Childrens’ Summer Camps

Summer Camps for children aged 8 to 11 will be held at Whiston Parish Church CC on 6, 7 & 8 August (10.00am to 3.00pm).

During the three days, experienced level 2 Yorkshire Cricket Board coaches will deliver fun skills, matches and competitions. Children will get to work on some basic fundamentals whilst also learning about the game from a tactical point of view through competition. All equipment will be provided by the YCB coaches, participants can bring their own bat if they have one.

Parents are asked to ensure that children have enough food for the day, as there will be a scheduled lunch break. Water will be available for re-fills. We ask that children come prepared for the weather on the day, eg, suncream, hats, jumpers. Parents are asked to drop their child off for registration at 9.30 and return to collect at 3.00pm.

The prices are – £60 for three days or £25 per day. To book see www.yorkshirecb.com/events/summer-camps---whiston-parish-church-13525/

Designated players’ viewing areas

Clubs are reminded of the provisions of League Playing Condition 10, which states that, ‘At all games, the home club must provide a designated separate viewing area for players and officials. This may be a balcony or separate area in front of the dressing rooms. In the Premier Section, if this area is not already part of the design of the ground, it should be roped off with appropriate signage.’ This rule is intended to provide an area for players where they will not be subject to any unacceptable behaviour by spectators.

Development Fund

There have been five recent applications from clubs requesting help towards the improvement of their facilities from the League's Development Fund, and a total of £3,900 has been paid to these clubs. This leaves a current balance in the Fund of £3,067.40. Since the merger of the YSPL and the SYSCL in 2021, of a total of £9,130 ECB Funding has been paid to eleven Senior Section clubs. If your club are undertaking improvements, and you would like to know if help is available, please contact David Ward

Fixtures 2025

The Competitions Manager is already preparing for next season and intends to schedule League fixtures on each Saturday from 19 April until 13 September. There will be no initially scheduled League games on Sundays or Bank Holidays. A reserve date will be scheduled in due course in case it is necessary to reschedule the games from 19 April.

Grassroots Sports Funding

If your club is registered as Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) or charity, there may be funding that you can claim. For example, your volunteers may not claim petrol money or other expenses, thinking they are helping the club out – but if they did claim and then donated the money back, it could be gift-aided to the benefit of your club.

The process is simple and enables clubs to benefit financially from the work volunteers already do. One Yorkshire cricket club has claimed over £12,000 in backdated claims, and currently claim around £580 each month.

Neil Wood of Grassroots Sports Funding will be pleased to provide information and help on 07879 551102 or grassrootssportsfunding@gmail.com. Website www.grassrootssportsfunding.co.uk

Over rates

Clubs are reminded of the provisions of League Playing Condition 14, which states that teams are expected to bowl a minimum of 16 overs per hour. A cut-off time is calculated according to the agreed number of overs in the innings, after which penalty runs may be applied in respect of any overs not bowled.
