The game between the top two Premier Division sides at Town Fields resulted in Doncaster Town losing their unbeaten record and Wakefield Thornes opening up an eight-point lead at the top. Put in to bat, the visitors were 62-5, but Muhammad Uzair Mumtaz made 82 to take them to 166 all out. Charlie Bourne then took six wickets (6-42) for the second week running, as the hosts were bowled out for 136 in reply. Cleethorpes did not have matters all their own way again this week, this time against Wickersley Old Village at Northfield Lane. Hamzah Younis made an unbeaten 80 in the hosts’ 227-7, with Mayank Mishra taking 4-57 for the visitors. No-one really got on top of the bowling in the second innings, but a succession of 20s and 30s saw the visitors home by three wickets with four balls to spare. Jamie Carrington took 8-26 for fourth-placed Sheffield Collegiate, who bowled Barnsley Woolley Miners out for 112 at Shaw Lane, and Shaaiq Choudhry was unbeaten on 54 when the visitors claimed an eight-wicket win in the 25th over. Cawthorne moved into the top half of the table by beating Shiregreen at Dark Lane. The visitors were all out for 213 after being put in to bat, with Mustafa Hussain (65) and Muhammad Moshin Khan (51) the main contributors, Rizwan Sadiq taking 4-41. When the hosts replied, Abdul Latif took the first four wickets with just 44 on the board, but the middle order rallied, and an unbeaten ninth-wicket stand of 67 between Mustafa Shinwari and William Mott got Cawthorne home with two wickets and one over to spare. Christian Leddicoat (50) and William Coates (64) helped Hallam post 235 all out against Tickhill at Crimicar, and then a fine all-round bowling effort saw the visitors bowled out for 121 in reply, and Hallam recorded their first win of the season. Skipper Alex Grimes (79) top-scored for Appleby Frodingham in their 151-7 against Whitley Hall, Callum Bethell taking 4-59 for the visitors. Matt Cartwright, with an unbeaten 55, then helped the visitors to a seven-wicket win, sharing an unbeaten fourth-wicket stand of 80 with James Moorhouse.
In the Championship Division, Nathaniel Wilkes took 4-22 for leaders Tickhill 2nds as they bowled Wath out for 174 at the Brookfield Oval, Lachlan Jacobs top-scoring for the visitors with 55. The hosts then recorded a four-wicket win in the 46th over to maintain their four-point lead in the table. Second-placed Whiston Parish Church bounced back from last week’s defeat with an emphatic win over Rockingham Colliery at Hoyland Common. Tom Bolland took 4-19 as the hosts were bowled out for 87, then Arman Jaffer was unbeaten on 56 when the visitors gained a nine-wicket win in the 21st over. Robert Grace (61) and Rory Daburger (70) were in the runs for Doncaster Town 2nds, who posted 260-6 against Treeton at Washfield Lane. Will Scott made 85 in the hosts’ reply, but they were all out for 161, with Badley Heaps (4-29) and Daburger each claiming four wickets. Jack Clough’s 62 was the principal contribution to Sheffield Collegiate 2nds’ 201-8 against Sprotbrough at Abbeydale, Parteek Khasa claiming 4-33 for the visitors. An unbroken third-wicket stand of 139 between Joe Toole and Callum Marsh (89 not out) then took Sprotbrough to a convincing eight-wicket win in the 46th over. A second-wicket stand of 82 between Zaki Anjam and Ollie Wainwright was the foundation for Aston Hall’s 211-9 away to Ackworth, for whom Robert Withers took 5-55. Johannes Bothma then took 4-19 as the hosts were bowled out for 115 in reply. Lalith Mohan took his second consecutive ‘five-for’ (6-66) for Elsecar as they bowled Oughtibridge War Memorial out for 178 at Waterside Gardens; then Peter Hadfield (75 not out) and Arsalan Mir (72 not out) had an unbroken second-wicket stand of 160 that swept the visitors to a nine-wicket win in 34 overs.
Upper Haugh maintained their lead at the top of Division 1 with a good win at Warmsworth. Habil Arshad took 4-39 as the hosts were bowled out for 188, and then made 57 out of an opening stand of 96 with Jawad Saleem as the visitors gained a six-wicket win in the 36th over. The wickets were shared around at Stonelow when second-placed Coal Aston returned to winning ways after bowling Monk Bretton out for 96. Jack Hall (54) was then in the runs again as the hosts completed a six-wicket win in 26 overs. Darfield kept in touch with the top two by comfortably beating local rivals Houghton Main at School Lane. Anees Hussain took 5-38 as the visitors were bowled out for 151, Riaz Khan top-scoring with 74, then skipper Joe Stickland hit an unbeaten 54 to steer his side home by seven wickets in the 28th over. Josh Whittaker made 55 out of Conisbrough’s 258-9 against Wickersley Old Village 2nds, then Buddhika Bopitiyage took 5-46 when the visitors were bowled out for 155 in reply. Charlie Taylor made an unbeaten 107 off 109 balls in Barnsley Woolley Miners 2nds’ 248-3 at Penistone, for whom Chris Walmsley made 68 in their reply, but they fell 16 short at 232-8.
