Saturday’s trip to second-bottom Treeton looked anything but straightforward for Premier Division leaders Cleethorpes when Fiontan Logan (93) and Joe Norbury (32) took the hosts to 98-0 after they were put in to bat, but Harry Clewett (4-47) and Mayank Mishra (3-47) then took over, and with no-one else reaching double figures, Treeton were all out for 162. After Tom Keast (34) had got the visitors off to a brisk start in reply, Harry Warwick made an unbeaten 56 to see his side to a six-wicket win in the 29th over. The Seasiders now lead the division by 16 points after nearest challengers Tickhill went down by 16 runs away to third-placed Wakefield Thornes at Field Lane. Also put in to bat, Thornes were 126-5 after James Rhodes (32) and Joe Billings (43) were out, but Freddie Egleston (33) and Matty Taylor (55) took them to 194-8. In the visitors’ reply, Rhett Bridgens came in when his side were 7-2 to make a determined unbeaten 71, but he lacked support, and his side were 178-9 at the end, Taylor taking 3-58 for the hosts. Fourth-placed Doncaster Town were put in to bat by Shiregreen at the Eco Power Oval and were soon in trouble at 19-3. Abdul Lateef, Mustafa Hussain and Muhammed Ilyas then took three wickets each as the hosts were bowled out for 147. In reply, the visitors were 42-5, James Dobson (5-37) taking three early wickets, but skipper Aslam Hayat (45) and Hammad Usman put on 55 for the sixth wicket to give them hope. Harsha Rajapaksha (3-3) then removed Usman and the last five wickets fell for 18. Thomas Currie hit an unbeaten 54 for Sheffield Collegiate at home to Whitley Hall, to help take them to 172-8 after being 76-5, whilst Harrison Wood took 3-46 for the visitors. In reply, Whitley were 6-3 after Henry Eldred (3-35) had taken three early wickets, but Neil Longhurst (79) then put on 109 with Matt Cartwright (38) and Matthew Thompson came in to finish the job with an unbeaten 38, and the visitors won by five wickets in the 46th over. Appleby Frodingham remain level with Whitley in fifth place after a resounding win over bottom side Elsecar at Brumby Hall. Skipper Alex Grimes (85) and Josh Del Simone (115*) put on 162 for the hosts’ first wicket, and Kieran Lindley (58 off 31 balls) added a further 99 with Del Simone before being out to the last ball of the innings, and they posted a formidable 298-3. The visitors never really got going in reply and were all out for 108, with Matt Harris taking 3-28 and Kieran Watson 4-15. Cawthorne took a big step towards ensuring their safety in the division with a comprehensive win over local rivals Barnsley Woolley Miners at Dark Lane. Skipper Mike Jepps (33) and Liam Wiles (58) added 59 for the third wicket to take them to 97-2, and although wickets fell regularly thereafter, Danish Aziz (34) and Archie Greaves (33 off 16 balls) kept up the momentum and took them to 204 all out in the last over. Adam Copley and skipper Liam Johnson took three wickets each for the visitors, who never really got going in their reply, and were all out for 100, with Thomas Jones taking 5-34 and Aziz 3-29.
