Defeats for the two leading clubs in the Premier Division and wins for the sides in third and fourth mean that the top of the table is quite congested, with 18 points separating the top five teams. Etienne Du Toit took 5-35 for Appleby Frodingham to help them bowl leaders Wakefield Thornes out for 175, and then skipper Alex Grimes (90 not out) led his side to a three-wicket win with two balls to spare. Sheffield Collegiate moved up into second place, eight points behind the leaders, after putting Whitley Hall in to bat and bowling them out for 204 at Baxter Field, with Thomas Currie taking 6-25 and Jordan Bethell making 74 at the top of the order for the hosts. Currie then completed an excellent all-round performance with 55 to help his side to a one-wicket win. Cawthorne had started the day in second place, but Mayank Mishra (5-15) and Harry Clewett (4-26) bowled them out for 95 after they had been 56-1, and Harry Warwick then hit an unbeaten 52 as Cleethorpes completed a nine-wicket win in the 18th over and moved up to third, two, points behind Collegiate. Bhargav Merai made a brilliant 124 off 115 balls, putting on 144 for the fourth wicket with Harsha Rajapaksha (64) in fourth-placed Doncaster Town’s 295-7 at home to Wickersley Old Village, for whom Sam Drabble took 5-62. Opener Abdul Qayoom (107) led a spirited response for the visitors, adding 155 for the second wicket with Vishvaraj Jadeja (71) but the task was just too steep, and they closed 27 short on 268-5. There was an important win for Hallam, who have moved out of the bottom two, in a reduced-over game against Barnsley Woolley Miners at Crimicar. Arith Ravi took 4-43 when the visitors were all out for 192 in their 42 overs, having been put in to bat; then opener Andre Bradford (88 not out) and Christian Leddicoat (53) won the game with a fourth-wicket stand of 95 and the hosts got home by six wickets. Shiregreen put visitors Tickhill in to bat at Hatfield House Lane and bowled them out for 125, but Josh Court then took 6-29 to help bowl Shiregreen out for 70 in reply.
Rory Daburger (14.1-4-18-7) was the match-winner in the game of the day in the Championship Division, helping leaders Doncaster Town 2nds bowl Sprotbrough out for 89 at Melton Road. Parteek Khasa took 5-37 when the visitors replied, and they struggled too, edging home by two wickets to increase their lead at the top of the table. Whiston Parish Church move up to second, also in a tight affair, away to Elsecar. Musa Altaf took 5-32 as the visitors were bowled out for 165; and in reply Elsecar were 71-7 before Joe Denby gave them hope with a fighting 52, but they fell just short on 161 all out. Tate Miller took 5-39 to help reduce Aston Hall to 68-8 against Sheffield Collegiate 2nds at Abbeydale, before Adam Clarke (44 not out) led a lower order fightback that took the visitors to 172 all out. The visitors put up a real fight, using six bowlers and reducing Collegiate to 139-7 before claiming a three-wicket win with eleven balls left. Fifth-placed Ackworth were all out for 243 against Tickhill 2nds at the Brookfield Oval, Shinghi Masakadza contributing 50; then opener James Wilkes made 106 when the hosts replied, but Joshua Hen-Boisen took 5-72 and they were restricted to 232-9. Mark Cummins batted throughout Treeton’s 163-7 at home to Rockingham Colliery, then Ben Dalton’s 104 carried the Colliery to a nine-wicket win. Lachlan Jacobs’ 117 helped bottom club Wath to post 245-7 away to Oughtibridge War Memorial; then skipper Rob Barlow took 6-53 when the hosts were all out for 210, despite 95 from Hamzah Ilyas.
