Clubs’ bulletin no 12 of 2026 – 22 August 

 

Congratulations to Shiregreen CC on winning the Whitworth Cup for the second time in four seasons, beating Barnsley Woolley Miners CC at the Spinks Ground, Doncaster last Sunday. We would also like to thank all at Doncaster Town CC for their generous support in hosting the day. 

 

Forthcoming cup finals (all 12.30pm starts): 

 

• Sunday, 23 August – the Mick Savage Memorial Trophy Final at Darfield CC between Frickley Colliery and Whitley Hall 2nds 

• Sunday, 30 August – the K3 Dental Trophy Final will be held at Wakefield Thornes CC between Cawthorne and York 

• Sunday, 30 August – the President’s Final will be held at Whitley Hall CC between Sheffield Caribbean and Sheffield Centralians 

 

Also on Sunday 30 August (10.00am start), Elsecar CC will host the North Regional Finals of the ECB Vitality Club T20 Plate - the fourth time the club have been asked to host this prestigious event. In the first game, Ackworth will play Woodhouse Grange 2nds, with the winner going on to play the winners of the second semi-final (teams yet to be confirmed) in the final, at approximately 4.00pm. 

 

We wish all our clubs the very best of luck in these forthcoming cup competitions. 

 

 

All clubs and officials are reminded that the League Electronic Media Policy (appendix 5 in the League Admin Rules) stipulates that, ‘No-one connected to the League must email, message, or post any material that might bring League into disrepute.’ The League will regard failure to comply as a disciplinary breach. 

 

 

We would like remind clubs of the fixture dates for 2027 and remind them to start conversations with landlords, other sports clubs, etc, about ground availability. The fixture response portal will go live towards the end of September and we will include a link in the bulletin at the time. 

 

 

There are a number of rescheduled league games that will be played on this weekend. Given the potential for the light to fade early at this time of year, clubs are reminded that they may bring forward start times in order to improve the chances of a full game being played. If clubs agree to do this, they must inform Richard North and Paul McFarlane by midday on 1 September of new start times. If clubs do not inform us of any changed times by this date, the games must start at the originally scheduled time. 

 

 

We are now turning our attention to the organisation of the League Presentation Dinner at the OEC Sheffield on Friday 13 November. This year promises to be an even bigger event than usual, with many prize-winners, and we would like to make it as enjoyable and efficient for everyone as possible. 

 

If you have been to previous dinners, and would like to feed any thoughts into our planning process – for example, anything you have particularly liked or not liked in the past, or suggestions for improvement – please contact Roger Pugh by 22 August. 

 

 

If any of the teams who have participated in the trials of the red and/or pink Lords balls have any feedback on their performance, please pass this on to Linzey Scothern as soon as possible. 

 

 

The YCF are supporting an event at Castleford CC on Wednesday 26 August (6.00-8pm). In collaboration with Metrobank the event aims to take participants through volunteering roles in girls’ cricket, how to set up and grow a girls’ team as well as celebrating the female game in Yorkshire. 

 

Attendees will have the opportunity to: 

 

• observe top coaches delivering to girls 

• discuss and interact with a softball to hardball transition session 

• consider volunteering roles to support girls’ cricket at their club 

• join skills sessions related to umpiring, scoring, social media and running a club with girl’s cricket. 

 

The event is aimed at all clubs across Yorkshire looking to start girls’ cricket or to grow their volunteer base. They are invited to open the opportunity to any potential or current volunteers at their clubs.

Following a couple of recent incidents of misuse of facilities, all clubs who use grounds belonging to other clubs are asked to respect these grounds and facilities and leave them in the same condition as they find them. Given the shortage of grounds in South Yorkshire, it is vital that we ensure that clubs with capacity are willing to allow other clubs to use them in the knowledge that they will be properly looked after. 

 

There is likely to be spare capacity at Wentworth CC next season. Any club that may be interested in a ground-share arrangement should contact Jack Pearson.