Opener Ben Simpson (50) and Gareth Purshouse (75) added 110 for the third wicket for Championship Division leaders Wickersley Old Village to rescue them from 6-2 against Sheffield Collegiate 2nds at Northfield Road. Hamzah Younis then added an unbeaten 57 off 37 balls to take his side to 233-6, whilst Benjamin Carrigan was the most successful bowler for the visitors with 3-43. Dylan Smythe then took 5-46 as Collegiate were bowled out for 141 in reply, Andy Simpson top-scoring with 34. The leaders are now 20 points clear, but there is a battle for second place between Hallam and Ackworth, after both won their games. Nathaniel Dingle (3-19) and Noah Murphy (3-24) helped Hallam bowl out Wath for 152 at Crimicar, after visiting skipper Rob Barlow had made 43 at the top of the order. Hosts’ opener Alex Hughes made 54 in reply, putting on 71 for the second wicket with Will Newton (30), then Edward Burch made an unbeaten 39 as they eased to a six-wicket win in the 35th over. Ackworth, eight points behind Hallam, bowled relegated Houghton Main out for 124 at Middlecliffe Lane, Luke Townsend taking 6-65 and Dale Longfield 3-26, whilst Riaz Khan made 36 for the hosts. The visitors made a poor start against skipper Danish Hussain (3-38), but Mohammad Khan (32*) and Townsend (41*) then put together an unbroken 74 partnership to see Ackworth to a five-wicket win in 23 overs. Whiston Parish Church, who are in fourth place, 28 points outside the promotion places, enjoyed a straightforward win over Rockingham Colliery at Church Fields. Sam Drabble (5-17) and Kazim Hassan (4-36) bowled the visitors out for 109, Zobair Khaliq top-scoring with 37 at number eight, before Samuel Bowden (51) and Danny Kemp (53*) put on 106 for the second wicket as Whiston cruised to an eight-wicket win in the 31st over. Sprotbrough dropped a place to fifth after losing at home to Doncaster Town 2nds. The hosts were 82-5 when opener Thomas Pepper (36) fell to visiting skipper Simon Widdup (4-45), but Lewis Hogg (53) and Daniel Wright (33) then put on 70 for the sixth wicket and they managed to reach 208-9, Tiger Payne taking 3-66. In reply, Jack Woodiwiss (79*) and Stuart Guy (72) put on 132 for the third wicket to help their side to a second-wicket win in the 46th over. Barnsley Woolley Miners 2nds remained in the second relegation spot after losing at home to Aston Hall. Put in to bat, the hosts made 188-8, with William Chapman making 50 and Anthony Godley 39, whilst skipper Adam Clarke took 3-42 for the visitors. Ollie Wainwright (49) and Nazakat Khan (76*) then put on 117 for the third wicket as Aston Hall completed a seven-wicket win in the 38th over.
Oughtibridge War Memorial have a fourteen-point lead at the top of Division 1 after their comfortable win over Upper Haugh at Waterside Gardens. Richard Marsden took 3-37 and Sam Patel 3-20 as the visitors were bowled out for 116, then Hasaru Chaamikara (32) helped them overcome the loss of three early wickets before Danuka Hettierachichi (33*) guided them to a six-wicket win in the 33rd over. Just four points separate the next five clubs in a hotly-contested promotion race. Darfield are joint-second with Tickhill 2nds after a narrow win over fourth-placed Rotherham Town at Clifton Lane. Skipper Joe Stickland took 5-36 as the hosts were bowled out for 110, then Anees Hussain took 4-18 as the visitors lost four wickets for three runs as they slipped from a comfortable 106-5 to 109-9, before the last pair got Darfield over the line in 35 overs. Ibrahim Safi (3-20) and Muhammad Khan (35) helped Tickhill bowl relegation-threatened Wakefield Thornes 2nds out for 125 at Alderson Drive, Fred McVerry top-scoring for the visitors with 32. Safi then made 52 to help his side to a five-wicket win in the 29th over. Whitley Hall 2nds dropped three places to fifth after losing to Wickersley Old Village 2nds at Baxter Field. Stephen Baster (4-44) and Adam Whitford (3-23) reduced the hosts to 94-7, Jack Myers then making 32 at number eight to take them to 138 all out. In reply, Peter Smith (73*) and Brady Saunders (40) compiled an unbroken partnership of 101 to help Wickersley to a nine-wicket win in the 32nd over. The last of the five clubs vying for second place are Conisbrough, who bowled bottom side Elsecar 2nds out for 115 at the Al-Murad Stadium; skipper Callum Johnson made 35 at the top of the order for the hosts, but Buddhika Bopitiyaga took 6-45 for the visitors. Skipper Mathew Lowe made 35 at the top of the order in Conisbrough’s reply, and Hamzah Ilyas was unbeaten on 30 off 25 balls when his side completed a six-wicket win in the 28th over. Next-to-bottom side Aston Hall 2nds were beaten at home by Warmsworth after skipper Nathan Ward (56) and Zeeshan Ahmad (35) had put on 78 for the hosts’ first wicket at Green Lane, but Siddarth Ahhuja (4-28) and Jack Rodgers (3-40) then helped bowl them out for 164. In reply, skipper Rhys Mann (36) and Ahhuja (50) added 78 for the second wicket, and Liam Marshall made 50 to help Warmsworth survive the loss of four wickets for 11 runs that left them 121-6, and they won by three wickets with four overs to spare.