Luke Davison (85) set unbeaten Division 2 leaders Parkhead on their way to an impressive 276-8 against Sheffield United at Bawtry Road, then Chris Turner and Owen Morris both took 4-24 to bowl the hosts out for 86 in reply. In a high-scoring game at Millhouses Park, opener Brennan Wilson (91) got second-placed Cawthorne 2nds off to a good start when they posted 266-9 against Millhouses Works. Kieren O’Sullivan (69) and Tom Roper (65) put up good resistance in the hosts’ reply, but they were 17 short at 249-9, Harry Airstone taking 4-46. Frickley Colliery put last week’s set-back behind them by chasing down 245 to beat Aston Hall 2nds at Green Lane. Mainak Ray made 54 in the hosts’ 244-8, then Tom Hemingway (55) and Franke Mangham (52 not out) helped the visitors to a four-wicket win with ten balls to spare. Hallam 2nds had a good win, by six wickets away to Norton Woodseats. Jawad Ijaz (65) was the main contributor to the hosts’ 198 all out, then an unbeaten 98 off 97 balls from opener Richard Perkins steered the visitors to victory. Jack Machin (59) and Safiullah Abrar (54) put on 91 for Wakefield Thornes 2nds’ second wicket against Thorpe Hesley & High Green at Field Lane, then George Harrison hit 64 off 35 balls as the hosts amassed 302-5. When Thorpe Hesley replied, Lewis Upton took 5-18 to help bowl them out for 81. Musa Altaf made 97 at the top of the order in Elsecar 2nds’ 251-6 against Oughtibridge War Memorial 2nds at the Al-Murad Stadium, and then the visitors fell ten runs short of their target, despite an unbeaten 107 off 94 balls by Danuka Hettiarachchi.
With Rockingham losing, Hatfield Town and Sheffield Collegiate 3rds are now ten points clear at the top of Division 3. Alex Pepper (53) was in the runs again for Hatfield Town in their 229-8 against Treeton 2nds at Carr Side Lane, then Aiden Coulbeck continued his fine season with 7-30 as the visitors were bowled out for 101 in reply. Greg Mann (79) and Matthew Taylor (96) put on 174 for Sheffield Collegiate 3rds’ second wicket in their 251-6 against Sheffield Caribbean at the Common, and they then restricted their hosts to 154-8 in reply. Skipper James Thompson’s 95 was the backbone of Norton Oakes’ 200-6 against previously unbeaten Rockingham Colliery 2nds at Oakes Park, and Joshua Cross then took 4-41 as the visitors were bowled out for 130 in reply. Alex Clayton took 5-47 for Bradfield Village Fellowship when they bowled Shiregreen 2nds out for 167 at Hatfield House Lane, keeper Hammad Farooq (57) top-scoring for the hosts, then an unbeaten 81 from Stephen Abbs took the visitors to a six-wicket win. Frecheville Community posted 196-8 against Wath 2nds at Moor Road, then Isaac Wainwright’s unbeaten 89 took the hosts to a comprehensive eight-wicket win in the 38th over. Leah Burkinshaw returned 11.2-6-16-5 when Higham bowled Worsbrough Bridge out for 51 at Park Lane, but the visitors then lost four wickets in passing their modest target.
