Round-up of league and cup games played on 13 & 14 June

A good weekend weatherwise enabled almost a full league and cup programme to be played. After nine rounds of league competition, there are still seven unbeaten sides; Sheffield Collegiate (P), Warmsworth (1), Sheffield Centralians (6), Stocksbridge 2nds (7N), Frickley Colliery 2nds (8N), Waverley 2nds (8S), and Sheffield University Staff 2nds (9N). 

 

 

Leaders Sheffield Collegiate made quick work of third-placed Tickhill at Abbeydale. The visitors were bowled out for 49, and Collegiate knocked off the required runs for the loss of two wickets in the 16th over. Tom and Nic Keast (65) put on 108 for second-placed Cleethorpes’ first wicket against Whitley Hall in their 232-8 at Chichester Road, and the visitors were all out for 180 in reply. Cawthorne moved up to third place in the table after a comfortable win over Hallam at Dark Lane. An unbeaten 106 off 116 balls from Liam Wiles saw the hosts post 203-4, then Ikramullah Naseri took 5-24 when Hallam were all out for 93 in reply. Doncaster Town moved up a place into the top half of the table after an unbeaten 51 from George Fisher helped them total 227-7 at home to Appleby Frodingham, who closed on 172-9 in reply. Wickersley Old Village made 215-8 against Wakefield Thornes at the Beerpig Oval; in reply, Jawad Akhtar hit 51 for the visitors, but Mayank Mishra took 5-26, and they were all out for 151. Zaki Anjam’s 81 was the highlight of Sprotbrough’s 202 all out away to Whiston Parish Church, for whom Bhargav Merai took 4-29; Merai then made 64 in Whiston’s reply, and forties from Mark Cummins and Brady Saunders took them to a six-wicket win. 

 

 

Leaders Ackworth came out on top in a high-scoring encounter at Green Lane. Nathan Ward (85) and Muhammad Khan (83) put on 143 for Aston Hall’s second wicket, and a brisk unbeaten 53 from Ollie Wainwright took the hosts to 252-3; then Sam Swindin (63) and Luke Townsend (52) gave Ackworth an opening stand of 98, and Shingi Masakadza (51 not out off 36 balls) then powered his side to a five-wicket win. Lucas Slatter took 4-26 to help second-placed Barnsley Woolley Miners bowl Rockingham Colliery out for 167 at Shaw Lane; then Charlie Taylor’s unbeaten 51 helped the hosts to a five-wicket win. Opener Haroon Tariq (69) top-scored for Shiregreen in their 197 all out against Elsecar at the Al-Murad Stadium; then Omar Shinwari took 4-41 when the home side were bowled out for 160 in reply. Doncaster Town 2nds moved up to fourth after a close encounter against Coal Aston at Stonelow. The hosts were all out for 201; then, despite Michael Hunter’s 5-46 when Town replied, they got home with two wickets and one over to spare. Louie Owens (56) and skipper Adam Burkinshaw gave Sheffield Collegiate 2nds an opening stand of 92 against Tickhill 2nds at the Brookfield Oval, but Joel Martin took 4-38 to help restrict Collegiate to 172-7; forties from Harvey Wootton and Hernus Marais then took the home side to a five-wicket win. 107 off 85 balls from Vikas Dixit enabled Oughtibridge War Memorial to post 221-5 against Upper Haugh, who were all out for 193 in reply, despite Renaldo Brathwaite’s unbeaten 105 off 102 balls. 

 

 

Leaders Warmsworth amassed 301-8 against Cawthorne 2nds at Common Lane, Limar Pierce scoring 78, whilst there were four wickets for Ryan Gibson; Nick Lowe made an unbeaten 104 off 142 balls in the visitors’ reply, but they finished well short on 191-8. Second-placed Wath had a comfortable win over Monk Bretton at Moor Road, after Syed Shah’s unbeaten 120 off 136 balls steered them to 218-3; Shah then completed a top all-round performance with 5-24 and Josh Burrows weighed in with 4-30 as the visitors were all out for 98 in reply. There was a big win for Conisbrough, who put Treeton in to bat at Washfield Lane and restricted them to 188-8, Will Scott top-scoring with 52, whilst Natham Chadburn took 5-22 for the visitors; Samuel Grant’s unbeaten 76 then helped the visitors home with three wickets to spare. Dilshan Sukumar took 5-43 for Parkhead against Whitley Hall 2nds when the hosts made 191-8 at Baxter Field; but Parkhead were all out for 134 in reply. George Naylor’s 58 was the key innings when West Bretton made 227-9 against Wickersley Old Village 2nds at Park Road; then Aqeel Ahmed made 82 when the visitors replied, but they fell six runs short on 221-9. Adam Rollin (84) and Jordan Bowers (71) added 118 for Frickley Colliery’s third wicket in their 299-7 at home to Houghton Main; Asim Javed (85) and Teriq Worrell (58) then put on 115 for Houghton’s fourth wicket and they reached 194-4, but home skipper Matt Pinder took 5-72 and they were bowled out for 240, despite a defiant 52 from Waris Abbas. 

