Round-up of league & cup games played on 11 & 12 July.

A win for Sheffield Collegiate over their main challengers and defeat for third-placed Cawthorne saw Sheffield Collegiate make a huge step towards the League Championship. After 13 rounds, Collegiate, Sheffield Centralians in Division 6, Stocksbridge 2nds in Division 7 North, Waverley 2nds in Division 8 South, and Sheffield University Staff 2nds in Division 9 North all remain unbeaten. 

 

 

Cleethorpes looked to be on top for much of their top-two clash with Sheffield Collegiate at Abbeydale. With Josh Knapton taking 4-38, they had the leaders in trouble at 14-4 and 73-7 after being put in to bat, but a ninth-wicket stand of 51 between Henry Eldred and Josh Valey took Collegiate to 173-9; then, with the visitors on 154-5 in reply, with plenty of overs left, few would have bet on a home win. But Collegiate do not give up; Jamie Carrington took 5-50, the last five wickets fell for ten runs, and Collegiate were home by nine. Rory Daburger took 6-45 to help Doncaster Town bowl third-placed Cawthorne out for 216 at the Spinks ground; Harsha Rajapaksha (70) and Taylor Fell (66) then laid the foundations for Town’s four-wicket win with a third-wicket stand of 120. Skipper Jim Morgan (62) led the way in Tickhill’s 243-6 at home to relegation-threatened Sprotbrough; Josh Court (5-34) put paid to any victory hopes for the visitors, but their number ten, George Thompson, hit 47 off 31 balls to give them four precious bonus points from their 52-run defeat. Mike Jepps (81) and Abdul Qayoom (132 off 71 balls) helped Wickersley Old Village to a formidable 327-6 against Whiston Parish Church at the Beerpig Oval; Bhargav Merai then made 61 for the visitors and there were four wickets for Mayank Mishra in their 241-8 in reply. After a below par first half of the season, Appleby Frodingham have revived in recent weeks, and, despite 74 from skipper James Brown, they bowled Whitley Hall out for 199 at Brumby Hall, after asking them to bat first, with Paras Ratnaparkhe taking 4-20; skipper Alex Grimes (84) and Ratnaparkhe (73) then put on 119 for the second wicket to set up the home side’s five-wicket win. Bottom side Hallam put Wakefield Thornes in to bat at Crimicar, and Waqar Hussain (110 off 93 balls) helped the visitors to 241-7; Andre Bradford (69) and William Coates (54) provided the main resistance when Hallam replied, but they were all out for 201, Thornes’ skipper Matty Taylor taking 5-43. 

 

 

Leaders Ackworth came out on top in a low-scoring game at home to Shiregreen, for whom AhmadZai Shahidi took 5-17 when the home side were bowled out for 105 after choosing to bat first; Josh Hen-Boisen then took 5-25 when Shiregreen were all out for 97 in reply. Barnsley Woolley Miners’ opener Ali Zaryab scored his sixth century and now has 1,124 league runs for the season after his 125 out of 277-8 at home to Coal Aston, for whom Ben Hall took 4-30; in reply, opener Dave Rodgers made 52, but six bowlers took wickets and the visitors ended on 209-9. Hernus Marais made 51 in Tickhill 2nds’ 205-9 against third-placed Elsecar at the Al Murad Stadium, Musa Altaf taking 4-68; skipper Callum Higgins then made 50 in the home side’s reply, but Marais followed up with 4-64, and they were all out for 190. Aston Hall kept their promotion hopes alive after Adam Clarke took 4-56 to help them restrict Oughtibridge War Memorial to 204-9 at Waterside Gardens, and Muhammad Khan led them to an eight-wicket win with an unbeaten 95. Upper Haugh moved into the top half of the table with a crushing win over Doncaster Town 2nds at Wentworth Road, where opener Ali Asghar (58) and Samuel Thompson (52 not out) led them to an impressive 292-7; Parvez Asghar then took 4-33 when the visitors were bowled out for 125 in reply. Rockingham Colliery restricted Sheffield Collegiate 2nds to 186-9, with Dan Old contributing 50 at the top of the order and Paul Cummins taking 5-38; then Cummins (65 not out) and Ben Dalton (72) got them off to a great start with an opening stand of 149, and they completed a nine-wicket win in the 47th over. 

