For the first time this season, rain interfered with league games, but, with DLS called into action in several, there were results achieved in all but the two that were called off before the start.
Wakefield Thornes returned to winning ways by beating Whitley Hall at Baxter Field, and now lead the Premier Division by four points. Neil Longhurst (48) and Muhammad Qaisar Ashraf (58) rescued the hosts from 51-6 after they were put in to bat, and they reached 170-9. James Rhodes (55) then set the visitors on the right path, and they wrapped up a four-wicket win in the 39th over. Doncaster Town also bounced back from last week’s defeat, with an impressive five-wicket win over previous joint-leaders Sheffield Collegiate at Town Fields. After being asked to bat first, Jack Timby (49) and Abdul Faseeh (94) put on 139 for the visitors’ first wicket, before Warren Graca (4-35) pegged them back and they reached 173-6 in an innings shortened to 44 overs by rain. Town’s target was marginally DLS-adjusted to 176, and Bhargav Merai (64) led them to a five-wicket win with four balls to spare. Third-placed Cleethorpes also asked opponents Hallam to bat first at Crimicar, and bowled them out for 160. Jordan Cook (57 not out) then led his side to a six-wicket win in the 41st over. Cawthorne recorded an impressive win for the second week running, when they bowled Tickhill out for 71 after putting them in to bat at Dark Lane, Rizwan Sadiq taking 4-14. Josh Court then took 5-27 and the hosts were 31-5, but Liam Wiles steered them at a four-wicket win with an unbeaten 36. There was an important win for Barnsley Woolley Miners when they made 183-7 in a 38-over game against Wickersley Old Village at Shaw Lane, Sean Whitehead top-scoring with 49. Skipper Boeta Beukes then took 4-42 as the visitors were restricted to 168-6, after being 112-1 in reply. Keiran Lindley (7-3-8-4) and Liam Sylvester (5-20) combined to bowl Shiregreen out for 76 after they were put in to bat by Appleby Frodingham at Brumby Hall. Skipper Alex Grimes was unbeaten on 44 when the hosts reached their target for the loss of one wicket in the 23rd over.
The top three in the Championship Division all won. Leaders Doncaster Town 2nds made 206-5 in 42 overs after being put in to bat by Sheffield Collegiate 2nds at Abbeydale; Stuart Guy (100) and Rory Daburger (51 not out) putting on 136 for their third wicket. In reply, the hosts reached 164-9 chasing a DLS-revised target of 213 in 42 overs, Daburger taking 4-34, whilst skipper Adam Burkinshaw made 50 for Collegiate. Two points behind the leaders are Sprotbrough, for whom Thomas Pepper (57) and Harry Smith (51) put on 124 for the first wicket after they were put in to bat by Oughtibridge War Memorial at Waterside Gardens. Ikramullah Naseri then took four wickets for the hosts, and the visitors posted 221-9 in 38 overs. Tim Braithwaite took 4-19 when Oughtibridge replied, and they were all out for 150. At the Brookfield Oval, Arman Jaffer hit an unbeaten 124 off 113 balls for Whiston Parish Church when they made 222-7 against Tickhill 2nds, for whom Alex Rowland took 5-44. When the hosts replied, they never recovered from 58-7, Kazim Hassan taking 5-33, and they were all out for 134. Ackworth are in joint-fourth place, 14 points behind the leaders, after a narrow win over bottom club Rockingham Colliery, who lost by one wicket for the second successive week. Put in to bat at Hoyland Common, the Colliery made 185-5 in 38 overs, Paul Cummins making 63 and Lasith Lakshan 77; the visitors were 140-8 in reply, but Daniel Malyan-Walker hit a rapid unbeaten 55 to help them reach their target with one wicket and two overs to spare. In a local derby at Washfield Lane, Aston Hall maintained their recently-improved form, recording a 51-run DLS win over Treeton. Gerard Coetzee made 53 in the visitors’ 186-7 in 44 overs, before Treeton were all out for 147, chasing 199 to win. Skipper Rob Barlow (55) helped Wath reach 196-8 in 38 overs after they were asked to bat first by Elsecar at the Al-Murad Stadium. A good all-round bowling performance then saw the hosts dismissed for 147 in reply.
