In the Premier Division, Wakefield Thornes bounced back from last week’s disappointing defeat with a resounding win over champions Cleethorpes at Field Lane. James Rhodes (53) and Muhammed Mumtaz (59) were the top scorers in Thornes’ 250-8, whilst Josh Knapton took four wickets for the visitors. Skipper Matt Taylor then took 6-39 as Cleethorpes were bowled out for 82 in reply. Thornes have returned to the top of the table at the half-way point, thanks partly to Sheffield Collegiate’s defeat at Tickhill, where home skipper Ross Diver (80) and Jim Morgan (131 not out) got their side off to a great start with an opening stand of 153. Chasing a daunting 284-3, Collegiate were all out for 188, with five bowlers sharing the wickets. Whitley Hall are now level with Collegiate in second place, after a crushing win over Barnsley Woolley Miners at Baxter Field. Muhammad Qaiser Ashraf hit 100 off 59 balls, putting on 103 for the seventh wicket with skipper James Brown (53 not out), and the hosts posted a formidable 356-7. Ashraf then completed a brilliant all-round performance with 5-34 and the visitors were all out for 122 in reply. Cawthorne are up to fourth place after bowling Hallam out for 161 and knocking off the required runs for the loss of three wickets in the 25th over, Aryan Versani hitting 74 off 54 balls. Doncaster Town lost more ground on the leaders after being beaten by Appleby Frodingham at Brumby Hall. Kieran Lindley (80) top-scored in the hosts’ 236-7, George Cowan claiming four wickets for the visitors, who were all out for 200 in reply. Jaden Fell (54) and Bhargav Merai (54) steered the visitors into a decent position at 173-3 in reply, but Lindley completed an excellent all-round performance with 7-58, and the visitors were all out for 200. Wickersley Old Village claimed what could be a crucial win, over Shiregreen at Hatfield House Lane. Ben Simpson made 49 in the visitors’ 190-7, then five bowlers took wickets when the hosts were all out for 117 in reply.
Doncaster Town 2nds returned to the top of the Championship Division after a narrow win over third-placed Whiston Parish Church at Town Fields. Skipper Robert Grace (47) and Simon Widdup (50 not out) helped the hosts to 178-8, despite 4-47 from Arman Jaffer, then Jaffer hit 61 in the visitors’ reply, but it was not enough, and they were all out four runs short at 174. Joshua Hen-Boisen (91) and Shingi Masakadza (57) led the way for Ackworth in their 251-8 away to overnight leaders Sprotbrough, despite Parteek Khasa’s 4-50. Masakadza then completed an excellent game with 7-27 and the hosts were all out for 117 in reply. Matthew Taylor top-scored with 67 in Sheffield Collegiate 2nds’ 218-7 against Treeton, who were all out for 97 in reply. Aston Hall bounced back after last week’s defeat with a comprehensive win over bottom side Wath at Moor Road. Sam Whitlam made an unbeaten 46 for the hosts in their 187 all out, but Zaki Anjam (86) and Nathan Ward (56) put on 152 for the visitors’ first wicket to put the result beyond doubt, and Aston reached their target for the loss of two wickets in the 41st over. Nathaniel Wilkes (50) and Ibrahim Safi (107) were in the runs for Tickhill 2nds in their 262-9 against Oughtibridge War Memorial at Waterside Gardens, skipper Will Cooper taking 4-40 for the hosts. Ikramullah Naseri (112) and Jack Newton (50) then put on 123 for the hosts’ fourth wicket, to help them recover from 30-3, and they set up a two-wicket win in the 48th over. There was another excellent all-round performance at the Al-Murad Stadium, where Lasith Lakshan made 72 to help Rockingham Colliery to 200-8 against Elsecar, for whom Lalith Mohan took 5-58, then Lakshan followed up with 6-28 to help his side bowl the hosts out for 94 in reply.
