Following Saturday’s games, despite the efforts of the rain, nearly all promotion and relegation issues are now resolved, and we congratulate our winners and promotees, and commiserate with those relegated, and hope they will bounce back quickly.
In the Premier Division, Wakefield Thornes’ game away to champions Cleethorpes was called off due to a wet ground and Whitley Hall took advantage with a DLS win away to relegated Barnsley Woolley Miners and moved into second place. Callum Bethell took 5-58 as the hosts were bowled out for 154, Freddie Chapman making 44; then Matt Cartwright was unbeaten on 61 and Whitley were 113-2 when the rain came, leaving them 48-run winners against their par score of 65. At the other end of the table, Hallam assured themselves of Premier Division cricket next season by beating Cawthorne by eight wickets at Crimicar. Jay Singh (4-39) and Christian Leddicoat (4-32) helped them bowl out the visitors for 143, skipper Archie Greaves making a defiant unbeaten 44; then Andre Bradford (51 not out) and Nick Dymock (60) put on 105 for the first wicket to set Hallam well on their way to a revised target of 134 in 40 overs. In the crunch relegation battle at Northfield Lane, Hamzah Younis took 4-43 when Wickersley Old Village bowled Shiregreen out for 194, Haris Khan making 68; Subhaan Hussain (80 not out) and Abdul Qayoom (86 not out) then put on an unbroken third wicket stand of 151 to see Wickersley to an eight-wicket DLS win that confirmed their place in the Premier Division in 2026, and condemned their visitors to relegation. Elsewhere, Appleby Frodingham skipper Alex Grimes ended a fine personal season with 87, supported by 64 from Kieran Lindley, in their side’s 205-8 against Doncaster Town, Harsha Rajapaksha taking 4-54. Taylor Fell made 47 in Town’s reply, but Paul Hilton took 6-28, and they were all out for 173, falling 15 short of their DLS target of 189 in 30 overs. Sheffield Collegiate’s home game was abandoned with visitors Tickhill 84-1 in their first innings.
Daniel Wright (5-17) and Parteek Khasa (6-3-3-5) bowled Ackworth out for 24, and although Sprotbrough lost five wickets in overhauling their small target, they confirmed their position as winners of the Championship Division and ended Ackworth’s promotion hopes. Ibrahim Shakil took 4-13 to help Whiston Parish Church bowl Doncaster Town 2nds out for 83, then knocked off the required runs for the loss of one wicket to claim the second promotion spot. With the relegation places decided, there was little to play for in the other games. Lasith Lakhan took 5-27 when Elsecar made 141-9 against Rockingham Colliery at Hoyland Common, but Musa Altaf then took 6-34 to help restrict the visitors to 103-8 in reply, 24 short of their DLS adjusted target. Ikramullah Naseri made 89 in Oughtibridge War Memorial’s 187 all out away to Tickhill 2nds, Ibrahim Safi taking 4-40; then the hosts were all out for 92 in reply, losing by 101 runs on DLS. The game between Aston Hall and Wath was abandoned with Wath 87-4 in the first innings, and Treeton were 40-6 at home to Sheffield Collegiate 2nds when their game also fell victim to the weather.
Upper Haugh were confirmed as champions of Division 1 after quickly dispatching Monk Bretton at Wentworth Road. Habil Arshad recorded 9-5-10-5 as the visitors were bowled out for 27, and it took Upper Haugh just eleven balls to score the required runs without loss of wicket. Coal Aston will join them in the Championship Division next season after beating Penistone at Stonelow. Anthony Godley made 52 and Shaun Trower took 4-29 when the visitors were all out for 163, then Jack Hall (53) and skipper Ben Hall (58) steered Coal Aston to a seven wicket win against a DLS target of 138 in 36 overs. Despite beating Conisbrough by six wickets on DLS at School Street, Darfield missed out on promotion. Mathew Lowe (50) top-scored in the visitors’ 214 all out, Syed Shah taking 5-38; then Anees Hussain (96 not out) steered Darfield home. Elsewhere, the games at Warmsworth, where Wickersley Old Village were 93-4 in the first innings, and Baxter Field, where Barnsley Woolley Miners 2nds were 72-4 against Whitley Hall 2nds, were abandoned.
