Clubs' bulletin no 11 of 2025 - 29 July

Cricket collective awards – for action

Nominations are now open for the 2025 Cricket Collective Awards. These are aimed at volunteers across the game that have dedicated their time to growing and maintaining cricket in Yorkshire. If you know a volunteer who deserves to be recognised for their dedication, who puts cricket before anything else, someone who inspires all generations to participate in cricket, and you want to say thank you, please click here to nominate them

Information for spectators – action required

We have a relatively small, but very valuable, nucleus of spectators that follow our clubs, and it is in all our interests to encourage them. For their convenience, it would be very valuable if clubs could do two things please:

reference the League website on your club’s website, eg, ‘We are proud to be part of the Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League – www.ycspl.co.uk’
let us have details of the facilities available at your ground, eg, car parking, toilets, refreshments and disability access, for visitors, so they can be shown in your club’s entry in the Club A-Z on the website

Junior scorers – action required

Clubs are reminded that where the location of the scorers is not in the immediate proximity of the pavilion, a check should be made, at least twice in a full-length innings, that junior scorers are ok.

League social media activity – volunteers sought

We want to improve and increase our social media profile by producing more potential social media content. If there is anyone connected with any of our clubs who is interested in this area and would like to help us, please contact Roger Pugh

League WhatsApp channel – for action

We have opened a WhatsApp channel as a means of getting very quick information out to all those involved in our League. You can access it and sign up for alerts at https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbBHwgH3gvWYJJI3yN1d

Officials’ recruitment – action required

There is now only a third of the 2025 season left, and we encourage clubs to redouble their efforts to recruit match officials. We are still a long way from our aim of covering all our games, and League and Umpires Association officials still receive regular complaints about games not being covered by umpires. We know that some clubs take this issue very seriously, and make real efforts, but the only way that we will come anywhere close to our aim is if everyone does so, whether or not they have already nominated an umpire for our panel, or recruited a club umpire. We will also review our rules for allocating umpires at the end of the season.

Requirement for girls’ sections in clubs – reminder of action required

In order to meet the ECB Accreditation Criterion for Premier Section clubs about girls’ teams, ECB and the YCF have devised a supportive and phased approach towards achieving this requirement. Premier Section clubs – and those with ambitions for promotion to the Premier Section – must fully engage with this process.

Safe Hands courses – for action

The Safe Hands 2025–2026 courses are now live and open for registration. The courses are in high demand, and once they reach capacity, YCB will not be offering additional sessions, so any non-compliant Club Safeguarding Officers should register as soon as possible – Clubs & Leagues - Safeguarding - Available Safe Hands Courses

South Yorkshire Police team – reminder

The South Yorkshire Police cricket team has been re-formed, and is looking for Sunday friendly fixtures. If your club would like a Sunday friendly, please contact Mick Holmes on 07734 285000 or Neil Vaughan. There would be no restriction on the constitution of teams – it could include guests and non-registered players.

Transfer deadline – reminder

Please remember that the deadline for transfers between YCSPL clubs, and of players into the League, is on 31 July. Transfers need to be completed in time to register on Play-Cricket by that date.

Whitley Hall centenary – for information

Whitley Hall CC invite all their friends in the YCSPL – players, umpires and officials – to join them at their end-of-season Centenary Dinner. There is a three-course meal, David Gower is the guest speaker, and live music is booked. The Dinner is on Saturday 27 September at OEC Sheffield, £45 per person.

William Pye – funeral information

‘Your say’ ECB playing survey – action required

‘Your say’ is ECB's main opportunity to gather the views of players and volunteers in any form of cricket, within the recreational game. By sharing what you think, ECB will gain valuable feedback to ensure the voices of players and volunteers continue to be heard and the game of cricket keeps evolving. The survey will run until Sunday 24 August – to complete it, please click here