Sprotbrough 2nds retained their unbeaten record at the top of Division 4 with a straightforward win over Kexborough at Melton Road. Ulganathan Sayanthan made 54 as the hosts chased down their visitors’ 160 all out to win by eight wickets in the 28th over. Four points behind the leaders are Thorncliffe & Wentworth, who had to work much harder for an 11-run win over Barnsley Woolley Miners 3rds at Lound Side. Michael Gilmour’s 5-31 proved decisive as the visitors were all out for 136 chasing the hosts’ 147-8. Four clubs are tied on 42 points, 14 behind the top two. One of these, Sheffield University Staff, came out on top by four wickets in a high-scoring encounter with Upper Haugh 2nds at Wentworth Road. Ryan Tingle (113) and Andrew Lintin (58) put on 101 for the sixth wicket in the hosts’ 233 all out, Aden Biddle taking 6-58 for the Staff. Monir Choudhry (64) and Waqas Tanzeer (72 not out) then won it for the visitors with a 103-run fourth-wicket stand. Elliot Tye took 4-24 in vain as Coal Aston 2nds failed to prevent Doncaster Town 3rds from overtaking their 149 all out by three wickets at Blaxton. Nick Ashton’s 6-34 was instrumental in Barnby Dun bowling Stocksbridge out for 117 at Glass Park, and the hosts duly completed a three-wicket win in the 37th over. An opening stand of 152 between England over-60s opener Nick Gaywood (88) and Luke Profitt (55) was the foundation for Sheffield Collegiate 4ths’ 247-8 against Wombwell Main at Abbeydale. Jonathan Scaife (85) led a spirited response by the visitors, but Gaywood then also claimed three vital wickets as the visitors fell 13 short on 234-8.
Warmsworth 2nds took advantage of Ackworth not being in action to return to the top of Division 5 by beating Whiston Parish Church 2nds by four wickets at Church Fields. Stuart Setterington took 4-41 as the hosts were bowled out for 120. There were four wickets each for Alex Brown and Carl Walton as Hatfield Town 2nds bowled Silkstone United out for 206, then Wiqas Sikander (81 not out) and Gareth Stent (50) took the visitors to a six-wicket win with a stand of 94 for the fourth wicket. There was a big win for Whiston Forge, for whom Omar Waine (59) and Daniel Rose (66) were in the runs in their 253-6 against Fishlake at Guilthwaite Hill. Josh Cooke then took 5-12 to bowl the visitors out for 127 in reply. Conisbrough 2nds picked up their first win of the season after they bowled Hallam 3rds out for 148, with Scott Harris taking 4-30. Kripal Singh (69) and Ian Hubery added 92 for the hosts’ third wicket in reply, and Conisbrough edged their way to a two wicket win, but only after Chris Brownlee (5-42) caused some flutters, with six wickets falling for four runs before the target was reached. Callum Fuller hit 66 in Maltby Miners Welfare’s 202-8 against Penistone 2nds at Muglet Lane, then Gary Porter continued his excellent early-season form with 6-27 to help his side to a 93-run win.
Waverley also continued their good form and remain unbeaten at the top of Division 6 after a 50-run win over Handsworth Junior SC at Oliver’s Mount. Sajid Hussain (60) and Nideesh Alukkal (59) helped them to 225-6 before they bowled their hosts out for 175. Thorpe Hesley & High Green 2nds are second, after returning to winning ways against Wickersley Old Village 3rds at Smithywood Road. Iain MacDonald made 55 in their 174 all out, Richard Berry taking 5-24 for the visitors; then Rob Horne took 5-28 as Wickersley were all out for 80 in reply. Green Moor lost ground on the leaders when they were bowled out for 144 by Sheffield Caribbean 2nds, who then edged to a one-wicket win, despite Satvir Singh’s 4-42. Joe Chatterton took 5-15 in ten overs when Whitley Hall 3rds bowled Mexborough Athletic out for 143 at the Beecroft Estates ground, then Ben Gillott (67 not out) led the visitors to a nine-wicket win. Michael Dearden made 120 for Scholes & Harley in their 238-4 against Millhouses Works 2nds at Scholes, then the visitors fell 15 short after John Woods (79) and Amir Riaz (60) had threatened to win it for them, Callum Sverdloff’s 4-35 proving decisive.
The joint leaders in Division 7 both enjoyed comfortable wins. Upper Haugh 3rds racked up 296-6 against Higham 2nds at Royd Lane, then Lucas Hawke took 4-36 as the hosts were all out for 104 in reply. Stocksbridge 2nds made 198-6 at home to Adwick-le-Street before James Wadsworth (88 not out) and skipper Matthew Eades (93) put on 183 for the first wicket to set up the visitors’ nine-wicket win. Doncaster Town 4ths kept in touch with the leaders with a 69-run win over Brookhouse at Rose Lane, Cliff Wilson taking 4-30 as the visitors were bowled out for 148 in response to 217-5. Rohan Ardley (70) and Nathaniel Sloane (59) put on 108 for Parkhead 2nds’ first wicket in their 246-5 at home to Sheffield United 2nds, who were all out for 190 in reply. Rockingham Colliery 3rds bowled Barnsley Woolley Miners 4ths out for 82 at Woolley, then struggled to a three-wicket win. Hennie Swart, with an unbeaten 109 off 93 balls, was again the main man for Bradfield Village Fellowship 2nds, in their 199-5 against Handsworth Junior SC 2nds at the Sands, but an unbeaten 77 off 48 balls from Mohammad Aslan then helped the visitors to a two-wicket win.