Jawad Saleem (60) led the way at the top of the order for Division 1 leaders Upper Haugh at School Lane, but Darfield skipper Joe Stickland took 5-33 and they were all out for 192. When the hosts replied, Habil Arshad took 4-30, and Darfield were all out for 149. Coal Aston had a week off, and the gap between the top two is now 26 points. Buddhika Bopitiyaga blasted 207 off 85 balls (19 fours and 18 sixes) in Conisbrough’s 357-9 against Barnsley Woolley Miners 2nds at Park Lane. Bopitiyaga then completed an outstanding all-round performance with 7-33 when the visitors were dismissed for 121 in reply, and his side are now only two points behind Coal Aston. Chris Siddall (76) and Matthew Thompson (72 not out off 49 balls) took fourth-placed Whitley Hall 2nds to 251-6 against Warmsworth at Common Lane. Jack Myers then took 6-36 as the hosts were bowled out for 190 in reply. Harrison Hayes recorded 8-4-11-6 to help Monk Bretton bowl bottom side Penistone out for 83 at Queen Street, and the visitors then completed a four-wicket win in the 34th over. Liam Heathcote’s 53 off 51 balls was the highlight of Wickersley Old Village 2nds’ 211-7 at home to Houghton Main, but Asim Javed’s 77 inspired the visitors to a two-wicket win in the 42nd over.
The top two in Division 2 met at Westfield Lane, where hosts’ skipper Matt Pinder took his third successive six-wicket haul (6-55) to help bowl Hallam 2nds out for 163, Will Newton top-scoring with 52. The visitors mounted a spirited defence of their total, Alex Coates taking 4-44, but Frickley Colliery’s last pair added 14 to see their side to a crucial win. Oughtibridge War Memorial 2nds made 142-7 against joint third-placed Wakefield Thornes 2nds at Field Lane, before Safiullah Abrar made an unbeaten 63 to help Thornes to a seven-wicket win with five overs to spare. The League’s leading run-scorer, Brennan Wilson, was at it again with an unbeaten 166 off 145 balls (16 fours and 10 sixes) as Cawthorne 2nds amassed 295-5 against Norton Woodseats at Matthews Lane. Ryan Gibson then took 5-49 when Woodseats were bowled out for 165 to ensure Cawthorne stayed level with Thornes. Parkhead lost ground on the leading group after losing to Aston Hall 2nds at Green Lane. Joe Milner made 65 for the visitors but Daniel Bothma took 4-14 and they were all out for 139. Marcus Ardley (4-43) then took the hosts’ first four wickets with only 53 on the board, but an unbeaten 43 from William Thom helped Aston to a four-wicket win. Skipper Lee Stewart (51 not out) boosted Millhouses Works from 132-7 to 220-9 against Elsecar 2nds at Millhouses Park, and the visitors fell 65 runs short on 155 all out in reply. Thorpe Hesley & High Green came out well on top in the battle of the bottom two at Bawtry Road. Saad Bashir took 4-64 for Sheffield United when the visitors posted 224 all out, then Ashley Reynolds (4-28) and Rasheed Eddy (6-41) bowled United out for 69 in reply.
In Division 3, Hatfield Town kept up their 100% record by overwhelming Bradfield Village Fellowship at Carr Side Lane. Opener Paul Davies hit 147 off 102 balls (16 fours, 9 sixes) and Sharafat Hussain made 61 off 24 balls in their 300 all out; then Alex Pepper took 6-41 when they bowled their visitors out for 92 in reply. Norton Oakes kept up the pace in second place, making 201-9 against Frecheville Community at Oakes Park, whilst Adam Buckle took 4-35 for the visitors. Daniel Kempton (50) and Janith Yasitha (52 not out) dominated Frecheville’s reply, but they fell 33 short on 168-6. Ben Fielding took 4-22 to help third-placed Sheffield Collegiate 3rds bowl Treeton 2nds out for 76 at Abbeydale, and Collegiate cruised to an eight-wicket win in the 16th over. Rockingham Colliery 2nds lost ground when they lost to Sheffield Caribbean at the Common. The hosts made a modest 143-9 in 40 overs, but four bowlers then shared the wickets as the Colliery never recovered from 17-4 and were all out for 93 in reply. Josh Burrows took 4-18 when Wath 2nds bowled Higham out for 120 at Moor Road, and Isaac Wainwright was unbeaten on 66 when the hosts completed an eight-wicket win in the 28th over.
