Clubs' bulletin no 8 of 2024 - 27 June
Collection of match balls
Linzey Scothern now has all the balls for the second half of the season for those clubs that have ordered them. As he is located fairly centrally in north Sheffield, please contact Linzey to arrange collection either from his home or from a mutually agreed point.
We ask that clubs who have a cup or t20 trophy that will be required for presentation at a forthcoming finals day take advantage of the opportunity to return it to Linzey at the same time.
All cup and t20 trophies must be returned by 6 July to Linzey or MS Sports (163a, Masbrough Street, Rotherham, S60 1HW) in order to ensure that they are available and ready for presentation this season.
Development Fund
You may have received an email about the Development Fund that suggests that if the money currently available is not used, it will be lost. This is not the case. The fund has recently been topped up by over £6,000, we have recently made three grants to clubs, and there is still plenty available. The Fund is intended for Senior Section clubs to provide contributions towards small projects to improve their ground facilities. If your club is undertaking some improvement work, and you want to know if you qualify, please contact the Head of Senior Section, David Ward.
Equity & Diversity Group
The group are currently seeking new members, in order to ensure that the membership properly reflects the diversity of the League, so that it can fully represent all backgrounds and beliefs and that the membership represents as many as possible of the seven protected discrimination characteristics. Full details can be found here.
Filming & live-streaming
No player or official may use a ‘helmet cam’ or any other filming device on the field of play. Similarly, no players or spectators are allowed to film games from the boundary, except for club live-streaming where permission has been granted.
The list of grounds where live-streaming may take place is shown on the homepage of the League website, along with a link to the YCSPL Filming & Live-Streaming Policy. Note that Coal Aston is now added to the live-streaming grounds shown in the handbook.
Grounds required for junior representative games
A ground is required for the South Yorkshire under-12s game against Norfolk on Sunday 7 July. A 19-yard grass wicket is needed, and ideally a 11am start (although there is flexibilty up to 1pm). No teas are required.
In addition, if your clubs cannot help on this occasion but would like to help later this season, or in future seasons, we are always looking for grounds in the South Yorkshire area for these junior regional games at all ages from U9 to U15.
Please contact Marc Bellwood on 07990 753905 if you can help.
Nomination of players for the under-23s game against MCC
The annual YCSPL under 23s game against the MCC will take place on Thursday 1 August at Abbeydale Park, Sheffield Collegiate CC. If you would like to nominate a player or players at your club, please contact Steve Ward. Taking into account the strength of the opposition, players need to be playing regularly at Premier Section level.
Premier Section captains’ meeting
The 2024 meeting for all Premier Section captains will be held by Zoom next Wednesday 3 July at 7.30pm. Please ensure that all Premier and Championship captains are aware and have the opportunity to attend or send a representative. Please see the agenda and joining instructions.
Promotion & relegation in the YCSPL
No team will be joining the YCSPL in 2025 from the Pontefract & District League under the pyramid agreement, therefore the promotion and relegation positions shown on the League website and Play-Cricket are now correct. The one caveat to this is that if Wadworth, who are joining us from the Bassetlaw League, finish in a relegation position in their current Bassetlaw division (1), they will be placed in Division 6, and the third-placed team in our Division 6 in 2024 will be promoted.
Team cards
Clubs are reminded that fully and correctly-completed team cards are required at all YCSPL games, irrespective of whether there are League umpires. These should be retained by clubs, if there are no umpires, for a minimum of three years.
Umpire recruitment
The majority of our clubs have now appointed someone of their committees to take the lead on officials’ recruitment, and we thank them to doing so. We have already had a number of enquiries relating to potential recruits, which is very encouraging. But, of course, there is a long way to go if we are to be able to provide umpires for all our games. We welcome anyone that would like to help out by doing a bit of umpiring – young or old, male or female, as much or as little as they want, and at whatever level suits them! Someone who is willing to umpire for their club in Divisions Three and below is just as valuable to us as a Premier League umpire. Please visit our umpires' recruitment page on the website.
The next ECB umpiring course in South Yorkshire will be held at the Boundary S20, Holbrook Industrial Estate, Sheffield S20 3FR on Saturday 26th October 2024. To avoid disappointment, early booking is recommended, using https://booking.ecb.co.uk/75VNo4.
