In the ‘top against bottom’ clash in the Premier Division at Hatfield House Lane, leaders Wakefield Thornes were put in to bat by Shiregreen and bowled out for 174, with Joe Billings hitting a half-century and four wickets each for Abdul Latif and Ahmadzai Shahidi. In reply, the hosts were all out for 126, Sam Wisniewski taking 5-48. Doncaster Town are eight points behind the leaders after Bhargav Nerai (95) led them to 199-6 against champions Cleethorpes, who were all out for 107 in reply, Curtis Free taking 6-34. Henry Eldred took 4-22 to help Sheffield Collegiate bowl Cawthorne out for 85 after asking them to bat first at Dark Lane; they then completed a seven-wicket win in the 15th over. Whitley Hall put Tickhill in to bat at Baxter Field, and Dan Waldron took 5-55 as the visitors were bowled out for 200, despite a fifth wicket stand of 103 between Danyaal Khalid (50) and Mike Jepps (49). In reply, skipper James Brown (52 not out) and Neil Longhurst (60) put on 101 for their third wicket to help the hosts to a six-wicket win with 12 overs to spare. Matt Morland (59) and Etienne Du Toit (92) were amongst the runs in Appleby Frodingham’s 241-4 against Barnsley Woolley Miners at Brumby Hall. In reply, the visitors were 107-6 before Charlie Taylor (53) and Jash Giyanani (50) gave them hope with a seventh-wicket stand of 90, but the last four wickets then fell for nine runs and the hosts completed a 35-run win. There was a first win of the season for Wickersley Old Village, for whom skipper Iftikhar Afzal took 5-58 when they bowled Hallam out for 189 at Crimicar, Christian Leddicoat top-scoring with an unbeaten 55 for the hosts. James Butler (63) then got Wickersley off to a good start in reply, and they won by five wickets with an over to spare.
Tickhill 2nds remain on top of the Championship Division, after putting Aston Hall in to bat at the Brookfield Oval and restricting them to 180-7, Gerard Coetzee top-scoring for the visitors with 57. The hosts then completed a five-wicket win in the 47th over. Four points behind the leaders are Whiston Parish Church, who bowled Sheffield Collegiate 2nds out for 103 at Abbeydale, then knocked off the runs for the loss of five wickets in the 23rd over. Ryan Alahakon took 4-27 for Doncaster Town 2nds, who bowled Elsecar out for 117 at the Al-Murad Stadium; the visitors then recording a six-wicket win in the 37th over. Daniel Wright (11-6-11-4) and Parteek Khasa (6-21) combined to bowl Wath out for 33 at Melton Road, and Sprotbrough then raced to a ten-wicket win in just four overs. Ackworth made 192-7 after being asked to bat first by Treeton at Washfield Lane; Luke Townsend then took 4-45 as the hosts were bowled out for 164 in reply. Naveed Arif (56) and Danuka Hettiarachchi (59) were the main run-scorers for Oughtibridge War Memorial, who made 257-9 at Waterside Gardens against bottom club Rockingham Colliery, for whom Lasith Lakshan took 4-45. Sam Patel then took 8-52 to bowl the visitors out for 158 in reply.
Upper Haugh remain four points clear at the top of Division 1 after a comprehensive win over bottom club Penistone. Opener Jawad Saleem (52) and skipper Tommy Hyde (99 not out) led the visitors to 248-6 at Queen Street, then Parvez Asghar was again amongst the wickets with 5-29, and the hosts were bowled out for 101 in reply. Coal Aston kept up the pressure four points behind the leaders, with a hard-earned triumph over Whitley Hall 2nds at Stonelow. Lawrence Browes took 4-19 to help bowl the visitors out for 141 after they had been asked to bat first. Browes then led the reply with 58, but from 118-2, Coal Aston stuttered to a three-wicket win in the 37th over. These two are 14 points clear of Warmsworth, who bowled Conisbrough out for 144 at Park Road. Dominic McGough then hammered 60 off 37 balls to add to his three wickets earlier, and the visitors were able to record a five-wicket win with 17 overs to spare. Houghton Main posted 159-9 against Barnsley Woolley Miners 2nds at Shaw Lane, and then bowled the hosts out for 112 in reply. Nathan Taylor (83) top-scored for Wickersley Old Village 2nds in their 249 all out at home to Monk Bretton, for whom Steven Honeyman took 4-66. The visitors were 96-7 in reply, and although rallied by Eddie Allen’s unbeaten 54, finished 54 short on 195-8.
