out for 124 in reply. 

 

 

Leaders Sheffield Medics took another step towards claiming the division’s promotion spot when, after restricting Sheffield Super Kings to 154-9, with Krishna Thota taking 5-27, they reached their target for the loss of seven wickets with six overs to spare. Coal Aston 3rds, 28 points behind the leaders, have not given up hope, and after making 176-8, which included forties from Peter Millington and Josh Vandrill, Farhad Niazi taking 4-28, they bowled Allama Iqbal out for 173. Wajih Naqvi took 5-45 and Jhangir Ahmed 4-20 when The Chronicles England were all out for 113, but Norton Woodseats 2nds could manage only 102-9 in reply. Sheffield Transport bowled Wickersley Old Village 3rds out for 100, despite James Atkin and Kevin Heavey both passing 40, with Muneeb Hussain taking 5-32; Aarush Singh and Rohith Thirunganahalli then both made unbeaten forties in Transport’s nine-wicket win. Jasneet Gulati made 61 out of Brookhouse’s 197 all out against Sheffield Centralians 2nds, for whom Mayank Gahlot took 4-49; Adam Bryant then took 8-26 when Centralians were all out for 114 in reply. 

 

 

Frickley Colliery 2nds leapfrogged Eden Madras Parklands back to the top of the table with a big win over the leaders at the start of play. Owen Mitchell (102 off 93 balls), supported by fifties from Adam Wilkinson and skipper Luke Malone, took Frickley to 255 all out, Mrinmoy Bergohain taking 4-52 for Parklands; then four bowlers shared the wickets when Parklands were all out for 111 in reply. Craig Simmons took 4-13 for West Bretton 2nds, who bowled Upper Haugh 3rds out for 111 at Park Lane; and the hosts then completed a five-wicket win in 26 overs. Monk Bretton 2nds’ Jake Richardson took 5-14 and Alfie Holdroyd 4-24 when they bowled Worsbrough Bridge 2nds out for 52 on their way to an eight-wicket win. Brothers Teddy (48) and Ffinlo (69) Dyde helped Hallam 4ths post a healthy 242-5 against Sprotbrough 3rds at Bullcroft; and the home side were all out for 107 in reply. Barnsley Woolley Miners 4ths were all out for 96 against Pledwick 2nds at Woolley, Robert Rao taking 4-40, and the visitors completed a seven-wicket win in the 18th over. 

 

 

Waverley 2nds confirmed their promotion after Midhun Mohan top-scored with 60 in their 214 all out at home to Norton Oakes 2nds, who were all out for 105 in reply, despite Seth Warrington’s 60. Sheffield Spartans are in pole position for the second promotion spot after overwhelming their closest challengers, Elsecar 3rds, at Bakewell. Waqar Hussain made an unbeaten 93 in Spartans’ 193 all out, then Usman Iqbal took 6-12 when the visitors were all out for 37 in reply. De la Salle remain in the promotion hunt after beating Handsworth 2nds at Beauchief; Tim Venn made 55 in the hosts’ 158-6, then the visitors were bowled out just two runs short, despite the efforts of Asad Ali (40*). Hallam 5ths bowled Sheffield Collegiate 5ths out for 180, then Edward Ide (70*) and Jon Maiden (54) steered them to a seven-wicket win. Thorncliffe & Wentworth 2nds were all out for 98 at home to Sheffield Transport 2nds, but Jakob Burgin (4-28) made them work hard for their four-wicket win. 

 

 

A huge win for Sheffield University Staff 2nds confirmed their promotion with skipper Ciaran Hanvey (62) and Lumar Shekhar (96) leading them to 263-6 against Higham 3rds; Oscar Evans then took 4-13 when they bowled their opponents out for 29 in reply. Dearne lost ground and are now level in fourth with Eden Madras Parklands 2nds, who bowled them out for 99 (Ravi Gandamala 5-25) and beat them by six wickets. Sam Killoway (100 off 89 balls) led Silkstone United 2nds to 235 all out aginst Mexborough Athletic 2nds, for whom Matthew Whitaker took 4-23; Athletic were then 14 short on 221-7 in reply. Second- and third-placed Kexborough 2nds and Fishlake 2nds strengthened their promotion chances when they gained 12 points each after Sprotbrough 4ths and Wath 3rds respectively conceded their game against them. 

 

 

Lucas Young top-scored for Tickhill 3rds when they posted 210-6 against Sheffield University Staff 3rds at Great Longstone; Rupak Saha made an unbeaten 55 when the Staff replied, but Teddy Lovejoy took 4-18 and they were all out for 198, Tickhill moving up to second place in the table. Frecheville Community 2nds slipped to third despite bowling Hallam 6ths out for 120, of which Raj Agarwal made 50, but they were then all out for 86 in reply, John Chittock taking 5-13. Adnaan Younas made 63 in De la Salle 2nds’ 147-8 against Richmond at Graves Park; in reply the home side lost six wickets very cheaply, but Afridi Thaha (41*) and Sainath Gundarapu (73*) took them to a four-wicket win. Connor Baxter made 71 in Coal Aston 4ths’ 175 all out against Scholes & Harley 2nds at Scholes; the hosts were 54-5 in reply, but Lewis Pursglove (50) stood firm and helped his side to a three-wicket win. Leaders Whiston Forge 2nds gained 12 points when Oughtibridge War Memorial 3rds conceded their game at Wentworth. 

 

 

 

Barnsley Woolley Miners lost two of their main runs-scorers to Shiregreen skipper Imran Khan with only ten runs on the board after electing to bat first, but Boeta Beukes (38) started a recovery that was continued by Zarmash Tarakhil (64) and they ended up on 198 all out. Player-of-the-match Haris Khan (53) got his side off to a positive start in reply, putting on 94 inside 17 overs for the first wicket, and Mohammad Khan (52 off 37 balls) then took Shiregreen to the brink of their six-wicket win.
