Clubs' bulletin no 8 of 2026 - 3 July
Discriminatory comments and insults – for action
Clubs are asked to remind all their players and officials that discriminatory comments and insults of any nature will not be tolerated in the YCSPL. Anyone found to have conducted themselves in this unacceptable manner must expect to receive sanctions that are severe in nature. There is no place or excuse for conduct of this type and it will not be tolerated in any way, shape or form. It is the responsibility of all clubs to ensure that their players adhere to all relevant rules and regulations.
Divisions 1 & 2 – for information
With immediate effect, Divisions 1 and 2 will now become part of the Premier Section for all purposes. This change is aimed as a step to reduce the imbalance between the Premier and Senior Sections, and is logical as these divisions have the same playing conditions as Premier Section. There should be no material difference for the clubs and teams involved.
Extraordinary General Meeting – reminder
There will be an Extraordinary General Meeting of YCSPL Premier & Championship Division clubs on Thursday 9 July at Shaw Lane Sports Club, Barnsley. This is to vote on the Points Cap proposal for operation in the Premier & Championship Divisions from 2027 onwards, and there will be discussion on Sunday cup & T20 ties.
Girls’ teams – for action
The YCF approach to achieving the ECB requirement for girls’ teams in clubs has been updated and is published on our website. Premier and Championship Division clubs who do not meet the requirement for 2026 will be liable to a 24-point deduction in 2027, whilst clubs in Division 1 who have not met the requirement will be disqualified from promotion.
Injury reporting – for action
Clubs are reminded that in the event of a player sustaining any injury at the ground on a matchday, the incident should be recorded on the Play-Cricket Injury Reporting Tool.
Non-turf pitches – for information
Under Competition Rule 4 iii, non-turf pitches may be used in Divisions 7 to 9, only where clubs are struggling to find a ground, wish to use a venue where there is only an artificial strip, and where prior approval has been given by the Senior Section committee only. Games may not be transferred to artificial pitches simply because a turf pitch on the same ground is unfit.
Promotion & relegation – for information
As we now have final confirmation of the clubs joining the YCSPL in 2027, we are now in a position to announce the promotion and relegation arrangements that will apply in the Senior Section this season.
Provision of scorers – for action
The attention of clubs is drawn to League Playing Condition 4.1, which requires that, ‘Should a team fail to provide a scorer, they must nominate an acting scorer for the whole game from their eleven nominated players. This acting scorer may only be relieved if a suitable alternative scorer (not in the nominated playing XI) is later provided for the remainder of the game.’
Umpire recruitment – for action
As we have now just passed the halfway point of the season it appears prudent to remind clubs that have not already provided the required umpire(s) for the league that under the new rule notified at the League AGM, they will be liable to a points deduction in 2027. If efforts to recruit have not been successful, evidence of efforts and activity to recruit will be required.
If any club has recruited a potential umpire who requires a training course, please contact Alison Gresser.
YCSPL under 23s team – for action
The League under 23s team will play their annual game against an MCC XI at Abbeydale Park, the home of Sheffield Collegiate CC on Thursday 30 July. It is a red ball game – white clothing. The start time is to be confirmed, usually around 11am. If your club has any under 23s, who play in the Premier or Championship Divisions, and who are available to play, please nominate them by messaging Steve Ward (07919 241148) by Tuesday next, 26 May. Players not nominated by their club will not be selected.