Ali Asghar’s 48 was the foundation for Division 1 leaders Upper Haugh’s 173 all out against Monk Bretton at the Castle Ground. Parvez Asghar then took 4-37 when the hosts were bowled out for 146 in reply, Joshua van Oudtshoorn making 51, to add to his three earlier wickets. Penistone recorded a valuable win in their bid to remain in the division, at home to Coal Aston. Dave Rodgers (44) and Jack Hall (51) got the visitors off to a good start, but they were unable to fully capitalise and were all out for 219. Oscar Oborn-Corby took 4-50 when Penistone replied, but Connor Smythe hit an unbeaten 103 to take them to victory by four wickets with two overs to spare. Zeeshan Ahmed (106) and Syed Shah (121 not out) put on 180 for Darfield’s third wicket against Conisbrough at Park Road, helping the visitors amass 313-6. Josh Whitaker top-scored with 54 in the hosts’ reply, but six bowlers shared the wickets and they were restricted to 249-9 in reply; and Darfield moved above Coal Aston into second place. An unbeaten 62 off 22 balls from Aqeel Ahmed boosted Wickersley Old Village 2nds from 145-7 to 233-7 at home to Warmsworth. Skipper Nathan Swift hit 74 at the top of the order for the visitors, adding 139 for the third wicket with Liam Marshall (59), but Ahmed followed up on his batting fireworks with 7-58, and Warmsworth subsided to 196 all out. James Ahmed (64) and Alex Littlewood (51) gave Whitley Hall 2nds a good start against over Barnsley Woolley Miners 2nds at Shaw Lane, and they posted 240-8. Sam Woodcock then took 6-43 to help bowl the hosts out for 111 in reply.
Division 2 leaders Frickley Colliery march on, but they were given a good game by Millhouses Works at Westfield Lane. Bailey Hopkins (49) and Stephen Ashworth (94) put on 96 for the hosts’ fourth wicket to rescue them from 22-3, and they were all out for 231. Kieren O’Sullivan made 63 at the top of the order when the visitors replied, and when Tom Roper and Noah Ellis put on 86 for the fourth wicket to take them to 172-3, an upset looked on. But home skipper Matt Pinder came up with another five-wicket haul (5-51), and Millhouses were all out for 218. Hallam 2nds returned to winning ways with a comfortable win over Oughtibridge War Memorial 2nds at Crimicar, and they are in second place, 20 points behind the leaders. Denis Smith (52) and Bavasuthan Selvanayagam (56) helped the visitors to 184 all out, whilst skipper Alex Coates took 4-61 for the hosts. Coates and Edward Haynes then had an unbroken stand of 99 that took their side to a six-wicket win in the 44th over. Wakefield Thornes 2nds are four points further back in third after a seven-wicket win over bottom side Sheffield United at Bawtry Road. The hosts were all out for 157 and Thornes passed their target with 12 overs to spare. Cawthorne 2nds missed the chance to keep pace with the leaders when they lost away to Thorpe Hesley & High Green, and they are now level with Thornes in third. The hosts were 68-7, but Ashley Reynolds (41), with good support from the rest of the lower order, took them to 168 all out, whilst Buck Rees-McClure took 5-51 for the visitors. Rasheed Eddy then took 9-52 when Cawthorne replied, and they were all out for 94. James Eyre (101) and skipper Daniel Loughlin (79) put on 185 for Norton Woodseats’ second wicket in their 260-4 against Aston Hall 2nds at Green Lane. Opener Stan Ashton made 74 for the hosts, but David Armitage (4-54) and Aamir Ashfaque (4-64) bowled Woodseats to a 24-run win. Elsecar 2nds were 34-6 away to Parkhead, Harry Pollard taking 4-47, before Ethan Winstanley (64) and skipper Jason Meadows (74) put on 135 for the seventh wicket to take them to 176 all out. The hosts were 79-6 in reply before Joe Milner’s unbeaten 63 took them to a three-wicket win.