Division 4 leaders Sprotbrough 2nds are another 100% side, and they completed a comfortable win over Sheffield Collegiate 4ths at Melton Road after being bowled out for 146; Rehan Ahmed taking 6-31 for the visitors. But their total was more than enough, Nicky Graves taking 6-10 as Collegiate were bowled out for 61 in reply. Second-placed Barnsley Woolley Miners 3rds lost ground on the leaders after being bowled out for 103 by Coal Aston 2nds at Woolley. The visitors did not have everything their own way though, and they lost six wickets in scoring the required runs. Tom Perry returned 8-24 when Stocksbridge bowled Upper Haugh 2nds out for 111 at Wentworth Road, then, after stuttering to 39-5, they were indebted to David Sedgwick, whose unbeaten 44 took them to a five-wicket win and to within two points of second place. Two points further back are Barnby Dun, who were in trouble at 15-7 at home to Wombwell Main, but their last four took them up to 75, and then James Brooks took 4-12 when the visitors were all out for 50 in reply. Two other top half sides met at Lound Side, where Chiraag Pandya’s 77 helped Sheffield University Staff to 177-8, then Heston Christian took 4-35 to help them bowl Thorncliffe & Wentworth out for 133 in reply. Andrew Wood’s 51 helped second-bottom Kexborough to 153 all out against Doncaster Town 3rds, for whom Muhammad Ali Shabir took 4-26; then Suthaharan Nadesapillai took 5-29 to help bowl Town out for 111 in reply. On Sunday, Upper Haugh 2nds climbed back out of the bottom two by beating bottom side Sheffield Collegiate 4ths at Abbeydale. The legendary Collegiate opener Nick Gaywood made 78 out of the hosts’ 164-8, but unbeaten half-centuries from Yousaf Ghani and skipper Gurvinder Singh then took the visitors to a seven-wicket win in 43 overs.
Omar Waine made 61 in Division 5 leaders Whiston Forge’s 188-9 against Penistone 2nds at Guilthwaite Hill, and Matthew Beevers took 5-35 when the visitors were dismissed for 136 in reply. Seasoned campaigner Keith Bee took 4-13 to help Fishlake bowl previously joint-leaders Ackworth 2nds out for 122, and then Charlie Metcalfe made an unbeaten 48 when Fishlake completed a five-wicket win. Carl Norris (50) and Andy Cutts (56) put on 92 for third-placed Hatfield Town 2nds’ first wicket in their 203-7 against Whiston Parish Church 2nds at Church Fields, and the hosts were all out for 123 in reply. Maltby Miners Welfare kept in touch with the top three by beating Hallam 3rds at Muglet Lane. They posted 164-8 after being put in to bat, then Lewis Kettleborough took 6-31 when they bowled their visitors out for 123 in reply. Joseph Mosley made 117 off 79 balls for Silkstone United at home to Conisbrough 2nds, then Emilia Rossi took 6-42 when the visitors were bowled out for 74 in reply.
Waverley continue to march on at the top of Division 6; Reon Jerome (48) was their top-scorer in their 189-9 against previously second-placed Thorpe Hesley & High Green 2nds, for whom Dom Proctor took 4-53. Vishnu Das Devadas then took 5-13 as Thorpe Hesley were all out for 85 in reply. Millhouses Works 2nds have now moved up to second after a big win over Mexborough Athletic at the Beecroft Estates ground. Skipper Richard Atherton top-scored for Works in their 220-7, then Oliver Wynn recorded 7-4-5-4 when the hosts were bowled out for 63 in reply. Green Moor are joint-fourth after their defeat away to Handsworth Junior SC. The hosts were all out for 156 after Zishan Butt (42) and Omar Arshad (72) had put on 96 for the first wicket, Satinderpal Singh doing most damage with 4-27; then Green Moor were bowled out for 137 in reply, despite Satvir Singh’s 69. Forties from Dave Spencer and Addison Senior took Wadworth to 163-4 at home to Sheffield Caribbean 2nds, then James Needham (4-33) and Jeff Dickinson (5-31) bowled the visitors out for 82 in reply. Callum Sverdloff took 6-21 when Scholes & Harley bowled Darfield 2nds out for 75 at Scholes, and the hosts then eased to a nine-wicket win in the 18th over. Corey Booker (53) helped Whitley Hall 3rds to recover from an indifferent start to reach 154-9 against Wickersley Old Village 3rds at Hill Top Lane; then William Yorke took 4-33 when the visitors were restricted to 139-9 in reply.
