Clubs' bulletin no 6 of 2025 - 5 May

5th and 6th teams

The League’s constitution at present only allows for clubs to field a maximum of four teams in the League. The impending demise of the Yorkshire & Derbyshire League means that we need to take in a number of almost exclusively South Yorkshire teams from that league, who would otherwise have nowhere else to play, including three that are 5th and 6th teams of YCSPL clubs. Discussions will take place about how to minimise excessive travelling in the lower divisions.

Rather than ask all clubs to attend an EGM to participate in a two-minute vote to change our constitution, we are asking that all clubs indicate by email whether or not they are content with the ‘four team clause’ being removed from the constitution. That will allow planning for the influx of teams, currently thought to be 14, and the consequential changes to the divisional structure, to go ahead without delay, so that we can notify clubs of promotion and relegation arrangements as soon as possible.

Please email the League charman, Roger Pugh, by 24 May to indicate whether or not your club is content with the removal of the ‘four team clause’. If there is a clear majority in favour, we will, go ahead with the planning, and arrange for the change to be ratified at the AGM. If there is no clear majority, we will need to call an EGM to resolve the issue.

Discussions will take place about how to minimise excessive travelling in the lower divisions.

Bogus emails

Over the last couple of weeks, there appears to have been a spate of bogus emails, purporting to be from League officials. Mostly these have been from gmail accounts with addresses involving numbers. If in any doubt, please delete, and check with the relevant official using a known or published address.

Captains’ reports

David Ward has asked us to thank the Premier Section captains for their excellent completion rate at the start of the season, which makes his life a lot easier. Well done – and please keep it going!

Handbook

The following amendments to the hard copy handbook have been made on the online version:

in Competition rules, part of rule 16 had been inadvertently missed, and this has now been added in, so that clubs are fully aware of the more in-depth criteria used for judging unfair selection
Playing condition 14.iv duplicated that at 14.v – the original 14.iv has been removed and the following sub-paras renumbered
in the Club directory, the 1st XI contact at Thorpe Hesley & High Green is now Tom Arnold – 07773 046206
in Fixtures, the date of the K3 Dental Cup first round is Sunday 4 May; and tie number 9 in the second round is winner game 2 v winner game 5
in cup &T20 draws, Mick Savage Trophy, game 10 is now Winner of game 1 -bye
on the Umpires’ List, the telephone number for Matt Scholey is 07946 631972

Photography

There have been a couple of informal complaints about photographs being taken at grounds. It has been agreed that when an official League photographer is to go to a ground, clubs will be notified, so that they have opportunity to voice any concerns. It is up to clubs whether they allow unofficial photographers on their premises.

The League photographs taken this season are now published at https://www.ycspl.co.uk/2025-photo-gallery/

Transfer rules

In the course of a resolution panel investigation into a dispute about between two clubs about player registration, the following YCB rule has come to light:

Where a player is a bona-fide playing member of two or more clubs affiliated to Member Saturday Leagues then the Player can only be registered by one club and will be regarded as being registered as a Player for the first such Club he plays for in any season. The transfer requirements of these rules must be met before the player can play for another club affiliated to a Member Saturday League.

The League transfer rules did not reflect this rule, and accordingly an addition, to rectify the omission and provide full clarity, has been made to Administrative Rule 54.iv.