In Division 2, Cawthorne 2nds and Frickley Colliery took advantage of the overnight leaders’ defeat to move joint-top in the table. Brennan Wilson hit 218 off 165 balls to help Cawthorne record an imposing 342-6 against Sheffield United at Bawtry Road; then Ryan Gibson took 4-29 as the hosts were bowled out for 77 in reply. Frickley skipper Matt Pinder took 6-24 to help his side bowl out bottom side Thorpe Hesley & High Green for 126 after he had asked them to bat first at Westfield Lane; the hosts then won by four wickets, despite the efforts of Rasheed Eddy (4-62). Hallam 2nds move up to third, just behind the top two, after a huge win over previous leaders Parkhead at Ecclesall Road. Richard Perkins (86) and Will Newton (59) put on 144 for the first wicket for the visitors, then Arun Sumanth (81 off 51 balls) and Jonathan Freeman (60 not out off 21 balls) piled on the agony for the hosts. Chasing a massive 386-6, Parkhead were all out for 162, Oliver Harrison making a valiant 72 off 60 balls before being dismissed by Jonathan Freeman, who took 5-15. There was a much tighter game at Matthews Lane, where Dilshan Sukumar and Zayan Khan took four wickets each for Oughtibridge War Memorial 2nds, who bowled Norton Woodseats out for 155 after putting them in to bat; but the visitors were then bowled out for 139 in reply. Edward Fowles took 4-40 for Wakefield Thornes 2nds, who bowled Elsecar 2nds out for 138 after asking them to bat first at Field Lane; Harley Cushan then finishing on 77 not out when Thornes knocked off their modest target for the loss of one wicket in in the 28th over. Peter Chamberlain (50) and Tom Roper (57 not out) helped Millhouses Works to 207 all out after they had been put in to bat by Aston Hall 2nds at Green Lane, Abdul Jamil taking 4-45; Eddie Raper then took 4-22 as the hosts were all out for 148 in reply.
Hatfield Town moved eight points clear at the top of Division 3 after beating Higham at Carr Side Lane, whilst the team they were level on points with at the start of play, Sheffield Collegiate 3rds lost. Hatfield were in real trouble at 45-7, but lower-order contributions lifted them to 154 all out. In reply, Higham were all out for 123, Joshua Hartfield taking 4-19. Ben Fielding took 4-36 to help Collegiate bowl Frecheville Community out for 131 at Abbeydale, but Shahid Mohammed took 4-37 when the visitors replied, and they were all out for 110. Callum East took 4-20 to help Norton Oakes bowl Bradfield Village Fellowship out for 93, and skipper James Thompson was unbeaten on 49 when the Oakes Park side overhauled their modest target for the loss of one wicket in the 20th over, moving them within four points of second place. The tightest game of the day was at Moor Road, where Wath 2nds bowled Worsbrough Bridge out for 127, then struggled past their target with just one wicket to spare, thanks largely to Luke Roddison’s 45. Sheffield Caribbean posted 198 all out against Shiregreen 2nds at the Common, then restricted their visitors to 184-9 in reply. Treeton 2nds conceded to third-placed Rockingham Colliery 2nds.
The game between the top two in Division 4 at Lound Side saw Sprotbrough 2nds further stretch their unbeaten record and move 14 points clear at the top. They were hugely indebted to opener Louis Richardson, who made 88 of their 174 all out against Thorncliffe & Wentworth; then Robert Ibbotson took 4-33 to help dismiss the hosts for 120 in reply. Skipper Alex Gough took 5-32 for third-placed Barnsley Woolley Miners 3rds when they bowled Stocksbridge out for 81 at Woolley, and he was also unbeaten on 44 when the hosts passed their target with eight wickets and 26 overs in hand. Barnby Dun are fourth after Ciaran McCarthy took 7-32 to help them bowl Sheffield Collegiate 4ths out for 71 at Glass Park, on their way to a six-wicket win, albeit after being 15-4 at one point in reply. Coal Aston 2nds made 191-9 against Sheffield University Staff at Warminster Road, Waqas Tanveer taking 4-26. Edward Rabjohn then took 5-36 when the hosts replied, and they were all out for 152. At Blaxton, Wombwell Main beat Doncaster Town 3rds by four wickets, Finley Truman making 54 and Joe Armitage taking 4-41 when the hosts were bowled out for 175; then Jonathan Scaife made 54 to help the visitors to 12 points. Upper Haugh 2nds moved ten points clear of the bottom two when they put Kexborough in to bat at Wentworth Road and bowled them out for 183 with Muhammad Khan taking 4-35; then Chris Pearson hit an unbeaten 50 as the hosts won by five wickets with four overs to spare.