In Division 2, Parkhead confirmed their promotion by beating Elsecar 2nds at the Al-Murad Stadium. Luke Davison made 47 and Richard Stump took 4-49 when the visitors were all out for 165; then Harry Pollard took 4-37 to help restrict Elsecar to 101-7 in reply, 28 short of their revised DLS target. At the other end of the table, Millhouses Works finished in the third relegation spot after being comprehensively beaten by champions Frickley Colliery. Adam Rollin hit 155 off 116 balls, with support from Stephen Ashworth (69), in Colliery’s 322-6; then Jason Mills (5-41) and Franke Mangham (4-53) reduced Works to 131-9 in reply before the rain came, and they lost on DLS. Elsewhere, Thorpe Hesley & High Green ensured their safety with a 72-run DLS win over Cawthorne 2nds at Dark Lane. Garvin Serieux made 60 in the visitors’ 226-9; then Ashley Reynolds took 5-39 as Cawthorne were 146 all out in reply, despite Nick Lowe’s 66. Jack Machin took 5-41 for Wakefield Thornes 2nds when they bowled Sheffield United out for 139 at Field Lane, and the hosts then completed a two-wicket DLS win. Nathaniel Dingle (7-3-8-4) and Alex Coates (4-31) helped Hallam 2nds bowl Oughtibridge War Memorial 2nds out for 91 at Waterside Gardens, and the visitors completed a nine-wicket win in 14 overs. Norton Woodseats’ game at home to Aston Hall 2nds was abandoned with the visitors 86-3 in the first innings.
Norton Oakes are confirmed as champions of Division 3 after a nine-wicket win over Wath 2nds at Moor Road. Daniel Baldwin was unbeaten on 58 when Oakes passed the hosts’ 120-7 in 34 overs with 16 overs to spare. Sheffield Collegiate 3rds confirmed their promotion when they beat Shiregreen 2nds at Hatfield House Lane, moving above them in the table. Jack Goodwill took 5-10 when the hosts were all out for 105; Collegiate then passing their target with seven wickets and 19 overs to spare. Higham’s safety in the division was confirmed when they got 12 points after Treeton 2nds conceded against them. This meant that Sheffield Caribbean would be relegated whatever their result; their game at Carr Side Lane being abandoned with Hatfield Town on 54-3 in reply to Caribbean’s 140-8, out of which opener Andrew Jackson was unbeaten on 51. Elsewhere, Andy Shore made 50 in Rockingham Colliery 2nds’ 143 all out away to Worsbrough Bridge, who then completed a five-wicket win in the 39th over. Todd Saxelby (61) and Joel Wake (51 not out) helped Frecheville Community to 234-8, and Bradfield Village Fellowship were 36-2 in reply when their game was abandoned.
Coal Aston 2nds secured their promotion from Division 4 with a five-wicket win over relegated Wombwell Main at the I-Source Stadium. Eliot Tye took 5-26 as the hosts were bowled out for 138; then Laurence Pickford hit 75 in the visitors reply, and they won with 20 overs to spare. On Sunday, Sheffield University Staff’s game against relegated Sheffield Collegiate 4ths at Abbeydale was abandoned with the Staff on 123-8 in the first innings. Barnby Dun were relegated after losing at home to Upper Haugh 2nds; Craig Jackson took 5-15 when the hosts were bowled out for 50, and it took Upper Haugh only 7.4 overs to score the required runs for the loss of one wicket. Elsewhere, Michael Gilmour took 4-23 when Thorncliffe & Wentworth bowled Doncaster Town 3rds out for 62 at Blaxton, but then Archie Peirson took 5-33 and Thorncliffe lost eight wickets in scoring the 63 required to win. Kexborough’s game at home to Stocksbridge was abandoned when the visitors were 43-2 in reply to Kexborough’s 172-9, and champions Sprotbrough 2nds were 35-3 at home to Barnsley Woolley Miners 3rds when their game was called off.
In Division 5, Ackworth 2nds are promoted as champions alongside Whiston Forge after beating close challengers Maltby Miners Welfare at Muglet Lane. Arran Taylor took 4-13 to help bowl the hosts out for 114; then Ackworth passed their target with six wickets and 19 overs in hand. At the other end of the table, Fishlake’s win away to Conisbrough 2nds was not enough to save them from relegation. Richard Copley took 5-24 when the hosts were bowled out for 105, and Fishlake were declared winners on the countback rule at 88-6 in the 22nd over. Joining Fishlake in relegation to Division 6 are Whiston Parish Church 2nds, who bowled Silkstone United out for 115, Mahmood Hussain taking 5-36; but Chris Barraclough took 5-18 when Whiston replied, and they were all out for 79. Penistone 2nds ensured their safety when they bowled Hatfield Town 2nds out for 98, Paul Dalton taking 4-20; then chased down their target by five wickets. Elsewhere, Ben Lee made an unbeaten 53 in Hallam 3rds’ 167-5 but the game was abandoned with Warmsworth 2nds on 86-4, eight balls short of the 20 overs needed to obtain a result.