Adwick-le-Street have opened up a clear 20-point lead at the top of Division 7. Nick Bisby made 54 in their 149-4 against nearest rivals Upper Haugh 3rds at Hootton Pagnell, then Teddy Lovejoy took 4-19 when the hosts were dismissed for 100 in reply. Rohan Ardley (86) and Ben Tribick (86 not out) steered third-placed Parkhead 2nds to 242-5 at home to Barnsley Woolley Miners 4ths, who were all out for 113 in reply, Tom Wickstone taking 4-13. Sheffield United 2nds are fourth after putting Stocksbridge 2nds in to bat and restricting them to 109-8, then racing to an eight-wicket win in the 15th over. Thomas Hogan took 6-8 for Brookhouse, who bowled Rockingham Colliery 3rds out for 124 at Rose Lane, then claimed a three-wicket win, thanks to Jasneet Gulati’s 73 and despite Simon Grindle’s 4-19. Skipper Alistair Cooper hit 117 off 85 balls for Higham 2nds in their 214-4 against Handsworth Junior SC 2nds at Royd Lane. Cameron Parker then took 5-31 to help bowl the visitors out for 150 in reply. The game between Bradfield Village Fellowship 2nds and Doncaster Town 4ths was cancelled.
Norton Woodseats 2nds retained their lead in Division 8 after David Thorpe took 5-18 when they bowled Kexborough 2nds out for 45 at Bence Lane on their way to a seven-wicket win. Gul Safi took 5-15 for Houghton Main 2nds, who bowled Thorncliffe & Wentworth 2nds out for 99 at Middlecliffe Lane, and Shokoor Ahmadzai made 52 in the hosts’ five-wicket victory. Erstwhile leaders Monk Bretton 2nds were bowled out for 112 by Norton Oakes 2nds at the Castle Ground, and Seth Warrington made 50 when the visitors went on to complete a four-wicket win. Ben Whitehouse made 94 not out in Dearne’s 149-8 against Wombwell Main 2nds at Furlong Road, then Richard Wilkinson’s unbeaten 86 off 55 balls carried the visitors to an eight-wicket win in the 28th over. Shacheesh Sinha (60) helped Eden Grove Parklands to 146 all out against Sprotbrough 3rds in a 30-over game at Parklands, then the visitors were restricted to 130-7 in reply. Barnby Dun 2nds conceded against Hallam 4ths.
Lewis Collis took 4-23 for Division 9 leaders Frickley Colliery 2nds when they bowled Sheffield University Staff 2nds out for 117 at Warminster Road. Akash Rawal was then unbeaten on 73 when the visitors reached their target for the loss of two wickets in 20 overs. Waverley 2nds put Scholes & Harley 2nds in to bat at Totley in a 32-over game. The visitors found runs hard to come by and made only 54-7, a target that the hosts passed for the loss of one wicket in the eighth over and move up to joint-second. Worsbrough Bridge 2nds lost ground on the leaders when they were well beaten by Silkstone United 2nds at Park Road. Jack Pepper (61) and Joe Green (96) put on 144 for the visitors’ third wicket in their 182 all out, and Bridge were all out for 110 in reply. John Grayson made 71 in Oughtibridge War Memorial 3rds’ 141-9 against Frecheville Community 2nds, who were all out for 123 in reply, Thomas Dawn taking 4-28. Hiren Jeyakanth (59) and John Kemp (62) helped Fishlake 2nds to 186 all out against Mexborough Athletic 2nds, for whom Owen Brinton took 6-22, and Athletic were all out for 117 in reply. Mark Barlow took 4-49 for Wath 3rds in Eden Grove Parklands 2nds' 188-9, then Charlie Whitehead (51) and Ollie Burrows (51 not out) helped Wath to a four-wicket win. Elsecar 3rds against Whiston Forge 2nds was cancelled.
In the T20 Blast semi-finals, there were wins for Doncaster Town and Wakefield Thornes. Joel Whelan made 68 in Tickhill’s 130-3 in a 16-over game against Doncaster at the Brookfield Oval, but George Fisher (71 not out off 35 balls) and Jaden Fell (53 not out off 26) passed the target with ease, completing a ten-wicket win in the 11th over. Joe Billings (53 off 27 balls) top-scored in Thornes’ 159-9 against Sheffield Collegiate, for whom Tate Miller took 3-27. Six bowlers then shared the wickets as Collegiate fell short at 144-8 in reply.
The T20 Plate final will be between Sprotbrough and Whiston Parish Church. Thomas Pepper (51 off 34 balls) and Harry Graham (62 off 49) gave Sprotbrough a fine start with an opening stand of 88 against Aston Hall at Green Lane, and the visitors made 178-6 in their 20 overs. Zaki Anjam made 51 at the top of the order in the hosts’ reply, but wickets fell regularly, three each to Nicky Graves and Joe Toole, and Sprotbrough held out for seven-run win. Tom Bolland (3-15) had Upper Haugh in early trouble in the other semi-final, and they slipped to 49-7 before an unbeaten 32 from Jack Ramsay took them to 107-8. Bilal Afzal then hit an unbeaten 83 off 38 balls to take Whiston past their target with nine wickets and nine overs to spare.