 

 

Ryan Pearson (55) and Dom McGough (56) rescued leaders Warmsworth from an indifferent 51-4 and helped them reach 261 all out away to Whitley Hall 2nds, for whom Sam Chatterton took 5-56; Lewis Brown then took 4-44 when the home side replied, and they were all out for 171. Second-placed Wath remain two points behind the leaders after Jay Smith took 4-50 to help them bowl West Bretton out for 144, of which opener Ben Summers made 66; Jason van Dyk then hit an unbeaten 102 off 62 balls to take his side to a nine-wicket win in the 20th over. 37 points behind the two leaders are Conisbrough, who lost out to Parkhead in a high-scoring game at Ecclesall Road. Luke Davison (61) and Rayyan Azhar (52) were the top scorers in the home side’s 270 all out, Nathan Chadburn taking 4-84; Conisbrough were 112-5 in reply before Mathew Lowe (64) and Travis Cresswell (102 off 52 balls) added 145 for the sixth wicket to take them to within 14 runs of victory, but the last five wickets fell for just three runs, Marcus Ardley finishing with 4-50, to leave Parkhead winners by ten. Evergreen Steve Foster (55) and Will Scott (64 not out) helped Treeton to 231-8 after being put in to bat at Frickley Colliery, for whom Adam Rollin took 5-58; player-of-the-match Rollin then hit 80 in the home side’s three-wicket win. Teriq Worrell took 4-36 to help Houghton Main bowl Monk Bretton out for 120 at Middlecliff Lane; opener Abdul-Wahab Shafi then making 58 in the home side’s five-wicket win. Cawthorne 2nds made 164-9 at home to Wickersley Old Village 2nds, for whom Hamzah Ilyas was unbeaten on 56 when they completed a seven-wicket win. 

 

 

Leaders Norton Oakes bowled bottom side Hallam 2nds out for 153 at Oakes Park, Dan Baldwin taking 5-57, on their way to a five-wicket win. Eight points behind the leaders are Thorpe Hesley & High Green, who bowled Wakefield Thornes 2nds out for 191 at Field Lane, skipper George Harrison making 59 for the home side, whilst there were four wickets for Oliver Law; Garvin Serieux then hit an unbeaten 75 in his side’s three-wicket win. Sheffield Collegiate 3rds lost ground on the leaders and are six further points behind after being held to 162-8 against Hatfield Town at Abbeydale, Luke Profitt top-scoring with 56; then Luke Cockburn (66) led the visitors to a three-wicket win that moves them up to sixth and keeps their promotion hopes alive. Norton Woodseats also lost ground on the leading group when they lost at home to Millhouses Works, who were helped to 254-8 by Kieren O’Sullivan (57) and George Henderson (52); then skipper Dan Loughlin made 58 when the home side replied, but they were all out for 168. Penistone leapfrogged Barnsley Woolley Miners 2nds when they beat them at Queen Street after bowling them out for 135, of which Andrew Clayton made 50; forties from opener Anthony Godley and Connor Smyth then took the home side to a six-wicket win. Joseph Kemp’s 85 was the foundation for Elsecar 2nds’ 246-7 at Green Lane, then Siraj Alam (61) and William Thom (74) led Aston Hall 2nds to a three-wicket win, despite Richard Stump’s 5-43. 