 

 

Leaders Sheffield Collegiate 3rds’ made 183-9 against Norton Oakes at Oakes Park; but the home side then edged their way to a two-wicket win in the 49th over, and Collegiate’s lead at the top was cut to six points. Charlie Armitage took 4-54 for Penistone when they bowled second-placed Norton Woodseats out for 184 at Matthews Lane. Wajih Naqvi (4-32) then took four early wickets and Penistone were 22-5 in reply, but then skipper Tom Exley (61) and Ben Askey (49) put on 125 for the sixth wicket, only for them to lose their last five wickets for 14, and they were all out for 161, Blake Stocks finishing with 4-33. Barnsley Woolley Miners 2nds missed the chance to move up to second place when they let Thorpe Hesley & High Green off the hook after having them 154-8 at Smithywood Road, Ashley Reynolds’ unbeaten 66 then took the hosts to 252-8, whilst Barnsley skipper Mark Wilkinson took 5-56; Oliver Law then took 4-48 when the visitors were all out for 216 in reply. Joshua Hartfield made 53 in Hatfield Town’s 189-9 away to Millhouses Works, and Aidan Coulbeck took 6-51 when the hosts were all out for 159 in reply. George Harrison took 4-19 to help Wakefield Thornes 2nds bowl Elsecar 2nds out for 99 at Field Lane; and Thornes duly completed an eight-wicket win in the 25th over. The bottom two met at Crimicar, where Aston Hall 2nds were 64-8 before an unbeaten 58 from Tom Coulson lifted them to 188 all out against Hallam 2nds, for whom Nathaniel Dingle took 4-49; but the home side were then all out for 106 in reply. 

 

 

Skipper Eliot Tye’s 63 helped leaders Coal Aston 2nds to 172 all out against Sheffield United at Bawtry Road, with Shahrukh Khan taking 4-56 for the hosts; Tye then took 4-39 and United were 96-8 in reply before Shokoor Ahmadzai (60 at number nine) caused a few flutters until he was last out at 147. Muhammad Ishtiaq (60) helped Shiregreen 2nds to 206-4 at home to second-placed Frecheville Community; then Ashan Lakmal (59) set the visitors on their way to a six-wicket win. Samad Kursheed took 7-46 to help Darfield bowl Worsbrough Bridge at the Warm Roofs ground; skipper Jordan Watson (64 not out) then led the visitors to a one-wicket win. Glen Burden (61) and Ryan Howarth (50) were the chief run-scorers in Higham’s 226-9 against Rockingham Colliery 2nds at Hoyland Common; opener William King was then 79 not out for the hosts, but they finished well short on 163-8. Will Rudkin (65 not out) and Thomas Cuthbert (56 not out) lifted Sprotbrough 2nds from 167-8 to 263-8 at home to bottom side Wath 2nds, who were all out for 96 in reply. Mohammad Ali (57) top-scored in Oughtibridge War Memorial 2nds’ 200-9 away to Upper Haugh 2nds, a total boosted by an unbeaten 33 from number 11 Harry Crossley, whilst Ayden Dawson took 4-55 for the hosts; William Clegg took 4-21 when Upper Haugh replied, and they were 91-7 before Joe Haigh and Andrew Lintin (56 not out) lifted them to within sight of victory, but they finished ten short on 190-7. 

 

 

Leaders Thorncliffe & Wentworth bowled Kexborough out for 182 at Lound Side, with Matty Woods making 64 for the visitors; then forties from skipper Connor Brunt and Hummad Younis took Thorncliffe to a three-wicket win. Sheffield University Staff moved back up into second place after leapfrogging Whiston Forge in a low-scoring encounter at Warminster Road. Corey Manderson took 7-34 for the visitors when the Staff were all out for 149, but Forge were soon in trouble at 36-7 in reply, with Waqas Tanveer taking 6-24; Josh Cooke then made 50 to give them a chance of victory, but Forge were all out for 136. Doncaster Town 3rds were restricted to 151-7 by Stocksbridge at Bracken Moor, and the hosts then claimed a three-wicket win in 35 overs. Pledwick were bowled out for 132 away to Ackworth 2nds, for whom Dave Harris then made 75 in their seven-wicket win. Will Clarke (4-6) and Alex Clayton (4-38) helped Bradfield Village Fellowship bowl Treeton 2nds out for 90 at the Sands, and the home side completed a five-wicket win in the 30th over. Skipper Oliver Heseltine made 52 for Barnsley Woolley Miners 3rds in their 184-7 against Sheffield Caribbean at the Common; but the hosts then reached their target for the loss of seven wickets with six overs left. 

