Play-Cricket

Will clubs please ensure that their ‘about us’ section on Play-Cricket is up-to-date with the correct names and contact emails, specifically for the chair, secretary (or equivalent), treasurer, and safeguarding officer. These can be modified at any time if there are changes in officials throughout the 2025 season.

Promotion & relegation

It is now likely to be mid-May before we can finalise the promotion/relegation arrangements in the Senior Section due to the fact that the Yorkshire & Derbyshire League will fold after this season, and we may need to take some clubs from them.

Rotherham Town CC

At an extraordinary members’ meeting last night, Rotherham Town CC have decided, for financial reasons, to suspend their YCSPL teams from playing during the 2025 season. As it is too late to alter fixtures, clubs in Divisions 1 and 5 will now have blank weekends when they were due to be playing RTCC teams. The League Executive Board will discuss the wider implications of this decision at their meeting on 28 April.

Scoring issues

Before the first games this weekend, we remind clubs that from this season, games in the Senior Section affected by weather, have the potential to lose overs once games have started as in League Playing Conditions rule 9.
If overs are lost in Divisions 3 to 9, results could be determined by using a countback system as in League Playing Conditions rule 13. This makes it crucially important that the scores at the end of each over in first innings are recorded. Whilst it is quite straightforward to look back at end of over scores from the first innings on a laptop, those scoring on a tablet will find the process much more complex.
Our Scoring Manager, Steve Ward, has advised that the best practice, if scoring on a tablet, is to record the end-of-over scores on paper. The only other option is to go onto Play-Cricket and access the scorecard via the results section in your Admin area.
We remind clubs that the YCSPL will give clubs £100 towards the cost of purchasing laptops for the use of scoring.

Safe Hands & Safeguarding

Please ensure that your club is fully Safe Hands compliant – failure to do so could result in not being allowed to play fixtures, and the game being awarded to the opposition. A summary of safeguarding courses required to be completed by club officials is shown below. If in doubt about whether any official is compliant - please check on SHMS.

The e-Learning Safeguarding Level 2 course can be accessed using this link.

We wish all clubs, officials, players and spectators a very enjoyable 2025 season