Division 5 leaders Warmsworth 2nds had their lead at the top cut to two points when they were beaten at home by Fishlake. Put in to bat, the hosts reached 143-9, then their visitors also lost nine wickets in reaching their victory target. Whiston Forge, in joint second place, had another big win, this time against Conisbrough 2nds at Guilthwaite Hill. Michael Raleigh hit 61 off 52 balls in their 257-9, then Mark Traquair took 7-29 as the visitors were all out for 65 in reply. Level with Forge are Ackworth 2nds, who bowled Hatfield Town 2nds out for 142 at Ackworth, and then knocked off the necessary runs with six wickets and 12 overs to spare. Hallam 3rds missed the chance to close the gap on the leaders when they were bowled out for 87 by Silkstone United at Barnsley Road, Chris Barraclough taking 4-31. The hosts then struggled in reply, particularly against Ben Lee (4-22), but edged past their target by two wickets. Penistone 2nds moved off the bottom of the table when they beat Whiston Parish Church 2nds by five wickets at Church Fields. Mitchell Duty took 7-23 after the hosts had been put in to bat, and they were bowled out for 72, Penistone then completing a five-wicket win in the 19th over.
Waverley’s unbeaten run in Division 6 continued with a big win over Scholes & Harley at Scholes. Reon Jerome (54) and Vishnu Ajith (63) put on 98 for the visitors’ sixth wicket, helping them reach 261-9, with Tom Wade taking four wickets for the hosts. Jerin Varghese then took 6-17 and Scholes were all out for 100 in reply. Thorpe Hesley & High Green 2nds kept up the pressure in second place, by beating Sheffield Caribbean 2nds at Smithywood Road. Opener Waqar Ahmad made 68 for the visitors, but Chris Fisher took 4-44 to help the hosts bowl them out for 168. Daniel Naylor (52) helped Thorpe Hesley off to a decent start, and they won by six wickets with four balls to spare. Scott Jones (51) and Satinderpal Singh (53) helped Green Moor to 183-8 at Wadworth, for whom James Needham took 4-35. Singh (4-21) and Jones then took seven wickets between them as the hosts were all out for 124 in reply. Millhouses Works 2nds put Wickersley Old Village 3rds in to bat at Millhouses Park, bowled them out for 172, then passed their target with three wickets and three overs to spare. Brandon Cooke took 4-35 to help Mexborough Athletic bowl Handsworth Junior SC out for 130 in reply to their 175-9; and Jordan Watson made 81 for Darfield 2nds in their 213 all out against Whitley Hall 3rds, whom they restricted to 185-8 in reply. Alastair Riddle made 79 in Whitley’s reply, to add to his three earlier wickets, but Joshua Sixsmith took 4-27 to help Darfield to victory.
The joint leaders in Division 7 both profited from their opponents conceding; Doncaster Town 4ths to Upper Haugh 3rds, and Handsworth Junior SC 2nds to Adwick-le-Street. Joseph Fulk (6-14) helped third-placed Parkhead 2nds bowl Higham 2nds out for 73 at Royd Lane, setting up a straightforward nine-wicket win. Rockingham Colliery 3rds were put in to bat by Stocksbridge 2nds at Bracken Moor, but their 170-4 was more than enough to beat their hosts, for whom opener Harry Hurst (68) provided the only real resistance in their 140 all out. Thomas Hogan took 5-44 and then Jasneet Gulati was unbeaten on 76 for Brookhouse to help them to a four-wicket win over Barnsley Woolley Miners 4ths at Rose Lane. Sufian Iqbal took 6-24 for Sheffield United 2nds when they bowled Bradfield Village Fellowship 2nds out for 146 at the Sands, and Shaheen Momand was unbeaten on 52 when the visitors completed a five-wicket win.