 

 

Sam Patel took 4-44 and Muhammad Ali 4-17 when Oughtibridge War Memorial 2nds bowled leaders Coal Aston 2nds out for 126 at Stonelow, but skipper Elliot Tye then took 8-30 and the visitors were all out for 92 in reply. Frecheville Community were level at the top at the start of play, but Saman Kursheedt took 7-31 to help third-placed Darfield bowl them out for 163 at the Hobson Bowl; Ashley Potter (68) and Brooklyn Whitmill (52) then led the visitors to a four-wicket win. Higham kept in touch with the top three when they bowled bottom side Wath 2nds out for 117 at Moor Road, Gareth Kilburn taking 5-25; and Brad Gledhill was unbeaten on 47 when the visitors completed a nine-wicket win. 22 points behind these four are Upper Haugh 2nds, who restricted Sprotbrough 2nds to 173-7 at Melton Road, skipper Thomas Langley making 52 at the top of the order for the home side; then Ryan Tingle (61 not out) and Dan Whitehouse (52) led Upper Haugh to a six-wicket win. Adam Cummins (55) top-scored for Rockingham Colliery 2nds in their 212-6 away to Shiregreen 2nds; the home side were then 79-5 in reply, but a rally led by Tauheed Khan (49) earned them a tie when they finished level with their visitors on 212-9, Alan Lockwood taking 4-55 for the Colliery. Asjad Shah (110 off 105 balls) and Shahrukh Khan (51 not out) helped Sheffield United to post 272-6 at Worsbrough Bridge, who were all out for 144 in reply, with Callum Bentley making 53. 

 

 

Rob Taylor recorded 5-3-2-4 when Stocksbridge bowled promotion challengers Thorncliffe & Wentworth out for 75 at Bracken Moor, and the home side eased to an eight-wicket win in the 13th over to move to the top of the table. The leaders at the start of play, Whiston Forge, well beaten at home by Kexborough, whom opener Ulaganathan Sayanthan (58), and skipper Danny Bowering (50 not out) led to an imposing 271-7; the home side were 41-5 in reply, and although Cade Darwin (55) restored some respectability, they were all out for 159. Umesh Mandal took 6-24 for Sheffield University Staff when they kept Sheffield Caribbean to 149-9, of which opener Andrew Jackson made 68; skipper Waqas Tanveer was then unbeaten on 52 when the Staff completed a four-wicket win that pushes them up to second. Noah Jackson made an unbeaten 80 for Bradfield Village Fellowship in their 216-8 at home to Ackworth 2nds, but skipper Liam Carr (63 not out) and Niall Charles (84) led the visitors to a five-wicket win. Jake Marshall (3-1-2-5) was instrumental in Pledwick bowling out Doncaster Town 3rds for 57, and his side then cantered to an eight-wicket win in 13 overs. Ben Patfield (52 not out) helped Barnsley Woolley Miners 3rds recover from 68-5 to post 163-7 away to Treeton 2nds, but opener Rithish Sasikumar made 65 in the home side’s seven wicket win. 

 

 

Leaders Wombwell Main bowled Millhouses Works 2nds out for 136 at Millhouses Park, Jonathan Scaife taking 7-39; then Scaife completed a brilliant all-round performance with an unbeaten 67 in his side’s eight-wicket win. Second-placed Hatfield Town 2nds kept pace at the top; Wiqas Sikander (96) and Evan Snook (50) put on 162 for the fifth wicket in their 250-6 at home to Barnby Dun, who were all out for 53 in reply. Waverley are six points further back, leapfrogging their opponents Sheffield Collegiate 4ths after Sajid Hussain (89) led them to 242-9; opener Ben Jackson made 114 off 122 balls in Collegiate’s reply, but Vishnu das Devadas took 7-31 and they were all out for 222. Silkstone United were all out for 115 at home to Penistone 2nds, who completed a five-wicket win to move up to fourth. Chris Fisher’s 77 helped Thorpe Hesley & High Green 2nds post 182-7 at home to Maltby Miners Welfare, then Nasser Rasool recorded 10.3-6-8-6 when the visitors were 26 all out in reply. On Sunday, Harry Spence made 62 in Hallam 3rds’ 196-7 against Warmsworth 2nds at Common Lane, then Josh Wolsey made 50 in the home side’s two-wicket win. 