Division 3 joint-leaders Hatfield Town returned to winning ways after Waqas Sikander (70 not out) rescued them from 23-5, and they posted 188 all out against Sheffield Caribbean at the Common, Tuffail Dar taking 4-35 for the hosts. Alex Pepper then took 4-18 when Caribbean were bowled out for 122 in reply. Norton Oakes remain level with Hatfield after a comfortable win over Wath 2nds at Oakes Park. Joshua Cross took 4-30 when the visitors were bowled out for 148, then skipper James Thompson (61 not out) and Cross (51 not out) enjoyed an unbroken third-wicket stand of 118 that took them to victory in the 27th over. Sheffield Collegiate 3rds remain third, but lost ground after losing to Shiregreen 2nds at Abbeydale. Iftequar Mohammed (70) and Akhtarzaman Khan (65) led the visitors to 257-8, then Michael Goodchild (62) and Matthew Koerner (51) put on 106 for Collegiate’s second wicket, but the innings fell away somewhat after that, and they closed on 217-8, Abbas Ahmed taking 5-50 for Shiregreen. Rockingham Colliery 2nds in fourth place also lost ground on the leaders after losing at home to Worsbrough Bridge, for whom Lewis Wilkinson took 4-14 when the hosts were bowled out for 76, a target that Bridge passed for the loss of three wickets in the 23rd over. Todd Saxelby (73) and Waris Abbas (64 not out) helped Frecheville Community to 238-6 against Bradfield Village Fellowship at the Hobson Bowl. Shahid Mohammed then took 5-32 when the visitors were bowled out for 89 in reply. George Deegan took 4-20 for Higham to help them bowl Treeton 2nds out for 143 at Washfield Lane. Jon Boden then took 4-34 for the hosts, but could not stop Higham completing a two-wicket win with two overs to spare.
Sprotbrough 2nds remain unbeaten in Division 4 at the halfway point, after comfortably dispatching their nearest rivals, Barnsley Woolley Miners 3rds, at Woolley. Samuel Longley (61) and Will Rudkin (90 off 63 balls) gave the visitors a decent total of 253-7 to bowl at, then Nick Graves took 5-51 when the hosts were bowled out for 137 in reply. Sheffield University Staff remain joint-third after restricting Sheffield Collegiate 4ths to 188-7 at Warminster Road; Karthik Subramanya (69) then gave the Staff a solid start in reply, and they won by six wickets with three overs to spare. Also in joint third are Thorncliffe & Wentworth, who lost more ground on the leaders after a narrow defeat by Doncaster Town 3rds at Lound Side. Muhammad Ali Shabir took 6-17 as the hosts were restricted to 144-9; then an unbeaten 40 by number eight Archie Pierson helped Town to gain a one-wicket win with four balls left, despite the efforts of Michael Gilmour (4-26). Kexborough continued their recent improved form when skipper Danny Bowering (57) led them to 197 all out away to Stocksbridge, for whom Andrew Hibbert took 5-33. Suthaharan Nadesapillai (4-33) and Thava Nig (4-19) then bowled the hosts out for 100 in reply. Ryan Tingle made 50 out of Upper Haugh 2nds’ 204 all out at home to Barnby Dun, for whom Ciaran McCarthy took 5-48, then Muraad Ghani was in the wickets again with 5-38 as Barnby Dun were dismissed for 119 in reply. Coal Aston 2nds were bowled out for 167 by Wombwell Main at Stonelow, then Sam Hudson took 4-34 when the visitors replied, but he was unable to prevent them from edging to a two-wicket win with two overs to spare.
Division 5 remains at tight as ever, 18 points covering the top seven clubs. Dinitha Lokuliyanage (82) and Alex Clemo (83) put on 166 for leaders Ackworth 2nds’ third wicket in their 257 all out at home to Maltby Miners Welfare, for whom Liam Woodward took 5-79. Nial Charles then took 4-48 when the visitors replied, and they were all out for 154. Marcus Hoyland took 5-23 for Penistone 2nds when they bowled second-placed Hatfield Town 2nds out for 120 at Carr Side Lane, but Carl Walton took 4-23 when the visitors replied, and they were all out two runs short of their target. Third-placed Hallam 3rds were 56-7 against Warmsworth 2nds at Common Lane, before the lower order helped them rally to 142-9. Neil Mountjoy then took 4-18 when the hosts were all out for 85 in reply. Edward Driver (57) top-scored in Silkstone United’s 222-9 against Whiston Parish Church 2nds at Church Fields, whilst Aura Kent took 4-31 for the hosts. Callum Gray then took 5-40 and Whiston were all out for 143 in reply. At Pinfold Lane, 46 from number nine Matthew Turner boosted Conisbrough 2nds from 96-7 to 175 all out, Jacob Meehan taking 4-9 for the hosts. In reply, Fishlake lost half their side for 67, but skipper Tim Elliot (41) led a rally that brought them to within seven runs of victory at 168-9.
