Clubs' bulletin no 14 of 2024 - 15 November
2025 fixtures– action required
The provisional 2025 fixtures have now been published. On the final page, you will see a schedule of the fixtures that need to be rearranged between the two clubs because of ground availability. These are broken down by division as follows:
• Division 3 = three games to be rearranged
• Division 4 = five games to be rearranged
• Division 5 = three games to be rearranged
• Division 6 = two games to be rearranged
• Division 7 = six games to be rearranged
• Division 8 = five games to be rearranged
• Division 9 = three games to be rearranged
Fixtures can be rearranged for and on the following dates:
• Saturday 12 April or Saturday 20 September
• any Sunday between 20 April and 21 September (inclusive)
• Monday 5 May, 26 May or 25 August
Fixtures should be played within a reasonable time frame of the originally scheduled fixture, ideally within a period of three weeks before or three weeks after. This is to ensure that clubs do not have a significant number of games in hand at any point during the season.
As in the fixture planning email, the home club should agree a date with the away club and confirm this in an email to competitions.manager@ycspl.co.uk no later than midday on Tuesday 24 December 2024. Any fixture remaining outstanding at this point, will be arranged by the League with a fixed date which will not be allowed to be changed - it is in your interests to be flexible and accommodating! Thank you in anticipation for your co-operation.
Annual General meeting – for information
The 2024 AGM took place on Wednesday 13 November at Shaw Lane Sports Club, Barnsley. The notes of the meeting will be published on the website next week, but the key issues decided were:
the changes to the constitution, to align with the Code of Sports Governance and to incorporate the Women’s & Girls League into the YCSPL, were passed unanimously
the changes to the playing conditions for Division 3-9 to remove cut-off times; allow for the reduction of overs after the start; and to decide games on the count-back rule were passed
the changes to losing bowling bonus points, whereby one more wicket would be required for each point, were passed
a reduction of points to two in games where no play could take place was rejected
all cup-ties will start at 12.30pm, except where a delayed start by up to one hour is notified by the home club to accommodate a women’s, girls’ or junior game on the ground
revised player eligibility rules for cup-ties were agreed
clubs across the League voted overwhelmingly that the provision of teas should remain mandatory for all league and cup games
Roger Pugh is the new League chairman and the League Executive Board will consist of Chris Froggett, Andy Harrison and himself from the Premier Section; Jonathan Crabtree, Richard North and Matt Summerhill from the Senior Section; Liz Harris, Mel Mahmood and Sarah Woods from the Women’s & Girls’ League; and Lindsay Pepper as the League Safeguarding Manager. Gareth Davis will represent the YCB in a non-executive capacity, and there will continue to be an Equity & Diversity representative on the same basis.
Neil Vaughan is the new umpires’ representative on the Premier Section committee; Richard North is now Head of Senior Section and Jonathan Crabtree has joined the Senior Section committee
Richard Storer and David Ward were confirmed as Life Members of the League
Cup draws 2025 – for information
The 2025 YCSPL cup draws took place after the AGM, and are now published on the website. The K3 Dental cup draw will be done next month.
League subscriptions – for information
Annual Subscription invoices will not be sent out until January or February once details received from YCB of the Fees for 2025.
League presentation dinner & awards night – for information
Daniel Bamforth (Higham), Roger Fairhurst (Oughtibridge War Memorial), Nick Gaywood (Sheffield Collegiate), Malc Shaw (Aston Hall) and Andrew Tipple (Wakefield Thornes) were inducted to the League Hall of Fame
Our thanks go to Alex Fletcher, our excellent host, Lindsay Pepper and Linzey Scothern for all their work in organising the event; to Kirsty Pugh and Terry Bateman for their help on the night; and to Alison Gresser and Andrew Payling for organising the raffle
John Hobson recorded all the presentations, and his photographs are now on the website – if anyone would like an HD file of any of the photos, please email Roger Pugh quoting the numbers of the requested photos
Invoices for dinner payments have now been sent to clubs’ Play-Cricket action folders. Due to the extra tickets requested by some clubs, the minimum number of places to be charged to each club has been reduced by 50% as follows: Premier to Division 2 – three places; Division 3 to Division 6 – two; Division 7 to Division 9 – one.
Safeguarding courses – for information
The programme of Safeguarding courses is now available and we encourage club officials to book places as soon as possible –
Umpire recruitment – final reminder of action required
In the last bulletin, we reminded clubs to provide information about club activity undertaken:
how many new or potential new umpires have been recruited by your club
what activity has been undertaken to recruit (for example, former players and others approached, advertising/Social Media activity, and any other activity undertaken)
any feedback from those approached who do not want to umpire (reasons given, etc)
The deadline for information to be submitted was the end of October, but very few returns have been received. We will shortly be assessing what clubs have done, in connection with deciding on levies to be paid, and if there has been no return, we will assume that no activity has been undertaken. Please provide this information to Roger Pugh by the extended deadline of 22 November.
Umpiring courses – for information
There is a programme of introductory courses for umpires who have not been on an umpiring course. Experienced umpires should not book these sessions.