 

 

Leaders Sheffield Centralians bowled Whitley Hall 3rds out for 138 at Green Moor, then Azhar Khan (53 not out) led the visitors to a six-wicket win. Parkhead 2nds strengthened their hold on the second promotion spot when Hashim Mahroof’s 5-30 helped them bowl Scholes & Harley out for 149 at Scholes, despite Tom Wade’s unbeaten 77; Nathaniel Sloane (50) and Rohan Ardley the put on 98 for Parkhead’s first wicket on their way to a six-wicket win. Ten points behind Parkhead are Fishlake, who gained just two points from their defeat at Wadworth. The home side posted 263-7, with Addison Senior (68) and James Needham (134 off 109 balls) adding 194 for the third wicket; Charlie Metcalfe was then unbeaten on 87 in the visitors’ reply, but they fell well short of their target on 196-7. There was something of an upset at Church Fields, where bottom side Handsworth reached 216-9 against fourth-placed Whiston Parish Church 2nds; Owais Bhatti then took 5-23 and they bowled their hosts out for 99 in reply. Green Moor were bowled out for a modest 129 at Park Lane, Tom Humphries taking 5-34, but this proved more than enough when Satinderpal Singh took 4-20 and Conisbrough 2nds were all out for 105 in reply. Haider Abbas (74) and Umer Sami rescued Sheffield Caribbean 2nds from 99-6 with a seventh-wicket partnership of 115, and helped them to 216-7 at home to Sheffield United 2nds, who were all out for 137 in reply. 

 

 

There was a comfortable win for leaders Stocksbridge 2nds at the Beecroft Estates ground, where skipper Steven Perry (76) led them to 176 all out, whilst Ryan Linney (5-60) and Andrew Sharp (4-18) were the pick of the Mexborough Athletic bowlers, but the home side were then all out for 66 in reply. James Lawson (56) and Mac Mahmood (71) helped take Higham 2nds to 227-7 at Royd Lane; then Ryan Atkinson hit an unbeaten 106 off 112 balls, sharing in an unbroken seventh-wicket stand of 130 with Gulagha Sadiq (60 not out) for Houghton Main 2nds, but they finished 21 short on 206-6. Third-placed Wombwell Main 2nds bowled Bradfield Village Fellowship 2nds out for 128 at the I-Source Stadium, Kathan Stenton taking 6-27; the home side then eased to a seven-wicket win in the 23rd over. Bottom side Doncaster Town 2nds gained their first win of the season when they made 153 all out against Darfield 2nds at Blaxton, then bowled their visitors out for 92 in reply. Rockingham Colliery 3rds made 164-9 away to Adwick-le-Street, James Andrews making 67, whilst Harry Tudor took 5-35 for the home side; Adwick then won by seven wickets with eight balls to spare. 

 

 

There was a shock defeat for leaders Sheffield Medics when lost at home to bottom side Wickersley Old Village 3rds after skipper Arun Urs (65) had led them to 196-7; the visitors were then guided to a four-wicket win by Tristan Alfred (62 not out). Third-placed The Chronicles England had a big win when Albin Manuel (80) and Neal Pauly (51) helped take them to 253 all out against Coal Aston 3rds at Stonelow, and they bowled their hosts out for 126 in reply. Guhan Marimuthu made 52 when Sheffield Superkings made 165-9 at home to Norton Woodseats 2nds; then Lawrence Berry made 52 for the visitors, but they finished just one run short of their target on 164-8. Jasneet Gulati made 70 in Brookhouse’s 217 all out at home to Sheffield Transport, for whom Chris Johnson took 4-52, and Transport then fell 27 short of their target on 190-7. The game between Sheffield Centralians 2nds and Allama Iqbal at Olive Grove was abandoned with the visitors on 72-2 in the first innings. 