Connor Snelgrove took 4-31 for Wickersley Old Village 2nds to help them bowl Division 1 leaders Upper Haugh out for 174 at Northfield Lane, then skipper Nathan Taylor (92) steered Wickersley to a six-wicket win in the 49th over. Syed Shah’s 81 was the backbone of Darfield’s 211-7 at home to Whitley Hall 2nds and there were three run outs when the visitors made 153 all out in reply, and Darfield move up to second. Coal Aston, second overnight, bowled Warmsworth out for 140 at Stonelow, but after Dave Rodgers had steered the hosts to 57-0 in reply, Dominic McGough took 5-30 and they were all out three short on 137. Riaz Khan (118 off 87 balls) and Akash Rawal (54) helped Houghton Main to a formidable 360-9 against Conisbrough at Park Road. Josh Whitaker made 88 at the top of the order in the hosts’ reply, but the task was too tall, and they were 258-9 at the close. Barnsley Woolley Miners 2nds bowled Monk Bretton out for 153 at Shaw Lane, then Andrew Clayton (57) and Freddie Egginton (58 not out) steered the hosts to an eight-wicket win in the 34th over.
In the top game in Division 2, Kieran McIntyre (4-51) and Jason Mills (6-33) bowled Cawthorne 2nds out for 89. Ryan Gibson took 4-58 when Frickley Colliery replied, and they were 56-8 when Jack Danks and Josh Diggles came together in a ninth-wicket partnership of 25 that helped Frickley to a one-wicket win and increases their lead at the top of the table to 30 points. Hallam 2nds were unable to take advantage of Cawthorne’s defeat and remain in third place. Lewis Sansome (72 not out) led Aston Hall 2nds to 247-7 at Green Lane, then Tom Coulson took 4-45 when Hallam made 226-9 in reply, opener Richard Perkins carrying his bat for an unbeaten 94. Safiullah Abrar (115) and Aurav Vinta (75) put on 145 for the third wicket in Wakefield Thornes 2nds’ 285-3 against Millhouses Works at Field Lane. The visitors were 85-6 in reply before John O’Sullivan (59) helped them to a more respectable 208 all out. Saman Iqbal (12.1-4-19-7) did the damage when Elsecar 2nds bowled Norton Woodseats out for 155 at Mathews Lane. The visitors were 69-6 in reply, before Richard Stump’s 42 helped them to a four-wicket win. Mubasher Ali (79) helped Parkhead recover from 54-5 to reach 254 all out at home to Thorpe Hesley & High Green, for whom Ashley Reynolds took 4-72. Hafeez Ali scored 60 in the visitors’ reply, but they were all out for 202. Zayan Khan took 5-21 for Oughtibridge War Memorial 2nds when they bowled Sheffield United out for 98 at Bawtry Road, and the visitors completed a seven-wicket win in 24 overs.
Division 3 leaders Norton Oakes bowled Higham out for 125 at Oakes Park, Daniel Baldwin taking 4-17, but the visitors did not find their task easy when they replied, and they were indebted to Baldwin, who completed an excellent performance with 76 at the top of the order, for their four-wicket win. Skipper David Barrett carried his bat for an unbeaten 57 at the top of the order in Hatfield Town’s 196-9 at home to Worsbrough Bridge, for whom Zarmash Tarakhil took 6-58. The visitors were then bowled out for 102 in reply, and Hatfield are 16 points adrift of the leaders. Tommy Harrison and Luke Proffitt (63) put on 100 for third-placed Sheffield Collegiate 3rds’ third wicket at home to bottom side Bradfield Village Fellowship, but Noah Jackson (4-33) and Mick Bocking (4-47) then put the brakes on and they were all out for 184. In reply Steven Abbs made 44 at the top of the order, but his side were all out for 140. Afad Sohail (126) and skipper Muhammad Naseem (55 not out) helped Shiregreen 2nds to 285-7 against Wath 2nds at Moor Road, and the hosts were restricted to 162-9 in reply. At the bottom end of the table, Sheffield Caribbean put 12 points between themselves and the relegation zone after bowling Treeton 2nds out for 138 at the Common, Bjorn Taylor taking 6-25. Andrew Jackson and Yahya Ahmad (67 not out) then put on an unbroken second-wicket stand of 107 in the hosts’ nine-wicket win. In a mid-table clash at Hoyland Common, Peter Lomas took 5-52 in Frecheville Community’s 153-9 against Rockingham Colliery 2nds, who were all out for 141 in reply, Neil Ramsden claiming 4-46.