With the championship and promotion issues settled in Division 6, the attention focussed on the other end of the table. Mexborough Athletic made 213-8 against Thorpe Hesley & High Green 2nds at Smithywood Road, Sarmad Masood making 77; then Brandon Cooke was amongst the wickets again with 6-24, and although the hosts were all out for 112, the win was not sufficient to secure their safety. Wickersley Old Village 3rds were also relegated after their game was abandoned when they were 60-5 in reply to Sheffield Caribbean 2nds, who had made 180 all out at the Common, Zarkhan Abrahimkhil making 52. Whitley Hall 3rds ensured their safety by restricting Handsworth Junior SC to 123-9, then knocking off the required runs for the loss of three wickets, Charlie Poole contributing 46 not out. Wadworth also banished any fears of relegation when, after posting 196-7 at home to Scholes & Harley, Jeff Dickinson took 5-43 to help them bowl their visitors out for 132, despite opener Callum Sverdloff’s 53. Green Moor finished just six points outside the promotion places after a thumping win over Millhouses Works 2nds at Hill Top. Scott Jones (88) and Satinderpal Singh (60) led the way as the hosts reached 291-7; then Singh took 4-9 when Works were all out for 59 in reply. In the top against bottom encounter at Totley, Waverley were 2-0 in reply to Darfield 2nds’ 144-7, of which Campbell Wroe made 77, when the game was abandoned.
Sheffield United 2nds were confirmed as champions of Division 7 after beating Doncaster Town 4ths at Bawtry Road. Faizan Nawaz made 66 to rescue United from 74-7 to 178 all out, then Town were all out for 89 in reply. At the other end of the table, Upper Haugh 3rds were relegated when they were beaten by promoted Parkhead 2nds at Ecclesall Road. The visitors made 146-9, then opener David Spilman (65) set Parkhead on the way to a seven-wicket win. There remains one relegation issue to resolve after Handsworth Junior SC 2nds got 12 points when Barnsley Woolley Miners 4ths conceded to them, and they now need to beat Bradfield 2nds next Saturday to avoid relegation. If they win, Doncaster Town 4ths will be relegated. Opener Andrew Brock made a vital 48 for Brookhouse in their 149 all out against Bradfield Village Fellowship 2nds, for whom Ewan Fearnley took 4-33; then Adam Bryant took 4-40 when Bradfield were held to 142-7 in reply. An unbeaten 79 from opener Adam White helped Higham 2nds to 200-6 against Stocksbridge 2nds at Bracken Moor; then the hosts were all out for 164 in reply, Joe Taylor making 65. Adwick-le-Street were 132-7 against Rockingham Colliery 3rds, who were 75-3 in reply when the game was abandoned.
Despite losing to Monk Bretton 2nds, Wombwell Main 2nds were confirmed as champions of Division 8. Jack Smith made 81 in Wombwell’s 171-7, then Ian Davis was unbeaten on 58 in Monk Bretton’s two-wicket win. Waheed Safi (83) and Matt Thornton (88) helped Houghton Main 2nds to 227 all out, Thomas Green taking 4-61. Shokoor Ahmadzai then took 4-6 when already-relegated Kexborough 2nds were all out for 73 in reply, and Houghton’s promotion was confirmed. Norton Woodseats 2nds’ promotion was confirmed after they beat Norton Oakes 2nds at Oakes Park. The hosts made 111-8 and Woodseats were 86-1 in reply and won on the countback rule. Relegated Dearne ended their campaign on a positive note, beating Sprotbrough 3rds at Bullcroft. Luke Rankin made 51 off 26 balls as the visitors chased down 127 to win by three wickets in the 16th over. Hallam 4ths’ game at home to Eden Grove Parklands was abandoned with the hosts on 10-0 in response to Hallam’s 152-8.
Worsbrough Bridge 2nds claimed the last remaining promotion place in Division 9 by beating Fishlake 2nds at Pinfold Lane. Leon Kemp (9-5-9-4) and Adnan Asher (4-28) combined to bowl the hosts out for 74; then Bridge completed a six-wicket win in the 27th over. Elsewhere, Corey Hawkesworth took 5-29 for champions Frickley Colliery 2nds when they bowled Silkstone United 2nds out for 62 on their way to an eight-wicket win; promoted Elsecar 3rds were bowled out for 53 by Frecheville Community 2nds, Adam Gibson taking 6-17, and Frecheville won by ten wickets; Jonathan Guest took 4-27 for Mexborough Athletic 2nds when they bowled Whiston Forge 2nds out for 123, but Cade Darwin’s 4-28 then helped Forge gain at 51-run win; and Balakumar Varatharajan took 4-18 for Eden Grove Parklands 2nds when they bowled Sheffield University Staff 2nds out for 93, but Parklands then struggled to a two-wicket win. Oughtibridge War Memorial 3rds conceded to Scholes & Harley 2nds, and Wath 3rds conceded to Waverley 2nds.