Only Monk Bretton 2nds are now unbeaten in Division 8, after beating Barnby Dun 2nds by eight wickets at the Castle Ground. Shokoor Ahmadzai recorded 7.4-4-9-4 to help Houghton Main 2nds bowl out overnight joint leaders Norton Woodseats 2nds for 93 at Middlecliffe Lane, and the hosts then eased to a six-wicket win. Thorncliffe & Wentworth 2nds bowled Sprotbrough 3rds out for 95 at Bullcroft, with Tom Swift taking 4-14, and the visitors then lost six wickets reaching their modest target. Seth Warrington scored an unbeaten 151 for Norton Oakes 2nds, putting on 148 for the third wicket with Stephen Cook, in their 239-4 against Eden Grove Parklands; then Chris Baker took 5-21 as Parklands were bowled out for 116 in reply. Connor Turford took 4-25 to help Wombwell Main 2nds bowl Hallam 4ths out for 181, despite 72 from Narender Manohar; then Elliot Mann (63 not out) and Rob Owen (89 not out) put on an unbroken second wicket stand of 142 to ease Wombwell to a nine-wicket win. Kexborough 2nds beat Dearne by 51 runs at Bence Lane.
Frickley Colliery 2nds and Worsbrough Bridge 2nds remain unbeaten in Division 9. The former restricted Mexborough Athletic 2nds to 110-8, and overhauled their target with seven wickets left. Bridge made 251 all out against Wath 3rds at Wentworth, Darren Newton (73) and Jonathon Holden (93) the main contributors, whilst Dylan Gibbs took 4-29 for the hosts, who were bowled out for 155 in reply, Adnan Asher taking 4-26. Akhil Babu hit 117 off 73 balls in Waverley 2nds’ daunting 313-8 against Silkstone United 2nds, who were all out for 59 in reply. Joseph Kemp (68) and skipper Richard Stump (81 not out) led the way for Elsecar 3rds in their 228-7 against Eden Grove Parklands 2nds at Darton, and the visitors were bowled out for 130 in reply. Sheffield University Staff 2nds bowled Oughtibridge War Memorial 3rds out for 129 at Warminster Road and beat them by five wickets. John Kemp’s unbeaten 93 helped Fishlake 2nds to 181-5 against Scholes & Harley 2nds at Pinfold Lane, and the visitors were restricted to 157-8 in reply, with David Bell unbeaten on 72. Adam Gibson recorded 10-3-17-7 to bowl Whiston Forge 2nds out for 100 in reply to Frecheville Community 2nds’ 162-8.
Sunday saw the Group Stage in the League’s two T20 competitions. In the T20 Blast, Tickhill won Group A at the Brookfield Oval, with wins over Appleby Frodingham and Cawthorne; Sheffield Collegiate won Group B at Abbeydale with wins over Hallam and Whitley Hall, Josh Varley recording the day’s best bowling of 4-17 against the former; and Doncaster Town beat Barnsley Woolley Miners twice at Town Fields to qualify in Group C. In Group D at Field Lane, Kieran Donnachie hit 160 off 71 balls, with 21 fours and seven sixes, adding 168 in a second-wicket partnership with Joe Billings (73), to take Wakefield Thornes to the day’s best score of 257-2, and a 123-run win, against Shiregreen; Donnachie then scored 54 in an opening stand of 108 with Muhamed Uzair Mumtaz (92 off 50 balls) as Thornes qualified for the semi-finals by beating Wickersley Old Village.
In the T20 Plate, 2024 National Plate winners Ackworth were eliminated in Group C on their own ground, when they lost in the group decider by two wickets to Aston Hall after both sides had previously beaten Oughtibridge War Memorial. Ackworth were restricted to 90-9, Harry Renshaw taking 4-17, then Aston Hall slumped to 41-8 in reply, before skipper Johan Bothma and Renshaw added an unbroken 53 for the ninth wicket to give their side a two-wicket win. In Group A, at Stonelow, Upper Haugh beat Coal Aston in the decider by eight runs, Habil Arshad the match-winner with 75 out of Upper Haugh’s 136 all out, after both sides had beaten Parkhead. Sprotbrough beat Elsecar and Wath to win Group B at the Al-Murad Stadium, and Whiston Parish Church won Group D at Washfield Lane after Bilal Afzal (65) and Joe Norbury (74) had given them a great start with an opening stand of 130 in the first game, against Treeton, and they overwhelmed Darfield by 112 runs in the decider.