Division 8 leaders Monk Bretton 2nds lost their unbeaten record to Thorncliffe & Wentworth 2nds in a close finish at the Castle Ground. Put in to bat, the visitors were all out for 135, but when they replied, the hosts recovered from a poor start and needed only 13 with four wickets left, but Tom Swift (4-16) and Josh Shillito took two wickets each for the addition of just seven runs. David Thorpe (4-23) helped second-placed Norton Woodseats 2nds narrow the gap to the top by bowling Hallam 4ths out for 85 at Sandygate, and although their batsmen struggled in reply, particularly against Narender Manohar (4-27), they edged home by two wickets. Houghton Main 2nds made 177-9 against Sprotbrough 3rds at Middlecliffe Lane, then Waheed Safi took 4-13 when the visitors were all out for 95 in reply. Norton Oakes 2nds kept in contention by bowling Kexborough 2nds out for 82 at Bence Lane, then racing to a nine-wicket win in the 19th over. Connor Turford took 4-26 for Wombwell Main 2nds in Eden Grove Parklands’ 139-9 at the I-Source Stadium, then the hosts completed a three wicket win with seven overs to spare. Dearne put Barnby Dun 2nds in to bat at Furlong Road, Jack Wraith taking 4-17 in the visitors’ 155-9, and the hosts then completed a four-wicket win with 13 overs left.
Frickley Colliery 2nds are now outright leaders in Division 9 after overpowering Fishlake 2nds at Pinfold Lane. Marcus Heppinstall (117) put on 149 for the first wicket with Jack Whale (62) and 122 for the second with Adam Wilkinson (70 not out) in their 271-2. Mark Nurse then took 6-23 when the hosts were bowled out for 79 in reply. Previous joint-leaders Worsbrough Bridge 2nds lost their first game of the season after being bowled out for 105 at home to Whiston Forge 2nds (Rithish Sasikumar 6-3-5-4); Saikumar then top-scored with 41 as the visitors completed a three-wicket win. Lee Moxon took 4-24 in vain for Scholes & Harley 2nds when they bowled Elsecar 3rds out for 156 at Darton, as the visitors were then bowled out for 68 in reply. Billy Haigh took 6-21 for Oughtibridge War Memorial 3rds when they bowled Waverley 2nds out for 126 at Totley, then Denis Smith (51) held the early order together when the visitors won by four wickets. Soory Jeyaraj (58 off 34 balls) boosted Eden Grove Parklands 2nds from 63-6 to 152 all out against Silkstone United 2nds at Parklands, and then recorded 8.5-4-8-4 when the visitors were bowled out for 129 in reply, after Phil Ruston and Chris Bound (50) had put on 83 for the first wicket. Abigail Thorley made 50 at the top of the order for Frecheville Community 2nds when they successfully chased down Mexborough Athletic 2nds’ 154-6 to win by one wicket at the Hobson Bowl. Elsewhere, Sheffield University Staff 2nds beat Wath 3rds by six wickets.
On Sunday, in round 2 of the National Club Knock-Out, Sheffield Collegiate bowled Tickhill out for 116 at the Brookfield Oval, Rubaiyat Abrar taking 4-15. In reply, Collegiate were 22-4 before Samuel Meadows (44) and Abrar (45 not out) added 92 for the fifth wicket to set up a five-wicket win for the visitors.
In the first round of the Whitworth Cup, Dylan McDonald (138 off 81 balls with nine fours and nine sixes) and Jack Clough (134 off 100 balls) put on 250 for Sheffield Collegiate 2nds’ first wicket in their 371-5 against Tickhill 2nds at Abbeydale. Sonny Owens took 4-44 when the visitors were restricted to 166-9 in reply. Spencer Lavender (73) and Jabari Mills (93) helped Darfield to an imposing 311-8 against holders Whiston Parish Church, but after Arman Jaffer (151 not out off 104 balls) and Danny Kemp (61) put on 127 for the third wicket, Jaffer took complete control and led his side to a seven-wicket win with an over to spare. Oughtibridge War Memorial were 66-7 against Elsecar, but although they rallied to 163-9, it was not enough, and when rain ended play for the day, Elsecar were ahead of their DLS target by 22 runs. Nathan Ward made 121 off 105 balls in Aston Hall’s 244-7, and Johan Bothma took 4-17 when they bowled Barnsley Woolley Miners 2nds out for 131 in reply. Jordan Bethel (105) and Lewis Wroe put on 116 for Whitley Hall 2nds’ first wicket in their 224-6 against Sprotbrough at Melton Road. Callum Marsh (70) then top-scored for the hosts and they completed a six-wicket win with five balls to spare. Rockingham Colliery made 167-6 against Wath at Moor Road, then skipper Rob Barlow (62) led his side home by six wickets. Elsewhere, Ackworth beat Doncaster Town 2nds by three wickets, Rory Daburger making 69 in Town’s 242-6, then Daniel Malyan-Walker made 105 off 67 balls to set Ackworth on their way to their three-wicket win. Houghton Main conceded against Treeton.