 

 

Leaders Frickley Colliery 2nds maintained their slender advantage at the top when they bowled Worsbrough Bridge 2nds out for 129 at Park Road, Jack Horobin taking 4-16; Owen Mitchell then made 50 when the visitors completed a nine-wicket win in the 23rd over. Eden Madras Parklands kept pace with the leaders, after making 195 all out away to Barnsley Woolley Miners 4ths, for whom Steven Dixon took 4-34; then bowling their hosts out for 146, of which Dixon made 51. West Bretton 2nds emphatically returned to winning ways when they restricted Sprotbrough 3rds to 162-6, of which James Rowett made 59; then Craig Simmons (68 not out) and John Hubery (76) put on 146 for their first wicket in their nine-wicket win. Hallam 4ths held Pledwick 2nds to 105-9, then cruised to an eight-wicket win with opener Seb Wainwright making 69. Sean Hawkins made 49 at the top of the order for Upper Haugh 3rds in their 194-9, Patrick Jensen taking 4-37 for home side Monk Bretton 2nds, who were then all out for 128 in reply. On Sunday, Barnsley Woolley Miners 4ths bowled Sprotbrough 3rds out for 92, then Robert Edmundson (5-15) made them work hard for their three-wicket win. 

 

 

Karunanithi Selvaraj (63) rescued leaders Waverley 2nds from 131-8 and gave them something to bowl at in 191 all out, Sam Wainwright taking 4-33 for hosts De la Salle, who then made 115-9 in reply. Second-placed Elsecar 3rds bowled Sheffield Transport 2nds out for 46, then completed a ten-wicket win in the fifth over. Sheffield Spartans kept their promotion hopes alive when they restricted Norton Oakes 2nds to 162-9, and Shabir Ali made 65 not out in their three-wicket win. Thorncliffe & Wentworth 2nds bowled Sheffield Collegiate 5ths out for 117, then completed as four-wicket win in the 26th over. Jon Maiden made 94 in Hallam 5ths’ 186-6, and then they bowled Handsworth 2nds out for 145 in reply. 

 

 

Leaders Sheffield University Staff 2nds recovered from 17-4 to reach 163 all out against Sprotbrough 4ths at Barnby Dunn, where Junior-Jay Langley took 4-27; Siddharth Patwardhan then returned 9.2-5-9-6 when Sprotbrough were bowled out for 37 in reply. Dearne, Fishlake 2nds and Kexborough 2nds remain locked together in second place, 30 behind the Staff. Neil Hinchliffe returned 5-4-1-5 when Kexborough 2nds bowled Mexborough Athletic 2nds out for 43 and beat them by ten wickets; Paul Trimingham (55) top-scored in Fishlake 2nds’ 221-8 at home to Silkstone United 2nds, who fell well short on 142-8 in reply, despite 69 from Robert Hill; and Malcolm Day took 6-32 for Dearne when they bowled Wath 3rds out for 131, before an unbeaten 54 from Nick Petty then took them to a three-wicket win. Elsewhere Rahul Sambrekar’s 108 off 102 balls was the highlight of Eden Madras Parklands 2nds’ 286-8 against Higham 3rds, who where all out for 56 in reply, Ravi Gandamala taking 4-28. 

 

 

There are joint leaders in the division, with Whiston Forge 2nds and Coal Aston 4ths locked together 20 points clear of the rest. Cameron McLean took 4-18 for Whiston Forge 2nds when they bowled Tickhill 3rds out for 114 and David Foote was unbeaten on 51 when they completed a nine-wicket win. Coal Aston 4ths lost for the second week running when Mike Rose (62) led Richmond to 175-8, despite Kevin Simpson’s 4-34; then, although skipper Tom Crown (63) and Richard Harper (76) took them to 115-1, Coal Aston then collapsed to 170 all out. Mat Dexter (61) and Lee Ford (51) helped third-placed Frecheville Community 2nds to 236-9; then De la Salle 2nds were restricted to 187-6 in reply, Phil Hall making 65. Ashley Statham made 57 in Oughtibridge War Memorial 3rds’ 166 all out against Hallam 6ths, for whom Aashman Arora took 6-32; then Isa Rasool took 4-47 when Hallam were all out for 132 in reply.