Oscar Oborne-Corby took 5-36 to help leaders Division 2 leaders Coal Aston to a 16th win of the season, this time over Sheffield United at Bawtry Road. The hosts were all out for 118, but the leaders did not find the chase easy, and were 67-5 when Ben Vandrill cane in to make an unbeaten 33 off 20 balls and see them home with four wickets in hand in the 29th over. Second-placed Penistone saw the gap below them narrow to six points when they were well beaten at home by Hallam 2nds, who remain fourth. Skipper Jack Unwin made 67 to help the visitors to 177-9, whilst Tom Exley (5-51) and William Tyas (3-32) were amongst the wickets for the hosts. But in reply, Penistone were all out for 74, all five visiting bowlers taking wickets. Monk Bretton, in third place, strengthened their position by beating Treeton 2nds at the Castle Ground. Ryan Hardy (79) and Ritish Sasikumar (39) put on 138 for the visitors’ third wicket in their 200-9, Steven Honeyman taking 6-36 for the hosts. In reply, Bretton were in trouble at 76-6, but an unbroken seventh-wicket stand of 126 between keeper Eddie Allen (43*) and Scott Latimer, with 85 not out off 53 balls including ten fours and five sixes, took them to a four-wicket win in the 39th over. Opener Joe Milner (41), keeper Ben Tribick (44) and Alex Masterson (65) steered Parkhead to 268 all out at home to Oughtibridge War Memorial 2nds, for whom Lahiru Lihinikadu took 4-60 and Daniel Currie 3-50. Only late resistance from Sher Khan (52) and Joel Wake (34*) got the visitors to 215 all out, Chris Turner taking 5-41 for Parkhead. League Hall-of-Famer Mark Wilson returned a remarkable 9-6-3-6 as Wath 2nds bowled Hatfield Town out for 54 at Moor Road, then the host lost five wickets in reaching their modest target.
Norton Woodseats returned to winning ways at the top of Division 3 by beating Higham at Matthews Lane. Shahzad Hussain (68) top-scored for the hosts, with good support from Ikramullah Naseri (37) and skipper David Armitage (34) in their 206-6, then Naseri took 4-30 as the visitors were bowled out for 157, despite 50 from George Deegan. Sheffield Collegiate 3rds strengthened their grip on second place by beating bottom side Thorncliffe & Wentworth at Abbeydale, whilst their near challengers slipped up. Shafiullah Shinwari (5-17) and Oliver Tyas (3-19) helped bowl out the visitors for 104, then keeper Daniel Craig made 50 at the top of the order as Collegiate gained a seven-wicket win in the 18th over. The third-placed side overnight, Cawthorne 2nds, lost to Barnsley Woolley Miners 3rds at Woolley, Lewis Bray hitting 80 off 54 balls to take the hosts to 238-8, whilst George Charnock was the pick of the visitors’ attack with 3-35. Joshua Hartfield (5-49) was instrumental in bowling Cawthorne out for 131 in reply. Millhouses Works moved up into third place after beating Worsbrough Bridge at the D&I Home Improvements ground. Lee Stewart took 5-16 and Mark Wilkinson (42*) was the top run-scorer as Bridge were bowled out for 129; then Kieran O’Sullivan (68*) anchored the visitors’ reply as they reached their target for the loss of five wickets in the 33rd over, Wilkinson (3-20) completing a good all-round performance in a losing cause. Andre Jackson (50) and Andrew Jackson (36) put on 86 for Caribbean Sports’ first wicket at home to Kexborough in their 193-7, Adam Robinson taking 3-39 for the visitors. In reply, visiting skipper Danny Bowering made 39, but his side were restricted to 166-8, with Shahrukh Khan (3-41) and Rehan Mir (3-46) leading the way. Michael Nuttall made 63 as Norton Oakes made 216-7 against relegation-threatened Bradfield Village Fellowship at the Sands, James Shepherd and Hennie Swart taking three wickets apiece for the hosts. In reply, opener Stephen Abbs made 46, but Bradfield were 98-7 before Swart made 41 at number nine and took them to 164 all out, whilst Ted Hutchings was the top performer for the visitors with 3-21.