Idris Khan (5-41) and Nick Graves (5-13) bowled Barnby Dun out for 106 at Glass Park, to set up a four wicket win for unbeaten Division 4 leaders Sprotbrough 2nds, for whom Scott Sykes remained unbeaten with 47 whilst wickets fell around him in the visitors’ reply. Second-placed Barnsley Woolley Miners 3rds lost ground when they were beaten by Kexborough at Woolley. Zain Ali took 4-28 in the visitors’ 150 all out after being put in to bat, but Robert Mynett took 4-50 and Barnsley were all out for 138 in reply. Skipper Gurvinder Singh (130 not out) and David Plummer (59) helped Upper Haugh 2nds to 289-4 at home to Wombwell Main. Matthew Tonks (53) and skipper Jonathan Scaife (73) helped the visitors to 162-2, but Singh proved the match-winner with 5-39 in a remarkable all-round performance, and Wombwell finished on 210-9. Upper Haugh and Sheffield University Staff are now level with Barnsley amongst the promotion contenders, Waqas Tanveer taking 4-9 when the Staff bowled out Stocksbridge for 64 in their seven-wicket win at Warminster Road. Skipper Connor Brunt made 108 at the top of the order for Thorncliffe & Wentworth, who were all out for 163 against Coal Aston 2nds, for whom Eliot Tye took 4-41 and Joshua Cross 5-16. In reply, Coal Aston lost half their side for 65, but Chris Riley (48 not out) guided them to a four-wicket win. Muhammad Shabir took 6-36 to help Doncaster Town 3rds bowl Sheffield Collegiate 4ths out for 132 at Blaxton, then Alex Rudkin made 54 in the hosts’ six-wicket win.
In Division 5, leaders Ackworth 2nds are 14 points clear after beating struggling Penistone 2nds at home. Arran Taylor took 4-30 when the visitors made 141-9, and Dinitha Lokuliyanaga made 49 in the hosts’ six-wicket win. Whiston Forge are second after beating fellow promotion contenders Hallam 3rds at Guilthwaite Hill. Opener Omar Waine made 43 when the hosts chased down 138 to win for six wickets. Warmsworth 2nds kept themselves in contention when they posted 150-6 against Hatfield Town 2nds, second overnight, at Common Lane, then bowled their visitors out for 87. There was a low-scoring mid-table encounter at Barnsley Road, where Silkstone United were all out for 81 against Maltby Miners Welfare, Gary Porter taking 4-14, but then Chris Barraclough (6-15) and Emilia Rossi (4-17) bowled Maltby out for 41 in reply. Shabaz Qadeer (84) helped Whiston Parish Church 2nds to 195 all out against bottom side Conisbrough 2nds, for whom skipper Tom Humphries took 5-67. In reply, Humphries made 57 at the top of the order, but Shadab Ahmed took 5-39 and Conisbrough were all out for 146.
With Division 6 leaders Waverley not in action, Thorpe Hesley & High Green 2nds narrowed the gap at the top to 20 points with two wins over the weekend. On Saturday, they bowled fellow promotion-contenders Green Moor out for 197 at Smithywood Road, Satvir Singh making 89 for the visitors, then forties from Chris Fisher and Iain MacDonald took the hosts to a four-wicket win. On Sunday, Thorpe Hesley recorded a narrow win over Sheffield Caribbean 2nds at the Common. Rob Horne took 4-26 when the visitors were bowled out for 124, then, in reply, Chris Fisher made 55 whilst wickets fell at the other end, to steer his side to a two-wicket win. Millhouses Works 2nds are two points further back in third after bowling bottom side Darfield 2nds out for 105, Andy Belfield taking 7-27, then recording a five-wicket win. Mohammed Hussain made 85 in Handsworth Junior SC’s 183 all out against Wadworth, who were all out for 88 in reply. Brooklyn Whitmill made 78 for Wickersley Old Village 3rds in their 229 all out against Mexborough Athletic, for whom Brandon Cooke took 5-58. In reply, Lee Jeffries made 58, but Athletic were all out for 196. Fifties from Muhammad Sami, Abubakr Rasool and Liaquat Ali helped Sheffield Caribbean 2nds to 209-7 against Scholes & Harley, and they then restricted their opponents to 169-6 in reply, Michael Dearden and skipper Jamie Oliver making fifties for Scholes.