 

 

Two of the top three met at Abbeydale, where Nadeem Khan took 4-22 to help Sheffield Collegiate 4ths restrict leaders Wombwell Main to 156-7; but Darren Newton then took 5-14 when the hosts were all out for 95 in reply. Hatfield Town 2nds are level with Collegiate after a convincing win over Millhouses Works 2nds at Carr Side Lane. Waqas Sikander made 82 in the hosts’ 238-8, whilst Raheem Abbas took 4-54; then match-winner Sikander took 4-22 and Works were all out for 120 in reply. Michael Brown (56) and skipper Marcus Hoyland (77 not out) were the main contributors to Penistone 2nds’ 222-6 at home to Maltby Miners Welfare; then Paul Dalton took 4-29 when the visitors were all out for 161 in reply. Dominic Proctor took 6-17 when Thorpe Hesley & High Green 2nds bowled Waverley out for 61 at Totley, and the visitors completed a five-wicket win inside 20 overs. Silkstone United bowled Hallam 3rds out for 88 at Barnsley Road, then cantered to an eight-wicket win in the 14th over. Mark Mullen (90), Kevin Pearson (60) and Martin Spaven (50 not out) were all in the runs when Warmsworth 2nds amassed 292-5 against bottom side Barnby Dun at Glass Park; and the home side were all out for 84 in reply. 

 

Sheffield Centralians march on at the top, with Adeeb Khan’s 112 off just 59 balls propelling them to 265-7 away to Wadworth, who were 201-8 in reply, James Needham contributing 65 and Muhammad Irfan taking 4-49. Parkhead 2nds are a distant second, and they held Sheffield United 2nds to 172-7, before Harrison Vinall (79) and Nathaniel Sloane (50) put on 132 for their first wicket to set up a four-wicket win. Fishlake are just four points behind Parkhead after a narrow win over Handsworth at Pinfold Lane; skipper Ben Metcalfe made 51 out of the hosts’ 155 all out and Handsworth finished on 149-9, with Waheed Bhatti making 50. Green Moor were 106-6 before James Bates (50) and Manoj Jayasekara (69) came together in a seventh-wicket stand of 96, and took them to 222-8 at home to Whitley Hall 3rds; then Jayasekara completed an excellent game with 5-37 as the visitors were bowled out for 112 in reply. Charlie Tippett took 7-17 when Conisbrough 2nds bowled Sheffield Caribbean 2nds out for 114 at Park Road, then Toby Humphries was unbeaten on 66 when the hosts completed a nine-wicket win. Scholes & Harley were all out for 133 at home to Whiston Parish Church 2nds, who completed a six-wicket win in 28 overs. 

 

 

Stocksbridge 2nds are eight points clear after beating their closest rivals, Higham 2nds, at Royd Lane. An unbeaten 69 from Jon Pickford was crucial in taking the visitors to 199-8, after which they bowled Higham out for 153 in their reply. Rockingham Colliery 3rds are in third after a very comfortable win over bottom side Doncaster Town 4ths at Blaxton. Forties from James Andrews and Richard Skipworth helped the Colliery post 175-6; then James Peet took 4-22 when the hosts were all out for 86 in reply. Skipper Liam Bishop and Craig Taylor gave Adwick-le-Street a good start away to Darfield 2nds with an opening stand of 85, but they managed only 127-7, and the hosts were led to a five-wicket win by skipper Josh Care (57). Nick Petty made an unbeaten 104 off 111 balls on his debut for Houghton Main 2nds in their 176-4 at home to Bradfield Village Fellowship 2nds, who reached 146-8 in reply. 