Leaders Waverley continue to sweep all before them in Division 6. After losing three early wickets, Sajid Hussain (74) and Reon Jerome (81 not out) helped them to 275-8 against Darfield 2nds at School Lane. Vishnu Das Devadas then returned 5-2-10-7 as the hosts were bowled out for 84 in reply. Dominic Proctor took 4-26 for second-placed Thorpe Hesley & High Green 2nds away to Mexborough Athletic, for whom Joseph Carroll made 53 out of their 161-9. The visitors did not have matters all their own way in reply, but they edged to a two-wicket win in the 37th over. Millhouses Works 2nds remain two points behind Thorpe Hesley after their win over fellow-contenders Green Moor at Millhouses Park. Satvir Singh made 76 in the visitors’ 202-9, whilst Rabnawaz Khan took 5-32 for Works. In the hosts’ reply, Satinderpal Singh took 7-59 and reduced them to 91-7, but Amir Raiz made an unbeaten 80 off 40 balls and Works overhauled their target by two wickets in the 30th over. Skipper Jamie Oliver made an unbeaten 62 for Scholes & Harley in their 242-6 at home to Wadworth, for whom Addison Senior made 67 in reply, but Michael Dearden took 4-44 and the visitors were all out for 200. Elliott Ashton made 70 in Whitley Hall 3rds’ 195-8 at Green Moor against Handsworth Junior SC, for whom Waqar Hussain took 4-34. Waheed Bhati (81 not out) and Akhtar Khan (50 not out) then put on an unbroken third-wicket partnership of 157 to take Handsworth to an eight-wicket win in the 34th over. Skipper Richard Berry (80) led Wickersley Old Village 3rds to 250-8 against Sheffield Caribbean 2nds at Brookhouse, then Owen Taylor took 4-58 to help Wickersley bowl their visitors out for 203, Abubakr Rasool top-scoring with 60.
Rafaqat Hussain (41) top-scored for Sheffield United 2nds when they chased down Doncaster Town 4ths’ 140 all out to win by three wickets and take over at the top of Division 7. Rohan Ardley (57) and Ian Davis (59 not out) helped joint-second Parkhead 2nds to 184 all out against Upper Haugh 3rds at Hooton Pagnell, and Joseph Fulk took 5-46 when the hosts made 159-9 in reply. William King made an unbeaten 52 to help Rockingham Colliery 3rds overhaul Adwick-le-Streets’ 114 all out, and they move up to joint-fourth. Gareth Kilburn took 4-22 in Stocksbridge 2nds’ 174-8 away to Higham 2nds but Chris Thwaites also took 4-22 and with four wickets also from Rowan Cogger, the hosts were all out for 158 in reply. Hennie Swart made 59 out of Bradfield Village Fellowship 2nds’ 162-9 at home to Brookhouse, for whom Thomas Snow took 4-22, but Luc Meijer took 4-24 when the visitors replied, and they were all out for 122. Barnsley Woolley Miners 4ths conceded to Handsworth Junior SC 2nds, who move level with Rockingham in fourth.