Division 7 leaders Sheffield United 2nds were made to work hard by Upper Haugh 3rds. The hosts were all out for 121 at Hooton Pagnell, but they then claimed seven wickets before United gained the win that keeps them 12 points clear at the top. Liam Bishop (75) and Christopher Jeeves (75 not out) put on 141 for the fourth wicket in Adwick-le-Street’s 271-5 against Higham 2nds at Royd Lane, and Teddy Lovejoy then took 5-45 as the hosts were all out for 168 in reply, opener Luke Woodhouse (62) and Steven Vickers (62) the only players to reach double figures. Parkhead 2nds dropped below Adwick into third place after they bowled Brookhouse out for 138, Jack Groom taking 5-16, but were all out for 73 in reply. Opener Paul Garnett’s unbeaten 107 was the foundation for Bradfield Village Fellowship 2nds’ 188-5 against Rockingham Colliery 3rds, but an unbeaten 65 from James Peet helped the Colliery remain in contention for promotion with a three-wicket win. There was a low-scoring game at Oliver’s Mount, where Doncaster Town 4ths were all out for 80, then Stuart MacPhee (5-27) and Joe Horrocks (4-9) bowled Handsworth Junior SC 2nds out for 71 in reply. Barnsley Woolley Miners 4ths conceded against Stocksbridge 2nds.
In Division 8, leaders Houghton Main 2nds had an emphatic win over Eden Grove Parklands at Middlecliffe Lane, maintaining their eight-point lead at the top. Mohammed Zaman top-scored for the hosts with 51 in their 279-9, then Gul Safi took 4-33 when the visitors were restricted to 127-7 in reply, Daniel Morton making 62. Elliot Mann’s 108 off 61 balls set second-placed Wombwell Main 2nds on their way to 347-6 at home to bottom side Barnby Dun 2nds, who were all out for 109 in reply, last man Elliot Gurnhill making 57. Norton Oakes 2nds kept up the pressure on the top two with a four-wicket win over Hallam 4ths at Sandygate, after Chris Baker had taken 5-32 in the hosts’ 136-7. Ben Whitehouse took 4-31 when Dearne bowled Norton Woodseats 2nds out for 118 at Furlong Road, and then made an unbeaten 64 in the hosts’ eight-wicket win. Thomas Glover top-scored with 53 in Monk Bretton 2nds’ 175-7 against Sprotbrough 2nds, who were all out for 97 in reply. An unbeaten 87 from Josh Shillito helped Thorncliffe & Wentworth 2nds to 205-9 against Kexborough 2nds, who were all out for 108 in reply, 70 of those coming from Thomas Woods.
In Division 9, leaders Frickley Colliery 2nds got back on the winning trail when Marcus Heppinstall (76) led them to 252-7 against Frecheville Community 2nds, for whom Aadil Hussain took 4-52. Frecheville were then all out for 111 in reply. Waverley 2nds had a comprehensive ten-wicket win over Mexborough Athletic 2nds, who were all out for 84 at Totley, before the hosts eased past their target without loss in the 16th over. Worsbrough Bridge 2nds lost ground on the leaders when they were bowled out for 72 by Scholes & Harley 2nds, for whom Matthew Holmes took 4-14, and then an unbeaten 46 from Callum Holmes took Scholes to a seven-wicket win. Hiren Jeyakanth (54) led Fishlake 2nds to 160-6 against Sheffield University Staff 2nds, who were all out for 92 in reply. Whiston Forge 2nds made 173-6 against Eden Grove Parklands 2nds, who were all out for 113 in reply. Oughtibridge War Memorial 3rds conceded against Elsecar 3rds and Wath 3rds conceded against Silkstone United 2nds.
On Sunday, in the Mick Savage Trophy semi-finals, Oscar Oborne-Corby took 4-49 and Michael Hunter 4-39 for Coal Aston when they bowled Conisbrough out for 214 at Park Road, Buddhika Bopitiyaga making 62 for the hosts. Jon Trower (78 not out) and Harry Simpson (63) then settled the game with a stand of 132 for the fourth wicket, and the visitors won by six wickets. In the other semi, Shawn Hopkins took 3-5 for Upper Haugh when they bowled Frickley Colliery out for 90, on their way to an eight-wicket win.