Stocksbridge lost their outright lead at the top of Division 4 after losing to Doncaster Town 3rds at Hill House. Opener Matthew Price made 41 for the visitors, but then Joe Woodiwiss took 7-40 as they were restricted to 152-9. In reply, Mark Lockwood made 35 at the top of the order, sharing a third-wicket stand of 118 with Michael Clarke-Linney (77 off 59 balls) as Town completed a four-wicket win in the 31st over. Frecheville Community moved level with Stocksbridge at the top of the table after a hard-fought win over relegation-threatened Hallam 3rds at the Hobson Bowl. Freddie Scott made 50 off 35 balls as the visitors were all out for 154, Nail Ramsden (4-50) and Thomas Duffield (3-67) doing most of the damage. When Frecheville replied, Zayan Khan took 5-59 and none of the batsmen reached 30, but they reached their target for the loss of eight wickets in the 36th over. Rockingham Colliery 2nds held on to third place despite being well beaten by Sheffield Collegiate 4ths at Hoyland Common. 54 each from opener Jack Riley and Kelham Bennett took the hosts to 190-8, Rehan Ahmed taking 3-39, then Tommy Harrison (46) and Chris Stewart (112*), with 127 for the second wicket, ensured an eight-wicket Collegiate win in the 46th over. Keeper Hammad Farooq (107) and Ihtisham Mohammed (55) put on 90 for Shiregreen 2nds’ first wicket at home to bottom club Silkstone United, and Christopher Barraclough took 5-37 as the hosts reached 258-7. Fida Mohammed then took 6-16 in ten overs as the visitors were restricted to 170-9 in reply, Barraclough completing a fine solo performance with an unbeaten 61. Scott Aranyi (86) put on 128 for Wombwell Main’s first wicket against Conisbrough 2nds at Park Road with Matthew Tonks (70), then 106 for the second with Jonathan Scaife (80), as the visitors piled up 323-4. Keeper Joe Haigh top-scored with 39 in the Conisbrough reply, but Scaife completed an excellent game with 6-44, Tonks taking 3-33 in support, and they were all out for 181. Upper Haugh 2nds gained a valuable win in their fight to avoid relegation, beating Sprotbrough 2nds at Wentworth Road by three wickets. Rocco Cook led the way for the visitors with 74, and with support from opener Callum Marsh (43) and skipper Thomas Langley (41) they were 148-2, but the innings faded a little after that, Muhammad Khan taking 3-40, and they finished on 215-8. Opener Mathew Bacon (90) led the hosts’ reply, and they reached their target for the loss of seven wickets with nine balls left.
It was a big weekend for Ackworth in Division 5, with wins over overnight leaders Barnby Dun on Saturday and Whiston Forge on Sunday, taking them to within eight points of the promotion places. On Saturday, Barnby Dun made 228-6 at Ackworth, Henry Parker (44), Michael Fell (70) and skipper Alex Pepper (58) all amongst the runs, whilst Daniel Levick took 3-43. In reply, Sam Swindin (87) and Kevin Booth (94) put on 135 for the second wicket, but Ben Salter (4-43) and Ciaran McCarthy (3-42) induced a late flurry of wickets, before the hosts got over the line with three wickets and three overs to spare. On Sunday, Swindin (123 off 113 balls) had an opening stand of 140 with Rehan Kiriella (55) before keeper Dave Harris plundered an unbeaten 77 off 43 balls to take Ackworth to 300-7, Michael Raleigh taking 4-45 for visitors Forge. In reply, opener Robert Horton carried his bat for an unbeaten 102 out of 228-9, whilst Finlay Martin took 3-49 for Forge. Chris Stride returned 9-3-7-5 and Heston Christian took 4-27 as Sheffield University Staff bowled Rotherham Town 2nds out for 76 at Warminster Road, and the hosts then knocked off the required runs for the loss of three wickets in 23 overs to return to the top of the table, keeper Chiraag Pandya contributing an unbeaten 39. Maltby Miners Welfare drop two places to fifth after losing to Coal Aston 2nds, who replace them in third, at Stonelow. Joshua Cross took 5-27 as the visitors were restricted to 142-8, then William Ross (42*) and Thomas Trower (36) compiled a decisive fifth-wicket stand of 73 to help Coal Aston to a five-wicket win in the 29th over. David Foote (66) and Steve Cowles, with an unbeaten 142 off 94 balls, put on 106 for Whiston Forge’s fourth wicket as the hosts posted a formidable 299-5 against Wickersley Old Village 3rds at Guilthwaite Hill. The visitors made a great start in reply, through keeper Max Robinson (58) and Graham Cooke (105 off 98 balls), who put on 128 for the first wicket; but wickets then fell regularly against a varied attack, and Wickersley finished on 237-8, slipping to the bottom of the table.