 

 

Sheffield Medics now have an 18-point lead at the top after Darshan Patel (82) had taken them to a seven-wicket win over Sheffield Transport, whom they earlier bowled out for 135. Connor Baxter took 6-11 for second-placed Coal Aston 3rds when they bowled Brookhouse out for 47, and they then completed an eight-wicket win. Norton Woodseats 2nds lost ground on the leaders when, after bowling Sheffield Centralians 2nds out for 134, of which Haydar Ikrar made 51; they were bowled out for just 61 in reply, with Karan Jangra taking 5-10. Harikrishna Saravanan took 4-26 for Sheffield Superkings when they bowled Allama Iqbal out for 132, but then Zahid Momand took 5-16 when the Superkings were all out for 119 in reply. Gopu Krishna made 112 off 78 balls for The Chronicles England in their 243-9 against Wickersley Old Village 3rds, for whom Dan Hucknall took 4-81; then Wickersley were all out for 151 in reply, despite 60 from Tristan Alfred at the top of the order. 

 

 

Ashton D’Souza made an unbeaten 57 for Hallam 4ths, but they were bowled out for 119 by leaders Frickley Colliery 2nds at Sandygate; and the visitors completed a five-wicket win in the 26th over. Eden Madras Parklands remain ten points behind the leaders after a low-scoring win over Upper Haugh 3rds at Hooton Pagnell; Callum Plummer took 5-24 when the visitors were dismissed for 119; then Mrinmoy Borgohain and Raja Aslam took four wickets each when Upper Haugh were all out for 87 in reply. Ben Davis made 87 in Monk Bretton 2nds’ 165-7 at home to West Bretton 2nds, for whom skipper David Hoyle was unbeaten on 51 in their three-wicket win. There was a thrilling finish at Pledwick Well, where Pledwick 2nds were all out for 100, and then David Cocliff took 5-27 when visitors Worsbrough Bridge 2nds were all out for 100 in reply. James Harris (52) and Robert Edmundson (67) helped Sprotbrough 3rds to 237-7 against Barnsley Woolley Miners 4ths at Woolley, and the home side were 120 all out in reply. 

 

 

There was a resounding win for leaders Waverley 2nds, who reached 215-7 away to Sheffield Transport 2nds, Amrithesh Uppumtharamel making 55 and Arun Sobha 50 not out; the hosts were then bowled out for 63 in reply. Thorncliffe & Wentworth 2nds kept pace with the leaders, making 151-8 against Sheffield Spartans; then bowling their opponents out for 123 in reply. Ryan Wake made 53 in Sheffield Collegiate 5ths’ 166-8 against Handsworth 2nds, for whom Mohammad Aslan took 5-24; then Zain Tariq made 80 in the Handsworth’s eight-wicket win. Hallam 5ths against Norton Oakes 2nds was cancelled. 

On Sunday, second-placed Elsecar 3rds restricted De la Salle to 140-8 and then opener Alfie Rowbottom made 74 in Elsecar’s eight-wicket win. Waverley were all out for 110 against Sheffield Spartans at Bakewell, but then they bowled their hosts out for 88 in reply. 

 

 

Leaders Sheffield University Staff 2nds bowled Wath 3rds out for 95 and then completed a six-wicket win. David Moores’ unbeaten 97 rescued second-placed Fishlake 2nds from 50-5 and they made 175-9 away to Eden Madras Parklands 2nds, who were all out for 112 in reply. Kexborough 2nds bowled Silkstone United 2nds out for 123 and completed a four-wicket win in the 23rd over. There was a tight finish at the Beecroft Estates ground, where visitors Higham 3rds were 86-8, before skipper Steven Bamforth’s 50 lifted them to 144 all out; then home skipper Matthew Whitaker made 62 but Joshua Heeley took 4-31 and Mexborough Athletic 2nds were all out five runs short on 139. Dearne conceded their game against Sprotbrough 4ths. 

 

 

Leaders Coal Aston 4ths lost their unbeaten record after being bowled out for 78 away to Whiston Forge 2nds, for whom Andy Smith took 6-13, and the home side then completed a six-wicket win. Second-placed Sheffield University Staff 3rds also lost, after being bowled out for 115 away to De la Salle 2nds, for whom Matilda Murray took 4-14; and the hosts duly completed a five-wicket win. Frecheville Community 2nds made up ground on the top three when they made 170-8 against Scholes & Harley 2nds at the Hobson Bowl, before bowling their visitors out for 124 in reply, Adam Gibson taking 5-17. Opener Mike Rose made 86 for Richmond in their 188-6 at home to Hallam 6ths, who were 74 all out in reply, with Sainath Gundarapu taking 4-12. 

On Sunday, there were four wickets apiece for Billy Haigh and Abubakr Rasool when Tickhill 3rds were bowled out for 130 by Oughtibridge War Memorial 3rds, who were then 121 all out in reply, Joe Senior taking 4-45.
