Ground information - Ample car parking on the ground; refeshments and toilet facilities available.
About us - Ackworth were founder members of the Pontefract & District Cricket League in 1928. After being Pontefract & District champions on five occasions, the last in 2010, the ambitious club decided move into the YCSPL for the 2022 season. There have been many ‘up and downs’ during the club’s 130-plus years’ history, and during World War II, Ackworth CC was kept alive only by its’ ladies’ team that functioned after the men’s teams had been forced to cease playing.
A number of well-known players have been produced by the club. Peter Hepworth started out at Ackworth before moving on to Leicestershire; Graeme Stevenson also came through the club’s juniors before embarking on a successful career with Yorkshire; and Sir Geoffrey Boycott first played in men’s cricket at the rear of the Boot & Shoe pub on Wakefield Road.
Two Saturday teams compete in the YCSPL and there is a third XI that plays on Sundays. Club stalwart Jono Gillespie leads the thriving junior set up, which boasts sides at all levels from under-nines to under-17s, to which the girls’ team will be added this season. The ground has developed over the years, and invariably attracts healthy crowds. Improvements over recent years include a new scoreboard and scorers’ hut, and a three-bay net facility; and in 2023 the club became trailblazers in our League by installing three hybrid pitches.

The wicket and outfield have been much improved over the last few years, thanks to the excellent work of groundsman Peter Fell, comparing favourably with any in the area, and the ground has tremendous potential for future development.
One senior team competes in the YCSPL; a mid-week team in the Doncaster Evening League; and a Sunday team in the Barnsley League. Junior cricket is thriving in the club thanks to the enthusiastic support of our parents and team managers. We have teams at U9, U11 & U13, U15 & U17 age group levels.
Famous former players include Johnny Wardle, the ex-England spin bowler, and the club has consistently produced a steady supply of young cricketers to the Yorkshire schoolboy and representative teams in recent years.

Website - www.cleethorpescricketclub.com
Ground information - Ample car parking and seating; clubhouse with bar and refreshments; disabled access and toilets; baby-changing facilities; dogs must be kept on a lead at all times.
About us - The exact date of formation of the club is unknown, but it is believed the club was formed by the 1870s. Two other grounds were used before Chichester Road was opened in June 1931 with a fixture against Scunthorpe CC in the Grimsby and District League. The development of the town in the 1950s prompted expansion, and the club purchased eight acres of land to preserve its future, as housing estates sprang up around the ground.
The outfield was expanded and levelled and a new square sown in 1959, and in 1963 the dilapidated old wooden pavilion, with its tiny changing rooms was replaced by a new building. Ground improvements have continued, and over recent years include an all-weather pitch, four net bays, updated sightscreens and covers, further pavilion improvements and a new equipment store.
In 1968, Lincolnshire played on the ground for the first time, and in August 1970, the International Cavaliers played at Chichester Road in front of 3,000 spectators. A extension to the lounge and bar and new dressing rooms in 1971 were rewarded with a Nottinghamshire one-day game in 1972. 1978 saw two squash courts opened, resulting in 200 new members. In 1980, Cleethorpes hosted first class cricket for the first time when Nottinghamshire played Worcestershire. Further county games followed, and Lincolnshire still use the ground regularly.
By the late 1950s, Cleethorpes had become a formidable side due to the development of some excellent local talent, including Martin Maslin, one finest cricketers never to play at first class level. After winning the Lincolnshire League eleven times, and beating York and Bradford in the 1981 John Haig trophy, the club entered the Yorkshire League in 1984. In 2003, the Yorkshire League championship was secured with a memorable last day win at Driffield.
The club were founder members of the YSPL in 2016, but were relegated at the end of 2019. After the loss of the league programme in 2020, Cleethorpes were promoted as the first YCSPL Championship winners in 2021. They then won the Premier Division championship in 2024 and retained it in 2025.