Skipper Gareth Stent made 34 for Division 6 leaders Hatfield Town 2nds as they were bowled out for 139 by Caribbean Sports 2nds at Carr Side Lane, Muhammad Usman and Junaid Abbas taking three wickets each for the visitors. Mustafah Azam then top-scored as Sports edged past their target off the last ball of the innings with just one wicket to spare. Warmsworth 2nds cut the gap at the top to eight points after bowling Handsworth Junior SC 2nds out for 90 at Common Lane, Richard Marshall taking 4-14 in ten overs. Liam Cotton then hit an unbeaten 41 off 34 balls as the hosts won by eight wickets in just 16 overs. Penistone 2nds held on to third place by beating Mexborough Athletic at the Beecroft Estates ground. James Sen (61) and keeper Scott Jones (57) put on 118 for the visitors’ third wicket in their 183-7, Jonathan Guest taking 3-27 for Athletic, who were then all out for 138 in reply; Michael Brown took 3-35 and Charlie Tippett 3-23 for Penistone, whilst opener Elliot Hunt top-scored with 38 for the hosts. Millhouses Works 2nds bowled Thorpe Hesley & High Green 2nds out for 114 at Millhouses Park, and in reply, Amir Riaz was unbeaten on 51 off just 20 balls, with six fours and three sixes, as the hosts knocked off the runs with seven wickets and 16 overs to spare. Steven Bamforth (5-45) and Luke Woodhouse (3-68) helped bottom club Higham to bowl Sheffield United 2nds out for 157 at Royd Lane. In reply, Jack Rennison’s unbeaten 66 off 52 balls was crucial as the hosts edged passed their target with one wicket and four balls to spare. On Sunday, third-placed Whitley Hall 3rds beat Bradfield Village Fellowship 2nds by 37 runs at Baxter Field. Josh Singleton’s unbeaten 78 was the mainstay of the hosts’ 137 all out, whilst Stephen Abbs took 6-17 in ten overs for Bradfield. In the visitors’ reply, keeper Pete Roberts made 44, but Joe Chatterton took 4-33 and they were all out for 100.
Nick Bisby’s unbeaten 72 was the decisive innings in Adwick-le-Street’s win over Division 7 leaders Green Moor at Adwick Park. Harry Airstone took 3-27, but the hosts reached 154-7, then bowled their visitors out for 116; Christopher Jeeves taking 3-33, whilst James Christopherson top-scored with 36 for Green Moor. Scholes & Harley narrowed the gap at the top to four points after a resounding win over Barnsley Woolley Miners 4ths at Scholes. Lewis Varley (67) and Michael Dearden (96) put on 173 for the hosts’ fourth wicket as they posted 261-7, Isaac Wilkes taking 3-39 fort the visitors. In reply, opener Craig Wilkes made 47 but the visitors were restricted to 146-7. Brookhouse are just a point behind Scholes after beating Upper Haugh 3rds at Hooton Pagnell. Thomas Hogan made 32 for the visitors and Tom Burns took 3-35 as they made 178-8; in Upper Haugh’s reply, Jawad Khan took 3-19 and only Lucas Hawkes’s unbeaten 36 lifted them from 95-8 to 139-8 at the close. Stocksbridge 2nds move up a place to fourth despite losing to Doncaster Town 4ths at Bracken Moor. Opener Muhammad Shabir made 44 and Ankit Patel an unbeaten 63 off 52 balls as the visitors reached 182-6, then the hosts were restricted to 156-7 in reply, despite 67 from Steven Perry. There was a relegation battle at Parklands, where Eden Grove Parklands made 173-8 against Sprotbrough 3rds, for whom Nigel Young took 3-27; but when the visitors replied, Jake Vickerage took 4-34 and Tom Daykin 3-34 and they were all out for 150, despite 47 from Reece Marsh. In the other potential bottom four battle, Houghton Main 2nds conceded to Norton Oakes 2nds.