Shokoor Ahmadzai (4-10) and skipper Gul Safi (4-15) helped Division 8 leaders Houghton Main 2nds bowl Kexborough 2nds out for 101 at Bence Lane, having been 51-8. Safi’s unbeaten 35 then steered the leaders to a four-wicket win. Rahimullah Khil took 4-22 for second-placed Norton Woodseats 2nds when they bowled local rivals Norton Oakes 2nds out for 102 at Matthews Lane, but the hosts were 39-6 before completing a two-wicket win in the 26th over. Connor Turford (5-31) took a second successive ‘five-for’ to help third-placed Wombwell Main 2nds bowl Monk Bretton 2nds out for 58 at the I-Source Stadium, and the hosts then completed a nine-wicket win in the ninth over. Christopher Jarvis (68) and Narender Manohar (63 not out) helped fourth-placed Hallam 4ths to 254-6 at home to Eden Grove Parklands, for whom Daniel Morton made 105 in reply, but he received little support and the visitors were all out for 175. There were forties from Rohail Habib and Alan Moore in Barnby Dun 2nds’ 146-8 against Thorncliffe & Wentworth 2nds at Glass Park, then opener Kamran Younis (55) set up the visitors’ seven-wicket win. Harry Gateley took 6-18 for Sprotbrough 3rds when they bowled Dearne out for 58 at Furlong Road, but the visitors lost four wickets for four runs before completing a four-wicket win.
Kevin Taylor (68) ensured that lowly Silkstone United 2nds had something to bowl at when they made 156-9 at home to all-conquering Division 9 leaders Frickley Colliery 2nds, but opener Adam Wilkinson hit an unbeaten 109 off 64 balls as the visitors made light work of their target, completing a seven-wicket win in the 21st over. Second-placed Waverley 2nds bowled bottom side Wath 3rds out for 67 and then knocked off the required runs for no loss in the eighth over. Beatrice Tootill (4.5-3-8-3) and Dave Hadley (46) were the star performers for Sheffield University Staff 2nds when they bowled Eden Grove Parklands 2nds out for 100 and then claimed a two-wicket win to keep pace with the leading group. Opener Jack Pearson (74) led the way for Elsecar 3rds in their 235-7 against Frecheville Community 2nds, and Freddie Rowbottom took 4-31 when Frecheville made 157-9 in reply. John Grayson (114) got Oughtibridge War Memorial 3rds off to a fine start in their 206-8 against Scholes & Harley 2nds at Wentworth, but David Bell (77) then led the visitors to a four-wicket win, despite Rituparna Ghose’s 4-30. Mid-table Whiston Forge 2nds made a formidable 275 all out against Mexborough Athletic 2nds, whom they then contained to 218-8 in reply. Worsbrough Bridge 2nds remain in third place after opponents Fishlake 2nds conceded.
On Sunday, in the K3 Dental Trophy, there were three inter-league ties, with the YCSPL sides progressing to the semi-finals in two. Jaden Fell (107) and Charlie Kaye (82) helped Doncaster Town to 272-8 against Clifton Alliance, and there were three wickets each for George Cowan and Joe Gallagher when Alliance were all out for 132 in reply. Joe Billings made 91 in Wakefield Thornes’ 289-7 at Driffield, then Charlie Bourne and Mohammed Uzair Mumtaz took three wickets each when the hosts were dismissed for 176 in reply. Cawthorne were all out for 122 at home to Woodhouse Grange, who made light work of their target, easing to an eight-wicket win in the 19th over.
In the Billy Oates Memorial Cup, Frickley Colliery 2nds overwhelmed Upper Haugh 3rds, with fifties for Akash Rawal and Tom Collis in their 268-8, then five bowlers each took two wickets when their visitors were all out for 78 in reply. Julian Bates (57 not out) helped Green Moor to 156-9 against Rockingham Colliery 3rds, who were all out for 94 in reply. Reon Jerome’s 83 off 64 balls was the highlight of Waverley 2nds’ 252-9 against Whitley Hall 3rds, for whom Max Temple made 67 at the top of the order in reply, but they were all out for 190. Hasan Ali (69) and Abulbakr Rasool (97 not out) put on 125 for the first wicket in Sheffield Caribbean 2nds’ 265-6 against Wickersley Old Village 3rds, for whom Max Robinson top-scored with 61 in their 243 all out in reply.
