League matches
Leaders Cleethorpes made a bold declaration in order to secure the win that gives them their first YCSPL Premier Division title. Tom Keast (107*) and Jordan Cook (82*) had put on 181 for the third wicket against Shiregreen at Hatfield House Lane when Ian Mansfield declared with the visitors on 206-2 in the 40th over. Haris Khan got the hosts off to a brisk start with 43 off 36 balls, but Harry Clewett (4-51) and Mayank Mishra soon got to work and Shiregreen were all out for 141 in the 30th over. Wakefield Thornes did all they could by beating Appleby Frodingham at Brumby Hall but they cannot now overhaul the leaders. Dylan Hurst top-scored with 54 for the visitors in their 243 all out, and, typically, there were thirties across the order from James Wolfenden, Matty Taylor and Jamie Howarth. The hosts did not have everything their own way in reply, as Charlie Bourne (4-52) and Joe Norbury (4-33) reduced Tickhill to 96-8 before Alex Rowland and Court, with an unbeaten ninth-wicket stand of 53, took them to a two-wicket win in the 44th over. This result means that after nine seasons of Premier Division cricket, Treeton will play in the Championship Division in 2025. Elsewhere, Adam Copley took 5-36 to help Barnsley Woolley Miners bowl Doncaster Town out for 124 at Shaw Lane, and the visitors were 25-1 when the rain intervened to spoil a potentially interesting finish. Only 27 overs were possible at Baxter Field, where Whitley Hall had scored 106-4 against Elsecar, Callum Bethel top-scoring with 40, and there was no play at all between Cawthorne and Sheffield Collegiate.
The game between the top two in the Championship Division, Hallam and Wickersley Old Village at Crimicar, was abandoned without a ball bowled, a result that means that both sides are promoted, with Wickerley as champions. Ackworth missed their opportunity to keep their promotion hopes alive when their game at home to Aston Hall was abandoned after the first innings, in which the hosts were bowled out for 161. Adam Clarke took 7-51 for the visitors, whilst Dale Longfield was the hosts’ top-scorer, with an unbeaten 35 at number nine.