In the battle of the top two in Division 8, Parkhead 2nds maintained their place at the top of the table by beating Rockingham Colliery 3rds at Stainborough. Only when Ryan Mann (34) and Reece Woodhead (35) were adding 55 for the fifth wicket did the hosts look like taking control against Hashim Mahroof (4-31) and Ian Davis (3-31) and they were all out for 128. In reply, Oliver Harrison steered his side to a four-wicket win with an unbeaten 47. Third-placed Hallam 4ths were gifted 12 points when Mexborough Athletic 2nds conceded their game. Fourth met fifth at Glass Park, where Barnby Dun 2nds increased the gap to Norton Woodseats 2nds below them. Paul Dykes hit an unbeaten 89 off 66 balls to help the hosts to 199-5, whilst Abbas Shah took 3-32 for Woodseats. Abdullah Hakimi made 60 when the visitors replied, but they were restricted to 182-7. Opener Ian Davis (66) played a lone hand for Monk Bretton 2nds when they were bowled out for 89 by Wombwell Main 2nds at the I-Source Stadium, and the hosts had no difficulty in knocking off the required runs for the loss of one wicket the 12th over. Bottom side Worsbrough Bridge 2nds kept alive their outside chance of avoiding relegation when they beat bottom-four rivals Elsecar 3rds at Clayfields Lane. Robert Stubbings made 59 in the visitors’ 196 all out, whilst William Reavill took 4-28 for Elsecar. In reply, skipper Richard Stump made 86 at the top of the order for the hosts, but with Alex Tonge taking 4-34 and Archie Wootton 3-5, no-one else reached double figures and they were all out for 121. Kexborough 2nds boosted their survival hopes with a comfortable win over third-bottom Frecheville Community 2nds at Bence Lane. An unbeaten 43 from Mark Kempton helped the visitors to 156-6, but Matthew Green and skipper Dale Shillito, with 37 each, then added 74 for the hosts’ first wicket and Mitchell Crapper hit 62 to help them to a seven-wicket win in the 27th over.
Division 9 leaders Thorncliffe & Wentworth 2nds were comprehensively beaten by Scholes & Harley 2nds at Lound Side, where Chis Williams’ unbeaten 71 helped the visitors to reach 177-8, then Jamie Mann (4-43) and Ben Wathen (3-16) did most of the damage as the hosts were bowled out for 69 in reply. With Dearne not in action, third-placed Silkstone United 2nds missed the chance to close the gap on the top two when they were beaten by bottom club Whiston Forge 2nds at Barnsley Road. Shaun Heywood (3-29) and Richard Ellis (3-31) were the chief wicket-takers as the hosts were bowled out for 162, then, after Kelham Elliott made 42 at the top of the order, Richard Ellis, with an unbeaten 42 at number nine, steered Forge to a one-wicket win after they had been 104-7 in reply. Joe Green (4-32) and Lucas Quilter (3-35) were amongst the wickets for the hosts. At Pinfold Lane, Fishlake 2nds restricted Eden Grove Parklands 2nds to 104-7, then skipper Liam Coetzee hit an unbeaten 52 as the hosts eased to a ten-wicket win in the 28th over. In the other scheduled game, bottom side Brookhouse 2nds conceded to Wath 3rds.
Sunday’s cup-ties
Whiston Parish Church won the Whitworth Cup by beating Wickersley Old Village at Sprotbrough. Keeper Bilal Afzal (38 off 22 balls) gave Whiston’s innings some impetus at the start, and Kazim Hassan made 36 at number seven as they posted 225-8 in their 40 overs, Mark Cummins the most successful bowler with 3-39. Opener Ben Simpson made 47 for Wickersley, but after he had departed, they slumped to 69-6 before Dylan Smythe (33) and skipper Iftikhar Afzal (36) gave them some hope. Arman Jaffer (3-28) then settled the contest with three wickets, as Wickerley were all out for 175 took 3-28 and Whiston won the Whitworth Cup for the first time.

In the semi-finals of the K3 Dental Cup, there was a heart-breaking last-ball defeat for Cawthorne at home to holders Castleford. At 126-4, with Liam Wiles (43) and Kade Fletcher (37) going well and 15 overs left, Cawthorne looked set for a good score, but the last six wickets fell for 28 as they were all out for 154. In the visitors’ reply, there were three wickets for Danish Aziz (3-17) as Castleford slid to 84-7, but then Luke Edwards, with an unbeaten 42, guided the tail to 154-9 off the last ball of their 40 overs, and the YPLN side won by virtue of having lost fewer wickets.
The other game, at Abbeydale, was more straightforward. Only Gihan Maligaspe Koralage (99) got to grips with Sheffield Collegiate’s bowlers, and Scarborough were restricted to 177-9. In reply, Samuel Meadows (46) and Shaaiq Choudhry (43) put on 78 for the second wicket to take their side to 102-1. Then, after both had departed, Mat Roberts, with an unbeaten 38, guided Collegiate to a six-wicket win with seven balls to spare.
