The Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League is saddened to hear of the passing of one of its Life Members, Alan Farnell.
Alan, a former solicitor, was President of Hallam CC for 16 years until 2019; a club with which he had been actively involved since 1988, when his sons joined the club as juniors. He subsequently made a dedicated contribution to all aspects of junior cricket, in particular in the training of junior scorers.
Alan passed the umpires course in 2006 and joined the South Yorkshire umpires’ panel, and two years later, following the passing of Tony Skipworth, was appointed as the South Yorkshire League’s Child Welfare Officer. He served the League in this role until 2019, having also acted as an adviser on disciplinary matters, and was a long-serving treasurer to the ACO South Yorkshire Branch.
We send our deepest sympathies to Alan’s family and friends.
